Instead of being insecure about your ability to put a PT together, realize that everyone has been in the retarded pickup party, and they just want some clarification. Since when is being informed a bad thing?
Only people allowed to ask what the party setup is are RDM and BRD. That's like, Partying 101.
I know (read: hope) youre being sarcastic Venture. But I have a habit of 2nd guessing every decision a party leader makes (including where were going, what level/jobs are being added, what theyre subbing). Its all relevent to what items/gear I need to bring with me and what sub Ill probably need to use.
Having played FFXI for so long, I have seen so much complete incompetance from players and have built a zero tolerance policy against it. Id end up disbanding or losing interest in playing for that moment if I got into a party that didnt fit my own standards on what I think a party should be. I have a huge distrust for other players in general, but too lazy to make my own party.
Seeking doesnt mean Im begging for a party, by the way. Fuck Yutu for having that state of mind. ;3
(Im in a bad mood right now)
If I have never met you, don't know anyone who knows you, and generally have no clue as to what kind of player you are, you are damn right I'm going to ask what the setup isOriginally Posted by Yutuyu
And I would encourage you to do the same, because you can't trust anyone off the street to make a good party unless you know them personally.
Last week I got invited to a pt on my SAM. I asked him what the setup was - PLD WHM THF MNK RDM, planning to go to U Room of all places. Its situations like that where I'm glad I ask before joining.
That's the dumbest logic I have ever heard. The ppl who ask what the PT setup is are the ones who, for the most part, are the skilled players! You need to rethink your Pt strategy cause a good melee is invaluable. Would you like to get someone wearing 0 accuracy and meleeing in scorpion Breastplate vs someone with a ton of awesome gear for their job. I mean, lol.Originally Posted by Yutuyu

How strange. The rare times I need to invite a random (unexpected hole in a static group) I invite with info like that in it. Something like:
{Excuse me...} {Party} {Do you need it?} JOB1, JOB2, JOB3, JOB4, JOB5. {Place we're going.}
Keeps confusion to a minimum, the person I'm inviting can decide without needing to ask anything further (usually).
I (almost) always ask this, anyone who responds with something like (Party)? or Why do you ask? gets ignored.
what he said, also anyone whos original request is just "{Party?}" or something equally as dumb gets ignored unless i know themOriginally Posted by Bagel

PS: i dont party very often ._. my xp is currently capped on both my 75 jobs and i havent been in an xp pt in over a month
PPS: i dont have much faith in other people

Nothing drives me more insane than having people stealth-replace themselves every 10 minutes. If I'm not liking the party I usually just give notice I have to go in "x" amount of time. Regardless of whether the party is ending, or if the leader has found a rep, or if joe shmo has his next lvl/limit, I go when my time is up.
Well, how it really works in practice, is that if you're one of the replaceable jobs(Any job but RDM, BRD PLD or NIN) and you ask for further information, it's going to come off as being cocky. A job that might get an invite once every eight hours shouldn't dick around asking for information while the party leader is already three or four people down the invite list waiting on other people to reply. Often times, while you're forming a question about the party, someone else already said yes, and you've lost your spot, or the party leader just ignores your question and leaves you hanging while the party runs off to XP with the people that said yes without any reservations.
Actually, in my experience every person who has ever asked for what job chemistry we have, I've told them, and then accepted them, has been a horrific self-absorbed whiner. After I tell them the setup they usually say something stupid like, "no brd? ... eh, I'm feeling generous, I'll join."
Pre-meriting, when parties are retarded, it's usually because the players are retarded, the level ranges are screwed up, or the camp of choice is stupid. I can't think the last time I got a party which had a genuinely stupid setup which prevented getting good XP from the get go pre-73.
Usually when I invite people I put some formality crap in, then I list the level ranges, where we're going, and close it out with more formality.
I guess ultimately it really depends on how they ask what the setup is. If they do it politely, it doesn't particularly bother me. But like most of the people on this thread sound, if it's a condescending question (which is almost always is) I tell them to go fuck themself.
How do you come off sounding condescending by asking "Whats the PT set up?"
Man I'm glad I'm not on your server. You sir are an idiot. I couldn't imagine how many of your parties ended in 10-12k an hour crap because you only invite the lemmings of the merit pool. I always ask party set up when I'm lfg.Originally Posted by Venture

To Yutuyu:
Stop forming parties without bards and you'll get less complainers.
I would rather spend an hour waiting for a 20k/hr party then spend 3 hours in a 7k an hour party. I usually form my parties, but even then I search for good members, asking their gear, merits, access areas, and how long they plan to play. Its not being elitest to realize the not everyone wants to waste valuable free time getting dick for experience.Originally Posted by Venture
Stop forming parties without bards? Not everyone has a bard attached to them at the hip. Considering they're one of the rarest jobs (and you almost never find one seeking) that advice is completely and utterly unhelpful and stupid.
And it's pretty easy to ask what the setup is condescendingly, I get it a lot. SOmething like, "idk whats the setup?" If someone is polite about it, of course i'm not going to get my panties in a bunch, but when you ask without any sort of politeness, and make it very blunt, I do think ti's rude.
There ARE alot of brds that merit all the time. The problem you have is that you build shitty parties and therefore dont have any bards that will willingly xp with you. I guarantee if you make a reputation for yourself as someone who builds 20-25k an hour pts the bards will make themselves available to you.
If you are inviting more people at one time than party slots you have available, then i dont want in your party.Originally Posted by Yutuyu
Who says parties are retarded pre-meriting? They are only retarded if you invite retards.
Personally i dont see the problem about asking what jobs your going to be spending the next few hours with, if it offends you, then its not the person asking the question's problem.
Also, are you making a tp burn pt with no brd? or just a pt in general? if its the first then they can whine all they want, if its the second, then maybe they just strive to get more xp for their time and not settle for less when they dont have to.
Anyone who goes buy the "Some xp is better than no xp" mentality is a fucking dumb ass(side note: i always thought it was dumbass but the spell check thingy says its dumb ass), because any experienced meriter will tell you that it is not the case. Thats the #1 cause of suicide, bad merit ptys.
I'm not talking about meriting at all. Finding people for merit parties is really easy. Leveling to 75 is a totally different story. You shouldn't be expect to find a bard for a level 60 party...
