At this point, 70 or 80 would work, because on average I don't think anyone needs to bring more than 3 items for any given slot (16 x3 = 48) to be the best they can be. Couple this with items that everyone should always have (Antidotes, Echo Drops for magic users, Silent Oils, Prism Powders, Food, etc), Ammo or Ninja Tools if applicable, or the extra strain of staves for mages, and you have a good 60-65 spaces being used. Everyone needs buffer space, for anything they do, because it's always a bummer to miss out on that Kindred's Seal, or it sucks when you have to choose something to toss (such as a stack of oils) in order to receive [xx] rare/ex item that you had no idea you were gonna get, but did anyway on a whim.

80 slots would make me happy.

If it's truly not possible to increase inventory space within the PS2 restraints, item consolidation (adding the stats of several items to create a new item) would be an alternative. Let owners of all 8 elemental obis turn them in to receive a Rainbow Obi that works like a Sorcerer's Tonban. Let us merge an elemental, enhancing and dark torque into a merciful torque and an enfeebling, divine and healing torque into an altruistic torque, and analogously for the Lv 35 earrings. Those are all "non-synergistic" combinations; the merged item would perform for each spell exactly as the applicable ingredient item would have, so there would be no serious balance issues. This change could save magic users up to 11 inventory spaces.
That makes too much sense or would be too useful for SE to actually implement it, they are busy making things like brenner and chocobo racing/raising. oh, and cant forget the fact that 70% of all armor is obsolete at 75, others suck at all levels.

Anywho, me being a BLM i could appreciate the obi idea, i usually go out with <5 open slots as it is now, i'm sure other BLMs have it worse since i dont have all my gear yet.

Also what do PS2 limitations have to do with anything besides graphics? (or was this a sarcastic comment i didnt get >.>?)

Well, the dominance of key pieces of Ground gear, the difficulty in getting them, etc, is why we don't see level raises, or gear that has really obsoleted it.

If you can't just say "ok, here's a synthed item that will flood the market soon and it has stats like an Armada Berk+1" then find some way to reward the people who have the original gear with better versions, and then release other pieces that are in between the original Adaberk and the new stuff.

Just an idea of a way to do it.

As for the storage, that is a damn good idea, why should all the gear I'm wearing take up inventory slots still, give that man the internets!

I think PS2 limitation is the reason that SE gives for why inventory space cannot be increased beyond 60. I don't have a reference handy right now.

We know that the FFXI client can hold 60+80 = 140 items simultaneously in memory, while you're in your MH. 80 items in your safe, locker or storage and 60 in your inventory.

I would speculate that this 140 is the hard limit imposed by the PS2, not the 60. So they could probably increase our inventory to 100, but then each MH related storage unit would be limited to 40. So instead of having a safe of 80, a locker of 80 and a storage of 80, we would have Mog Safe #1 with 40 items, Mog Safe #2 with 40 items, Mog Locker #1 with 40 items, Mog Locker #2 with 40 items, Storage #1 with 40, Storage #2 with 40. So there would be 6 storage units in the mog house menu instead of the current 3, and every time you access one of them, those 40 items would have to be loaded from the server, so that the total amount of items stored in memory does not exceed 140.

It would be a pain in the ass to use but if I could get an inventory of 100 items in return, I'd take it.

Another reason FFXI is better than WoW. The day SE raises the level cap and makes all my gear obsolete (I mean completely like WoW did) is the day I quit. Keep the level cap at 75, but for the love of god, make some better gear than Zilart gear! If I were as hardcore a WoW player as FFXI player, I would be pissed.

Not necessarily true. How long has Everquest been out and they keep raising the level cap? Theoretically you could simply create progressive game play until the end of time.

But has EQ done what WoW did with raising the level cap, Tekki: making this epic gear completely obselete by dropping comparable (and better) gear from Outland mobs the day the expansion opened? I think I would be a bit annoyed with my game too if an item I worked very hard for suddenly became junk.

yeah, 32MB of ram, so they'd have to mess around with other stuff to make room for more than 140 items (like reducing textures displayed etc etc.)

giving us access to the temporary item space that's only available in the field would probably work too. (and would likely be how they implement the 'I'm wearing this now' feature others have suggested) giving us 40 slots in 'temp item' land would let everyone offload certain 'always on me' tools/meds/foods/ammo etc.

you wouldn't be able to access the temp item space while viewing your moghouse/safe/storage but I'd take that (basically a moglocker that you can access in the field.)

I know very very little about EQ but I read a blurb about their AAs which essentially seem to be the same as our merits. So they have both merits and have been upping the cap?

