Big Bomb

I have a few questions about Big Bomb.

1: What is the best method to get past all the true sight mobs? Flee, RR, sleep?

2: What is the approximate damage burst required to make Big Bomb grow?

3: Is it possible to keep Big Bomb at the smallest size for the whole fight if one does not WS, does not nuke, and uses no two-handed weapons?

If you have 5 (or is it 6..I forgot) people, you can use the switch in the first troll room and save up some time. Otherwise, training/reraise is the best way if you fail and aggro something on the way. Sleep logout also works in case you aggro, but it's possible to die if you get unlucky with resist/link.


Not sure what is "spike" dmg, but I'm certain i read it was killed in small form in a previous thread. Never done it that way tho, was duoing with blm/nin and rdm/nin

I was thinking about Big Bomb few days back and was going to ask some of the stuff OP did, no point in making a new thread for my questions:

What is the Bomblet drop rate like? is it worth the hassle of sneaking to the pop area?
Can a Thf/Nin and Rdm/anything take it with relative ease?

You only need 4 people to open the doorway, but they can't be taru, I believe. Two Taru = one hume/mithra I think? Similar to the weighted doors in Quicksand.

Big Bomb can easily be killed with THF/NIN + RDM or NIN + RDM. It grows up when you do more than ~250 dmg, so if you don't WS/nuke or crit it for over 250dmg you'll be fine, can test this out on the Friar's lanterns that drop his pop item. But if you wipe to it while it's in the smallest form, it will go back to the ??? and depop, if you make it grow once or more and wipe I think it wont depop till someone kills it.

I'm 4/12 on the bomblet (guess I was lucky) and pop item (Smoky Flask) is about 30% drop. Imo it's worth going there and solo/duo it, easy money since almost no one besides some RMT farm it, and most of them don't even know that 6 lanterns can drop the pop item not only the 2 on the bridge.

Yeah, 6 can drop the pop item but 2 of them are a pain in the ass to get to without dying. Lots of true sight mobs on the way. What I do is kill the 2 on the bridge and then invis up past the bombs and into the room with the NM. There's one true sight troll in that room; the NM and the guards do not aggro. What you do is go in the corner on the opposite side of the true sight Troll and pull them to there. The 2 across the room are the ones that can drop. Just make sure you don't aggro that true sight troll while pulling. Drop rate on Smoky Flask is decent, I seem to average about ~1 an hour, last time I went though only got one in 4 hours. My record on Big Bomb is about about ~4/25ish(a lot of kills were before he was force pop, but drop rate hasn't changed). All pop items were farmed with TH4 and almost every Big Bomb kill was with TH4.

14/53 on Fire Bomblet but last time I went there I was 1/40 on the Flask, all with at least TH4.

I meant more like, with at least one THF with TH4 D:... Since we've had more than one THF on a few occasions.

As said before, a single hit of 250 will make him grow, however I have experienced a few incidents where I had a 6 hit attack round followed by another 6 (highest hit being 110 since i stole his berserk) and he grew.

at about 30% he gains vulcanian impact regardless of size, so keep that in mind (30% in smallest form, if he grows he always has it)

I believe it's the total damage done in one attack round that matters.

Also, I just want to verify... I know it's been said above, but can anyone confirm that the lanterns in MMM's room and the ones at I-10 drop the flask?

Pretty sure it's just the single amount of damage done. I think it actually has to be over 200 though, but it also is just a high chance. It won't always happen, but it will almost every time.

And yes, those bombs also drop the flask. There are 6 bombs in three different areas (groups of 2) that drop them.

Still at a 1/4 drop-rate, 27/109 now. About 1/10 for flask too.

It will depop about two minutes after being left alone, and if it has grown it won't go back down. Saw a few Japanese players wipe to it at 13% with it at full size, and it sat there for about two or three minutes and despawned.

It was pretty sad

Assuming you have a RDM (I always duo as RDM + THF) even if your tank dies you can hold it using Bind. I've held it for over 5 minutes in that fashion before.
