Why would anyone do Fafhogg when Abjs fall likechocolaterain from Einherjar!
I didnt read most of this thread since it was bitchy semantics on word meanings, so Im unsure if this had been said. But the fact that gilsellers can kill Faf/Nid show its not a "credible" accomplishment. lol.
Gilsellers have killed practically everything in this game, so what.
So then nothing is "impressive" anymore.Originally Posted by Ryko

There are lots of credible endgame players that have little desire to camp zilart kings and, as such, haven't killed one. Doesn't make them less credible. There's a lot more to endgame than 3 hours in Aery.
Says the monk; no fucking wonder you've never felt the necessity to camp Kings and wouldn't find em an acceptible in-game activity either since you have nothing noteworthy to get off them aside from BB items that could easily be obtained elsewhere.Originally Posted by aurik

I fail to see how job or desirability of one particular drop has any real bearing on the truth of his statement.
fafnir is *one* HNM. seriously.
this is like saying you aren't credible on assaults if you haven't spammed Azure experiments. it's a fraction of a fraction of the overall content.
Ridill, E.body, A.body, N.head, and BB items are the highly desired items (did I miss one? D.feet or something?)...
So WARs, MNKs (who don't KS99), BRDs, and RDMs are pretty much the only ones who get anything from staring at Darters for hours on end. I can't imagine why some people aren't inclined to camp Kings. Doesn't everyone dream of leveling into a Ridill?![]()
a.body isn't even that great anymore, now that morrigan's robe is available.Originally Posted by evilpaul
I can't bot a morrigan's robe tho.
Yes Fafnir is only one HNM but arguably has had more impact on endgame than any other.
Also, when I see screenshots of an LS killing fafnir and a Ridill drops, it usually creates a response from everyone in the shell along the lines of "OMFFFFFFFFFFG RIDILLLLLLL!!!!!". I would like to know if that's the case with every LS.
I certainly respect the views of players who say zilart kings aren't important and hope you feel the same towards those who rate zilart kings very highly.
Not a credible endgame player until you kill Absolute Virtue without the wall.

Good lord. The OP specifically asks for the perspectives of the BG "legends" (laughable nub term to begin with), and then when each of them chimes in with a moderate "Nah, I really don't think Fafnir means shit anymore because we've been killing the same damn thing since '04, and it's just gotten easier and easier and is now just a 200+ person clusterfuck spamming claims or sitting on their arses for 3hrs at a time while I could be doing something much more productive for everyone except the non-ridill War's in our LS," and what does the OP do? He basically gets huffy and bitches at everyone for not agreeing with him. Don't ask for people's opinions and then bitch when they give them.
The BG "legends" are "legends" because they have several thousand posts of moderate, educated, well-thought out perspectives. They all seem to agree in this thread that Fafnir (and most everything in the game these days) is not nearly as hard as it used to be, and these days, it's more a matter of how fast you can kill things or with how few people. FFXI mobs are split into two groups: AV and Einherjar pre-patch (impossible bullshit) and everything else (burnable in minutes). Just because you don't participate in ground camps anymore because you've been doing it for 3 solid years doesn't mean shit. Get over it. "Fafnir Slayer" was cool in '04.
I guess it was a different Aurik in those DA alliances with me?
Your response really has very little to do with the point of Aurik's post. Aurik is simply saying that some people just don't want to spend time camping kings, and that choice doesn't make them any less credible as an endgame player. And whether you like it or not, that's the absolute truth. There's nothing about killing kings that somehow enlightens you and makes you a better player in a way no other aspect of the game could.Originally Posted by Retrieving/C.D/Searain
I don't know what kind of point you're trying to make in your post but whether or not Aurik was a main job WAR doesn't have to effect his opinion on the reality of camping kings. Just because some of your job's most desired gear comes off of a certain HNM, doesn't mean you have to embrace camping that HNM or get offended when anyone says they don't like doing it. Whether or not Ridill drops from Fafnir doesn't mean anyone has to like camping him. Even if you're a WAR.