Re: Warcraft raising level cap to 80 (FFXI related, I swear)

WoW is great during lvl 60 cap, where the greatest is during lvling till lvl 60. And the pvp stuff actually quite fit to me where I can queue for BG while camping NMs and etc.

but yea, fortunately I quit after played for 5months or so. Now what I'm heard from most of ppl are the MC, BWL and also those old days 5-15ppl instances are kinda dead right now.

about the equipment, I don't think even SE introduce some equal par or alternative equipment, like a new kind of ridill 2-3times attack but is D40, some equivalent ebody equip, there will be less ppl camping fafnir. Indeed, both old and new hnm still will be new heavy camped and still the same ls and same ppl will wish to obtain both weapons, and equip. Maybe SE has been expected kind of these things and they just dont want it to be happen?

Yes, yes it did. Every expansion would make the previous expansion's armor junk. I played EQ for ages until I quit for ff11 and every expansion you'd keep a few key items (mainly click effect items you could use from inventory) while your armor and weapons would get completely revamped if you were at the top of endgame. Almost every expansion raised the level or put alternative advancement in (same as merits, just there were more of them, and you weren't limited to anything)

They also started then putting in enchantments to armor (cant remember the name, was in lost dungeons of norrath where you embed some special item into your armor to make it give more stats, or your weapon would get more base damage or a proc or some shit)

I could have swore LDoN dealt more with gem-fitting than enchanting.

Otherwise, yeah, Slott is pretty much dead on with how EQ played out. For the longest time level cap was 65 until Omens of War. Now it's approaching 80.

Seeing that cycle of pain before me is what pushed me into FFXI in the first place. Epic cockblock, indeed. No thank you. Besides, mentioning EQ in that sense is twice the pain- because they keep adding AA's (EQ Merits) too.

EQ not only does more levels but renders old level-appropriate gear into trash loot. It'd be like abjuration gear becoming cheap candy you farm with a couple of people to gear up your twink alt, cause it's useless otherwise. And CoP gear becoming junk the second you could walk into ToAU from the stuff you could grab slapping merit/xp mobs around.

At least in FFXI, there are still pieces from old expansion that continue to be some of the best items for various jobs (ie. Iqguira gear, abjuration gear, many weapons, etc). Personally, I think FFXI has done OK with gear selection over the three expansions but there is some room for improvement (how about a Refresh cape/necklace/ring/earring for mages?).

    Relic E.Body. Lol

Raising the cap is a lot of work for programers. When WoW 1st raised the cap, an entire new set of armour was released. It made all the old stuff obselete. As much as I love to get merits, grinding XP over and over on the same job gets boring really quickly. I honestly don't see SE raising the cap.

EXP on 75 WHM is so fkn boring as is, it would really suck if SE raised the level cap, i dont think they have any plans to, i mean its been 75 since late03? or was it early 04.. and i also agree, although SE makes some bad decisions i dont think they would make all armor obsolete in an instant. stuff that the sky and sea mega bosses drops is 75, newish salvage armor is also 75, etc etc.

They already have a system for what happens to EXP after 75, what would happen to merits if they raised the cap? would currently uncapped battlefields become capped, because more levels would make them easier, plus they would need to add a fuck-ton of harder mobs, because if you are pushing 80(or higher), spamming puks just wont cut it.

And a net loss of the time to get your cluster and beat Haku. Of course it's a ton easier now but for people who did it back in the day it was hours and hours of effort. Say nothing of even rarer items from land kings/sky/sea.

I think most of the "raise the level cap, put in new more powerful items" talk is from a small minority of people who have, like, everything in the game. There are still plenty of us out there who don't have all the gear we could ever want, unlike many people on this message board.

Re: Warcraft raising level cap to 80 (FFXI related, I swear)

Raising the level cap of FFXI sounds absolutely dreadful and WoW's method of doing so is so extremely poorly done in my opinion. It sounds so dumb it makes me happy I don't play it.

Gear obsoleting gear, content obsoleting content... I'm no fan of it. I have very little problem of people being able to upgrade their gear, but being able to skip entire steps doesn't make it upgrading.

In terms Pather(panzer) Mask vs Walahra Turban... well, yes it's a lot better, but I think this has more to do with CHR, Resist Paralyze, and Lizard Killer being so poorly used in FFXI. If this had situational uses: perhaps Lizard Killer being much more effective against lizard opponents, more uses of CHR for jobs outside BST, and perhaps even Resist Paralyze playing a very useful role, Panther Mask will at least be appreciated in those situations.
