Gjallarhorn Stolen [getting slightly better on KI]

Kinda suprised this hasn't been mentioned here yet, but that's probably because of how it happened.

Cliffnotes and some info not on the KI thread:

Liareturns wasn't going to be able to play for a few months, so he offered to let the ls use his account while he was gone so the Gjallarhorn could be put to use for the ls. He gave his account info to Tipo since he trusted him (has he not learned from the others who got betrayed by people they trusted?). Shortly after this happened I had left the ls/server so I can only go by hearsay at this point.

About a month passes and Liareturns tries to log in to his account to say hi or something. But he's unable to because his PW was changed. He then finds out his ls forum access was removed as well leading him to (rightfully so) believe that his account was in fact stolen by Tipo.

That's pretty much it, but those on Unicorn have been having a laugh at it since Liareturns was known for being shady, so they see this as karma kicking him in the ass.

Moral of the story: Don't give your info out. (How many times must it be said?)

Do people not realize you can call SE and get your account back if you have your registration codes? Just tell them you lost your password and they'll ask you a few weird questions that you can answer if it was your account.

Well, there was a confrontation about someone "stealing" a Ridill on the thread. But Unicorn drama still fails.

I just figured since a Gjallarhorn was involved it may be worth posting.

I'm suprised SE doesn't implement a CPNI style process where at acct creation you give them information that makes you, and only you, the authorized user on the acct (name, address, last 4 or pin, etc). Think that would really cut down on such account thefts in the future.

I'll say it again...

Anyone who gives out their acc info to anyone they do not have access to IRL is an idiot. Trusting someone over the internet is stupid. Unless you know you can tear their head off IRL if they ever scammed you, they should never know your acc info, unless you truly don't value the many hours you've put into building your character.

Personally, I'll never give my acc info to anyone, period. I value the thousands upon thousands of hours I've spent building my character too much to even minimally risk losing it all.

Yeah, but it's kinda shocking how easilly account information can be changed without some sort of check and balance involved in the process. Sure you shouldn't be giving out your acct. info to begin with, but a simple precautionary measure on SE's part can really alleviate such matters in the future (especially in terms of stolen or hacked accounts).

Fact. I actually called them and asked what kind of things I can do to protect my account. I gave them the situation where I had a bitch of an ex-girlfriend who had my CC number and pertenent info for the account, and was told that their policy is that if the person cannot verify the current CC on the account, they can't assist you with a password change. Even if that CC was put on there the day before. Maybe you can convince them to make an exception by verifying lots of info + old CC number and CD keys, but I was told that no current CC number will leave you locked out of the account.
