Um, Nomura likes blondes? He made like all those characters. Doesn't mean SE is racist.

I think that's what I was saying. And more importantly it isn't even that many blondes. I included the platinum/white part of the spectrum just for consistency, because it's sometimes called platinum blonde. I didn't expect so many characters to have white hair when I started listing them.
I think those just now playing FFVII for the first time will never get as much out of it as everyone else did of the time. It is a great story line with some hella fun boss fights, but part of the "HOLY CRAP" was the experience of playing/seeing something that was leaps and bounds ahead of anything we had ever seen. I went from playing mario brothers with 2 d mushrooms to a 3d battle environment with beautiful cinematics and awesome storyline. Its like watching the matric for the first time today: "ya, thats a cool movie, but whats the fuss". While 10 years ago it was the most amazing thing (special effects wise) anyone had seen before.
Story Line: 10
Character development: 10
Graphics: for the time - 10
Battle System: 10
Its ruined by alot of fanboys, but its still one of the more well rounded and fun FF games.
Though I would say FF12 wins for me at the moment for its equally enjoyable story, characters, battle system, and beauty(love how ff12 looks).
FF12's story sucked up until Pharos, what are you talking about..
I would disagree. The only thing "sucky" about ff12 story was it shorter then it should have been.Originally Posted by Exoduso

All in all I wasn't impressed with 12's story at all, even though the idea was pretty good. You're right though, it was way too short for its own good.. I know that I personally was expecting a lot more. There are parts of the game where it takes you like 2 hours to clear everything in a dungeon (treasure wise, and storywise), only to have a 2 minute cutscene and then pushed right into another 1-2 hour dungeon/area... it was very frustrating at times.

But I guess thats the sign of the a good game "nooooo its over!!!"
Character development? in FF12? really now...
I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the char development in the game, felt like the characters weren't developing into shit but bascially staying the same way throughout the entire course of the gameplay (even though Vaan kind of stopped being a retarded douche as the story progressed but that was about it other than the Balthier/Cid storyline..)
And they made the final boss way too obvious about an hour into the game when Vayne showed up in Rabanastre..
The hatred/acceptance/struggle of (god i dont remember any of the names) the "traitor" knight as his struggle to regain his name and fight his brother?Originally Posted by Exoduso

The evolution of a brother, whom must fight along side the supposed murderer of his brother?
The awesome development of balthiar and cat woman (its been a while >.>).
The good dual sided development of most of the characters "not pure evil, but not pure good".
Im not really sure where your getting this "bad character development and story line". Did you finish the game? Or play any other FF game?
Compared to any of the PSX FFs (and I mention them over the SNES ones since they were more heavy in story..) and FFX, 12's story was pretty dull and didn't have nearly enough depth..
You are correct though with those points, but half those characters didn't develop anywhere. (and the judge is "JUDGE MAGISTAH GABRANTH"... god I love his accent..)
I only beat the game once though, maybe I should give it another shot and then judge it better.
BTW, can anyone explain to me the cities/countries in FF12? I still have a hard time connecting the dots (Nabradia, Landis, Nabuis, and Nalbina mainly..)

It didnt really get into much detail about the southern Nation that was at war with the Empire, just that poor little Vaan's country was stuck inbetween (both geographically and politically since they possessed one of the dawn shards).
Edit: just remembered balthier was cid's son and a judge......... which increases my disagreement on just how good the character development was in this game. Ya it wasnt "one character focused" like other FF games, but each of the characters were -very- strongly built upon and very well rounded.
Yeah like I mentioned, I liked the storyline with Cid a lot (especially the way it played out in Pharos... evil cid > good cids..)
The real question is when did it become cool to jump on the "well i liked ff7 but not as much as thoz fanboiz" wagon? Couple years ago everyone was all up on ff7s nuts like none other. Have the games really gotten that much better or has it become cool to claim ff7 was "good" or "alright?"
I played FF8 as my first FF, and compared to FF8 FF7 looks like shit, plays like shit, and the storyline isn't all that amazing IMO... so sure, I wasn't there for when it was revolutionary, just like someone playing Deadrising in 10 years will say it looks like crap, but I still don't see what all the hype is.
And it's nothing about jumping on any bandwagon, it's my personal opinion of the game and the last time I checked i'm still entitled to it.
Yeah im not saying you or anyone in particular arent entitled or anything, i just noticed that nowadays that train of thought is extremely popular, whereas when i joined these boards in 04, i remember more people worshipping ff7, or at least talking about how great it was, and i am genuinely curious as to why it changed. My theory, and this isnt talking bad about you because you have a legit reason, is that it became cooler to call people fanboys for liking ff7 than agreeing with them.Originally Posted by Exoduso
I completely agree that it seems like more people like to be on the other side now (especially people who praised the fucking game in the first place, go figure..)
I personally don't see what all the fuss is about, other than the fact that if you played it as your first 3D FF (and right after FF6), the experience as a whole would just put you in a state of amazement, which would then cause that certain person to put that game on the highest pedestal ever and claim that it is the best thing since sliced bread.
To be perfectly honest with you, I don't even see why people adore Sephiorth so much over characters like Kuja... I find Kuja to be a much better character than Sephiroth (who seems a bit too emo in the game, wouldn't you say??), hell even Seymour is more entertaining because they're actually funny/sadistic, where Sephiroth is just stupid.
Still hella fun fighting him in KH1/2 though, no doubt, so i'm not complaining (and the music is awesome too, I just wish they actually gave other villians their own music as well besides Sephy and Gilgamesh..)
*spoilers!* (lol)
FFs in which a playable character dies halfway through the game:
5
7
Americans didn't play 5 unless they imported, emulated, or waited another few years for the ps1 remake. I rest my case
.../sarcasm
edit: I'm pretty sure Kuja and Seymour had their own theme too, it just isn't as recognizable for various reasons. Also, in Gilgamesh's first appearance in FF5 I don't think it was *his* music so much as the big bridge run's music.
Well, they used the same music again in FF12 (orchestrated, but still..), so i'm assuming people refer to it as Gilgamesh's theme now.![]()
Nah, it's normal. My favourite was FF8, I tried to play it for the shits and it was unbearable.
Edit: holy shit, I just felt an earthquake @ 1 am <_<
/runs under the table!
I think the reason ppl get mad at the FFVII "fanboys" is because they ignore all the other FF games that came out after it (often w/o even playing them) and say it was the greatest FF game ever. To be honest, they're all great games for different reasons, I loved the GF system in FF8, but hated the way that the story rushed at the end (was an awesome story before that), FF9 was great as was FFX and (to an extent) FFX-2. Most FFVII "fanboys" dismiss them quickly.
