it sucks that a well known cheater got to reach his mark, but I got my personal wish fulfilled cause at least I got to see it happen. was sitting at a local watering hole and the game was on, oddly enough nobody else was paying attention until i was yelling when he hit the ball and it was clearly going out.

most importantly, a METS fan got the ball

    GO METS!!!!

The fan who ended up with the ball is Matt Murphy, a 22-year-old from Queens, NY who was wearing a New York Mets road jersey. Murphy was promptly protected and escorted away from the mayhem by a group of San Francisco police officers. After Bonds finished his home-run trot, a ten-minute delay followed, including a brief, unexpected, video by Aaron congratulating Bonds on breaking the record Aaron had held for 33 years, and an impromptu emotional statement by Bonds on the field, with Willie Mays, his godfather, at his side.

Just for the record, NO ONE hits their prime in their late 30s. He never hit more than 50 home runs before his 73 home run year when he was ~37-38.

If any of you are Bonds supporters, get over your denial and realize he cheated, and that baseball history will see him that way. It is clear that Bud Selig and Hank Aaron feel that way. Lol @ the fake Congrats from Hank Aaron after the home run.

In other news, he has always sucked in the playoffs, and couldn't throw out the slowest man in baseball in 1992 when he was actually in his prime.

    GG.
Get over your denial that any amount of steroids affects your hand eye coordination and lets you hit the ball with the kind of precision that he did.

Did the steroids possibly help how far the ball went, sure. Did the steroids affect the rate at which he hit the ball and how he hit the ball, no. If you think anything otherwise you either never played baseball before or have shit for brains.

He deserves all the praise for breaking that record.

Babe ruth woulda hit 900 home runs today? I doubt it, the game today is much more difficult than it used to be. There are more games throughout the season to wear on the players, there is more knowledge about the opposing pitchers, stuff that wasn't available 60-80 years ago. There is more knowledge about mechanics of playing to get more movement on the ball, throw the ball harder, faster and with better accuracy. If anything bonds would have hit over 900-1000 in babe ruths day. Were there great players back in that era, sure. But they can't be compared to today's great players. It's a different game completely.

Hitting a baseball isn't hard (I played for 3 years SS 12-15). Thats like saying, its ok for me to rape her, as long as I hit her G-spot.

^You're retarded (to Skylla), I've played baseball my entire life.

Check biology, you don't peak at 38-39. You don't hit 33+ home runs then you have ever hit before when you're 38-39. If his swing was so perfect before why did he never hit over 50? I was watching Sportscenter just now and they made a good point. He was an excellent player before this happened and probably would have finished 3 or 4, steroids made him super human. Steroids enhances everything, including your hand eye coordination. Pitchers use it too.

Baseball records off the top of my head which will never be broken and I feel are legitimate:
    Dimaggio consecutive hit streak
    Ripken consecutive games played
Nolan Ryan career strike outs (I don't anyone is even w/in 1000)
Cy Young career wins (over 600) - fun fact, I am pretty sure he has the career record for losses too, though I may be wrong

Those are the only I can think of currently.

Unless I'm misreading your post, comparing your ability to hit the ball in 12-15 year old little league isn't even remotely comparable to batting in the majors.

I'm not defending Bonds in anyway, I think he's a cheating bastard, but your "point" is highly flawed.

you're retarded, I actually happen to have studied biology quite extensively, it really has nothing to do with this. Bonds did take steroids, he did enhance his muscle mass, it had nothing to do with his ability to hit a baseball, only what happened after he hit it. No people don't peak at their later stages, but they do learn. A lot of the really great, great baseball players were all exceptional players into their 40's. Bonds hasn't been exceptional in his 40's but he's been great. Tell me how the steroids have affected his patience at the plate. Tell me how the steroids have affected his ability to wait for the perfect pitch then take advantage of it. Tell me how the steroids made him able to see the ball more clearly and put the sweet spot of the bat on it in just the right way to get a good lift on it and drive it. The answer is that they don't. All steroids did was possibly make him stay healthy(although he's been injured quite a lot the last few years) and make the ball go a little bit further after he hit it.

