Sound junkie needs computer expert

My computer is part of a home recording and production studio. I have ALOT of audio programs installed and at this point its become a mess of settings overlapping.

When I go to use my normal microphone (cheapo 5 buck type of PC mic you'd use for cam chats or some shit), and I play an mp3 using my DJ rig on Cue (meaning I SHOULD only be able to hear it through my headphones on that channel), all of my sound programs record BOTH the mp3 playing AND the mic input.


I wanna just play a song thru cue in my headphones, and record the microphone input of a vocal track.

Normally it works.

What audio setting is doing it where when you hit record in any software (even windows basic sound recorder) it records ANY audio coming through the sound card, I dont want that.

I think it will vary on computer, but if you go to the sound settings for your input, (something like this)

You're going to want to mute a combination of these, I'm not sure I'm totally understanding you but try messing with those. Every sound card is different and will look different/have different options than what I have so it's a big guessing game unless you're sure what you want.

if its a creative card there's a recording channel called "What U Hear" which does just what it says... records EVERYTHING... make sure that is muted/unchecked

Thank you guys very very much. That's what it was. Somehow with all these audio programs I had the input channel unmuted and it was recording "what you hear" as well as mic input.
