gurren lagann 4's really fucked, btw, they had a different art director for one episode and..it's horrible. once it gets past that hurdle it gets really good. it's also not really a funny anime, it's mecha >_> if you're bored watch nanoha/nanoha A's, just don't write it off from the first four episodes because they're completely different from the rest of the show.

    Re: Anime Suggestions?

mostly everything was said, but I didn't see Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. It's so fucking funny, beautiful art, animation and direction.

If you like School Rumble (another one I'd recommend watching, kinda slow but amazing once you know the characters) you'll like that.

    Other ones...

Azumanga Daioh! - Awesome anime, funny and crazy as hell.
Excel Saga - Like the above but WAY crazier.
Magical Girl Nanoha (and A's) - For a magic girl anime, it's amazingly good, first 6 or so episodes are pretty basic and typical but after that it just fucking blows up and becomes amazing. A's is like the first series, except better action, more characters and a better story. StrikerS is currently airing as well, but isn't as good from the 10 episodes I've seen of it.
Shinigami no Ballad - Nice short 6 episode anime. Touching and pretty sad. It's a good watch.
Ichigo Mashimaro - Would have to say it's funnier then Azumanga and Excel Saga, awesome characters, great style and sooooo funny. Matsuri-chan is the cutest thing on this planet.
Manabi Straight - Good anime, heartwarming and funny as hell. Awesome art and animation as well. Watch it if you like Ichigo, Azumanga etc.
Nodame Cantibile - Music comedy/drama. Great music and humour, compelling stuff.
Gunslinger Girl - Short drama (13eps) about mechanical girls (not those kind of mecha girls) and how hard their lives are. Great sound, music and animation. Highly recommended.
Haibane Renmei - Another short drama, if you like Gunslinger Girl you'll like this. Great Story and drama. So touching and sad at point. Slice of life anime kind of.
Higurashi No Naki Koro Ni - Horror/mystery/suspension/comedy(kind of) anime. Art isn't that great but the animation and some of the stuff that goes on in it are amazing. Story is great although a little confusing, second season is currently airing which explains quite a bit. It kinda reminds me of Lost on a much smaller scale...
Honey and Clover - Slice of life drama. Unlike most school drama/slice of life anime this one takes place at an art college, so it's pretty interesting. Great characters and story.

Oh man, can't believe there were so many...I could probably list more but I'm tired.

    Oh, and for manga, read:

    Claymore - For sure
    Berserk - Legendary
    Yotsuba&! - Funniest manga I've read.
Slam Dunk - One of the best sports manga I've read. Final match still sends shivers down my spine because it's so awesome.
Angel Densetsu - Funny high school manga about delinquents. And a boy who has the face of a devil but the heart of an angel, which (despite his best intentions and lack of actual fighting) lead to him being the head of the delinquents, or high school guardian. Funny as hell and decent action. First manga from the guy who did Claymore. Art is pretty bad at the start, but as you go on you see a dramatic improvement and it looks more and more like Claymore does at the start.
Battle Royal - You should know what this is about. Manga is better then the movie for sure.
Mirai Nekki - Think of it like a mix between Death Note and Battle Royal.
Kiseijuu/Parasyte - Great manga about an infestation of brain eating parasites (yes, really). The main character got infected but stopped the parasite from getting to his brain, so the parasite matured in his arm. So his right hand warps and mutates and speaks to him. Awesome stuff.

Most of StrikerS is mostly boring, except 2 of them which were fucking awesome (the one when Nanoha went nuts on Teana, and the one when Section 6 gets destroyed). It was such a letdown after A's, which was pretty much perfect as an action anime...

You should watch Code Geass... It's a fun roller coaster ride with great adrenaline rush from beginning to the end.

Code Geass is great, but all the cliffhangers are killing me. 23 > 24 and then 25. Why does it hate me so?

Even more annoying is it looked like they took so damn long to air the final two episodes just so they could add the "the second season is going well" w/e message at the end. What a jackass move.

I'm debating on whether or not it should scare me that I've seen all but two of the anime suggested in this thread...

    Vampire Hunter D / D Bloodlust
Sweet movies, the first is a really old looking animation, where as Bloodlust, the sequel sort of, is more modern looking.

    Blue Submarine #6
Pretty old one, but the animation in it is wicked. Short series, only 4 episodes, but very sweet and I highly recommend it.

    Ghost in the Shell
This is Movie and a series. The movie is very awesome, you'll like it alot. The series is a different type of animation, but its long and very good the whole way through it. Probably recommend this one the most out of what I listed D:

You can't destroy Ichigo Mashimaro, it's way too good. If watching/reading it makes me a pedo then SO BE IT!

I'm waiting to see nanoha owning those ppl...

    adding:

    1. Darker than black - this one quite good, each 2 episodes consist of a story, so you can wait for every 2 week to watch them at once.

    2. Devil may cry - not bad, suprisingly it is better than expected. I was expected it will be a lame story when porting from games.

    3. Gintama - its kinds of taking all the jokes from JUMP magazines, most of the times are kinds of comedy. But sometimes will follow some long story plot.

    4. sumomo

    5. zetubou sensei - this should be the one of the greatest sinban anime in july.

I never (almost never) write off a series before the end of the first season. Too many got better midway, or near the end. In the rare case the anime sucked for 24episodes, I just log on FFXI and check my playtime. Make those 4 hours wasted insignificant.

I guess I was just expecting something else for GL, based on the post I read. I don't mind mecha anime at all, but it was too cartoony, without the joke I was expecting. Either way, watching ep 4+ today, so my opinion will probably change.

I agree, anime/manga are really really bad. And I'm pretty sure there was a volume where it was pure crying. Chobits is ugh, decent at the start, then tries to get all deep and meaningful but ends up failing.

I didn't mention KGNE because I didn't think it was THAT good, or worth mentioning as things to really watch. That also goes for all harem anime/manga. They all suck so badly.

I didn't think SEED was that bad. But Destiny... I watched that to the end hoping and praying Shin(was that the idiot's name?) would die horribly before the end. But jesus, the ending was even worse than I imagined it would be.