I apologize for what I wrote, you could have played baseball and still have shit for brains and not understand that the steroid issue is being blown way out of proportion.

Let's take a few of the people you mentioned. Nolan Ryan? He is like 60 and can still through the ball over 90mph, steroids? No, some people are just freaks of nature. Like roger clemens, he's not a steroid freak, he's a health freak and has been able to maintain/improve his game in the later stages of his career well beyond the 38-39 age. Bonds game isn't based around swinging for the fences and letting his steroid induced muscles push the ball over the fence. His game is based on patience and waiting for the right pitch and then taking advantage of it. And i don't care what other bullshit you wanna spew, steroids have nothing to do with that aspect of hitting.

You could have played baseball all your life, doesn't mean you understand a damn thing about being a good hitter.

The mechanics of hitting are not built on power as much as it is built on hand eye coordination and mechanics. If you can hit the ball in the right spot every time, a weaker person can hit better than a stronger person. Look at jose canseco, a damn muscle house but he couldn't hit the ball for shit. Then look at someone small like ichiro who could hit the ball out of the park a ton if that was his game. It's about how you put the bat on the ball and the mechanics of your swing more than it is how much muscle you have.

I'm not saying he didn't use anything, i'm saying that even if he did use his accomplishments are still something to be praised.

And Fin LOL at the poster thinking that playing in little league or kids minors gives you any kind of perspective on what it's like to play competitive baseball and the difficulty in hitting a ball thrown 95+ mph.

PS: i'm going to bed so f u, i could strike you out even after my shoulder surgery. oooooh e-threat +1.

This guy basically sums it all up. Bonds was an incredible hitter of his time with one of the most fluid, fastest, and smallest swings ever. He really does deserve everything. I still hate the game for being an asshole and for doing the steroids, but he does deserve what he gets.

Do I think he did steroids? Yes. Do I know for a fact he did steroids? No cause he's never been caught in a drug test since baseball started testing. Hate the players all you want, but you should really be hating the game for letting it get to this point.

Bonds was a good player, and still is.

It's really sad he did those roids.

And because he copped out and cheated he doesn't deserve the praise.

He's going to have to live with that too, and he knows it.

    @Skyyla

Hundreds of "Flyouts" turned into homeruns due to his roids.

Can try to argue all you want, millions know hes dirty, and so do all his teammates and peers. Praise you see from them is not to hurt the league anymore than it already is.

on the contrary, a huge part of bonds success is that he was strong enough that he could crowd home plate, and swing fast enough because of that muscle mass to get around on inside pitches and not leave any part of the plate uncovered. Its a pretty huge advantage.

then how come with the exception of palmerio, the only players that have been outed (and by outed I mean they were actually caught through an administered test) is shit role players that haven't done shit for there career. Steroids make great players better, but they don't make shit players better.

    Re: Bonds just hit 756

It might just be me, but I guess I have a different definition of cheating than other people do. If baseball didn't want major leaguers taking steroids...maybe there should have been some sort of rule against it. Bonds is a law-breaker, who used illegal performance-enhancing drugs to help extend his career and build his muscles.

But...he didn't cheat, as far as I can tell - unless people assume that he continued to use steroids after 2002, when it was against the rules. The guy is still an exceptional hitter, has a remarkable eye, and incredible plate discipline. I watch his at-bats and I'm not in disbelief at the idea that he could hit mid-40s HR totals not on steroids - he had 30+ HRs in 8 separate seasons before 1999, when he wasn't particularly muscular, before the idea that he ever used steroids came into play. Considering the firestorm of BALCO, Victor Conte, and Greg Anderson, along with the rule change, he'd have to be either a ninja or monumentally stupid to continue using steroids at that point. Many things overwhelmingly lead me to believe that he did use steroids at one point. Nothing overwhelming leads me to believe he used them when they were against the rules - which for me is how you define cheating in a sport.
