Using the words "FFXI" and "credible endgame" together is a bit of an oxymoron, isn't it?
this is the same guy who still calls Joft a legend so what does that tell you.Originally Posted by Quicklet
Just to the original poster.
I think you need to have killed fafhogg for other fafhogg LSs to consider you a credible end game player.
As far as non-fafhogg LSs I don't think they give a flying-fuck either way.
I've been playing this game since NA PC release and to this day have never killed DA-Fafhog, in fact only camped it once ever. However, I can safely say I'm both skilled and credible at all parts of the game. The number of people that come to me to ask for advice on any number of situations including how to fight Fafnir attest to this. My resourcefulness and ability to express rational cognitive thought is what measures my skill and credibility not a single silly dragon in a room packed w/ 200+ other people. Stand on its feet and don't flail, is Fafnir really that hard? Its the same for a number of other fights including KS99-Wyrm, Limbus, Nyzul, and in some setups Ouryu Commeth for example. Claiming? Claiming, is the same as any other nm: either bot it or be skilled; it has nothing to do w/ credibility.
There are TOAU mission bcnms harder than fafnir.Originally Posted by Moridox

However, I've camped/killed Vrtra more times than I have any of the 3 kings.
A long time ago Fafhogg was a measuring stick for how good an end game LS is, but now it means nothing. It's just become way to easy to kill. With merits and just general knowledge of the game, someone can easily kill Faf with less than an alliance.
I'd say Tiamat is more of a measuring stick now, but even that has become rather easy IMO.
Stolin, that was a rhetorical question. There is very little difficulty to Final Fantasy, except what a previous post said. I'll paraphrase as "trying to explain something to a fucktard," not intended at you personally just your common idiot.
The thought of having to kill a what, 4 year old (?) NM in an MMO to be considered a credible endgame player is just silly to begin with. And that's without going into the fact that the NM has never really changed (other than a rage timer), and the player base as a whole has advanced in strength significantly since it was introduced.
Might as well say you had to have killed Steam Cleaner and Byakko too, why just Fafnir?
Ryka, by OP, I of course meant the second poster, sovogebay... Damnit, you're right. It's that same -a/-o thing again.![]()
Well I think Fafnir is regarded as far more important and having more impact on endgame than Byakko or Steam Cleaner. Fafnir is definitely a step up from sky. It's to do with only a few shells camping it regularly and it being highly sought after for its loot by those shells. I would agree that it has diminished in importance since 2004 but it's still highly sought after by endgame shells more than four years after being introduced to the game. It's a yardstick imo.
ya'll fuckers want to be credible? go kill geush urvan (or whatever is spelled) in a normal alliance, without zerging.![]()
yeah, im joking -_-
But you see, you and many people in this post are mistakenly associating the Fafnir hype with difficulty and skill (as pointed out by believing beating Fafnir can effect your credibility) when all the Fafnir hype is... Is a result of poor decisions by SE (IMO). I don't think any other MMO has a 4 year old NM with such horrible pop conditions, that drops an item that good, that has not been replaced by any viable substitutes in 4 years.Originally Posted by Revenant2
All the hype over still camping Fafnir is about his drops, not about the difficulty of defeating it. If it was the difficulty of defeating it that made it so popular it was camped daily by 50-200+ people for 4 years then it would be a different story; but Fafnir is all about the drops. With those facts in mind, combined with the fact that you can experience all there is to experience in a Fafnir fight in other events in the game (as far as skill/strategy goes, the important parts), makes Fafnir worth just about nothing as far as earning your credibility as an endgame player goes.
If you went back in time 3 years and took away Fafnir's drops this argument wouldn't even exist, and that alone says enough.
Their only mistake was introducing the item into the game in the first place. Not adding something better is the smart thing.
I really don't think anyone is arguing about the difficulty at all. It's just a simple rights of passage to me. If you haven't stuck it out for weeks, months, years? Then it's hard for majority (read: not all) of end game players to respect/credit you...that's it, plain and simple. Yes it's only a part of being credible, but a vital one. There's always rights to initiation for everything, and when someone's mommy breaks up a hazing because of a couple crybabies and then the subsequent members of any establishment don't have to go through what you and everyone else had to...its just not the same and you don't get the same credibility.
You don't have to be still camping but you have to have done it at some point.
There are still linkshells that camp Fafnir day-in day-out but are unable to kill in 50 minutes or less, if at all.![]()
Somebody once called me a nub because i had never seen Fafnir. This of course after their LS wiped to mother globe
Its rites of passage or rituals, and that is a very retarded argument.![]()
It usually is to someone who is on the other side of the fence.
hahahaha. Ok i will stop trolling this post, since Ruke and Aurik wrote my views on this subject.![]()
