Well I've been on the fence about taking up a second character, I guess the limit quest nerf must be some kind of sign...
And hey, maybe I can convince my friends to try Einherjar again. It'll be tough though considering how much everyone hated it beforehand![]()
That'd make the game interesting again. Pretty sure you could still kill most RoZ and CoP HNMs with a couple alliances of lvl60s. 8)Originally Posted by Xavier
This game should have been capped at 60 with insane amount of merits from then on. With Group IV and stuff job abilities to be gained.
if you're sending that (?) to them, theres an error about the key items regarding AC recovery
change "discount" to disconnect![]()

I used to kill three of the mirrors in Halvung on a regular basis pre-Mirror Guards all over the place. That was some easy IS back when IS coins were worth something.
Level 60 would kind of break more or less all of the popular tanking job combos. Back to Aerial Armor rotations on PLDs or something I guess?Originally Posted by Sci

Is "Aerial Armor rotations" some sort of fancy phrase for "Everyone quits for WoW"?Originally Posted by evilpaul

Merits are the true enemy of endgame and gear progression as implemented. They're the last thing you want more of if you want a challenging and progressing endgame. It just so happens that FFXI's endgame is mostly about merits though. Which kills gear progression, otherwise merits would be too easy to come by. If they didn't have merits, they could easily release insane gear that trumps all old gear, and then add insane HNMs that you need that gear for.Originally Posted by BRP
The result is that endgame merely exists to obtain items to speed up merit acquisition and to speed up farming the same HNMs. It would be far more interesting if Serket dropped an armor piece that gave PLDs enhanced Sentinel and Rampart which let them tank Tiamat, which dropped a RDM piece that unlocked a powerful Phalanx II spell, which let their group fight Gurfurlur that dropped some other widget.
I'm not saying any of this will ever happen because it won't. It's waaaaaaaay too late for that, and SE decided on a different path that isn't gear progression. At the very least if you wanted a system with Group X meritable abilities, you should require a HNM drop that you have to trade to Maat or your moogle or an ebon panel, and the required merit points to unlock it. Now that's something I could sink my teeth into.
Super hard Genkei quests to unlock the next tier of merits! And really, what I meant with merits is just to be able to grab level 75 power level again.
Do you guys think they will release an end game area with this update?
I wonder if this will also include using your points to warp between countries like they mentioned back in this interview.Originally Posted by sleekmotorwurkz
AU has flown in the face of every FFXI expansion so far and done it's own new and different things. I don't expect to see a zone the likes of Sky/Sea where you farm items to spawn HNM. Just like there won't be a "dynamis-whitegate" either. Remnants, HTZ, and Nyzul are probably the closest relatives to endgame zones AU will offer. And really, I think it's for the best.Originally Posted by Seraphise

No. I don't think they will at all.Originally Posted by Seraphise
The first update for sea came out and went through 8-1. You could beat the Aern NMs at the three towers, and enter the Grand Palace of Hu'xoi, but you couldn't go anywhere once inside. The next update gave you 8-2 and 8-3. It was a third update that gave you 8-4. Part of me wants to say that the pot BC at the end of 8-3 was a mini-update or otherwise came out separately from 8-4. The Jailer NM's didn't show up until another update after that. Limbus might have another update after that (perhaps simultaneously with jailers). The metal chip areas of Limbus were another update after that. Apocalypse Nigh and Bahamut v2 were after that, maybe? So at least 3 (maybe 4) updates for missions, and a handful more after that. This was all in the time between the unlocking of sea and the release of ToAU.Originally Posted by Fayttt
Bahamut v2 was added with Diabolos/Bahamut v1/Dyna-Val/Bubu/Qufim (Dec. 2005). AN was added with Waking the Beast/Dyna-Tav (Feb. 2006/final CoP update before ToA). Limbus/Fellowship were Oct. 2005 I think, and I'm tempted to say Jailers were added in a July/August-ish update.Originally Posted by Byrd

Seriously, tiered progression is another word for epic cockblock.
Though I wouldn't mind seeing some of those stuff on assault/salvage, but the only thing that comes close to that is...merrow 13 locket on Lamia 13.
I support a change in Besieged for people who are dead when the swarm retreats still recieve their XP in addition to their Imperial Standing. Nothing makes a person more bitter towards then working for an hour+ to get slapped in their face and penalized for dying for their Astral Candesence, only because Mamool Ja Sapper decided to Mijin Gakure 1 millisecond before Warping.
