Need help deciding what to get in a laptop

mmm bought it from dell, And i know, if i would have built mine i could have done better, but i didn't have cash on hand, and dell has better payment options.
My old computer fried, and i needed one for when school starts next week lol.

How bad is vista for FFXI?

i guess not bad havent tried since SE actually gives support to vista, i am just against vista in general lets just say this is my laptop:

it was running vista kinda slow....... fuck i hate vista, i heavily recomend format and get xp until microsoft fix that shit or says it wont support xp anymore.
mine came with vista i installed my own xp(iso from internet) and HP techs fixed all driver problems :D

I used the dealcatcher website and it eventually pulled me to the Vostro lineup of laptops which are rather incredible deals compared to their other dell product lines, so huge thanks to people who pointed me at dell, especially since it came with a good service plan. I was interested in being able to change parts out in order to ensure longevity in case the laptop craps out and whatever company I buy it from dicks me around.

She does play games, but the games she chooses are not the type to require a top-end system. So I opted for a C2D 5470 in a Vostro 1500 and an Nvidia 8600GT. With 2 years accidental damage coverage it's slightly over $1000, which is good. Is this sufficient for online gaming? Or will I be able to sneak by with an 8400GS realistically? Ordering it tomorrow one way or another.

To the people who said I'll be using it, I have my own laptop which is just like a laptop to me already.
