I hate 8, only cool thing was the summon animations. But those were usually ruined because you had to concentrate on boosting.

You had to stare at the boost indicator so you could see when it started flashing and stop mashing the button.
OMG! I'm so calling it that from now on.Originally Posted by Xavier

I agree, and don't see why they didn't.Originally Posted by Charla
Combat models would've been nice, but the graphics they used were probably because they were just getting used to 3D models on the PS. I mean, it didn't take them long to figure out how to up the graphics did it?Originally Posted by Ichikun
FF7 is a great game, just like the six before it and the five after it.
In my mind, it was either because they weren't familiar enough with the Playstation hardware, or because they were trying to ease the transition from FF6 to the new generation of FF games. Maintained somewhat deformed characters during exploration, but had normal models during battle. And then I view FF8 as that transition being complete.Originally Posted by Elcura
I thought the sprites in 6 were exactly the same degree of SD in both modes. And Chezo, don't forget FFT in that list. Are you counting X-2 or XI? I guess Revenant Wings shouldn't count simply because we can't tell if it's good or not yet.

A lot of why some people say it was amazingly good is because it really was amazing ten years ago, when it came out. I remember the first time I played it and it was just like "HOLY SHIT" because back then I didn't know of any other game that even came close to that.
If you're playing it for the first time right now, you're definitely not going to have the same experience, especially after playing games like FFXII. Seven is still a solid game though, even if by today's standards its nowhere as great as it used to be, it's still very much a game worth playing
Square couldn't wait for FF8 era because they are partly the reason there was a FF8 era. They had to experiment with these kinds of things to know what to do and what not to do. You have to remember this was 10 years ago, that may not seem like a long time, but in technology age that is forever and a half. Without the poly-tastic FF7 you would have had the 8 that lead to 9, to 10, and so on.Originally Posted by MisterBob
Edit: Ok so I had this question in my head since I played FF10, it seemed like a normal stupid idea that I would think of while bored, but it has stuck with me for quite some time. Anyways, I have always wondered Why are all the main characters in FF games white? Is it marketing? I mean I know there is a study (The Wire extras) that most whiteys get uncomfortable when they see a lot of colored people on shows. Not that it really matters, but it was always just some question I had.
You're forgetting that SE is a Japanese company... they're not white, they're meant to be asians.![]()
Plus, most of these characters were designed by Nomura, which is why 90% of them are blonde (he seems to be infatuated with blondes..)
I know they're japanese, thats why it struck me as odd that they would always have whitey save the day. Maybe its just me but they all look white, like not dyed blonde just real blonde. WhatevsOriginally Posted by Exoduso
FF blondes (playable characters onry):
4
Cecil (in the sprites it's purple, in Amano's art it's more white)
Rosa
5
Cururu/Cara/Krile
6
Celes
Uh, Strago? Lololdpeople
Sabin
Relm
Terra (included because it's white in Amano's art again, but her hair will always be green to me dammit!)
Setzer (white again)
Edgar? I don't remember too well
7
Cloud, duh
8
Zell
Quistis
9
Zidane
Um, Freya?
10
Tidus
Rikku
I guess we have to count Khimari too...
12
Vaan (more platinum in cutscenes, but it's yellow ingame anyway)
Basch
Fran
Balthier I think.
So gran total of 22 characters in 8 games, not counting X-2 as separate of course, and not counting 1, 2, 3, tactics, tactics advance or 11. Mostly because they either don't have fixed playable characters or I haven't played them. And about... 7 of those are either white-haired, blonde only according to Amano, or demihuman. In the end, white hair is pretty popular too, for several reasons.
Therefore I conclude that we just tend to think of FF heroes as being blonde because of Cloud, Zidane and Tidus. Which is understandable because those three games were probably the most famous in various ways.
I don't see why you included white haired people or beastmen in that list at all. They aren't blonde, so why are they there?
