Because swing frequency =/= hit frequency. :DI'm confused why you dismiss offhand club so liberally and then promote hit frequency and enspell so much
A reduction of 1% hit rate hurts more and more as you go down (2% -> 1% cuts your output in half), and as you noted earlier, RDM would be treading water with B-rated weapons as it is. Also, club merits would add nothing to the atk/acc value of your weaponskills. Kraken usually ejects most jobs' discussions into the wasteland of theory anyway given the rarity. The gear I listed is maybe 10 mil tops. The rare/ex stuff is noteworthy but not legendary.
En-element damage versus connect rate is multiplication, so any single-minded focus is self defeating--balanced factors beat lopsided factors (e.g. 10 x 10 vs. 5 x 15). That means we want both high swing rate/accuracy and magic effect damage. Since there are only two slots that can affect the en-element damage at the time of the attack, it makes sense to defer to them first then make up Acc and Haste elsewhere. Also, I'm suspicious about Brutal not activating on Joyeuse (I haven't studied closely).

Coincidence?
Brutal does affect Joy, but the proc happens prior to Joy's DA. So you are attacking 1.525 times/round if you were single-wielding Joy with Brutal, meaning on that hand you are only getting a 1.6% increase in swing rate.Originally Posted by Loren
On other multi-hits like KC or Ridill Brutal would end up hurting your hit-rate because the 5% DA would end up lowering your overall more-than-DA swings.
Because en- are magic damage, the resist are in 50%-25%-10% increments. Unless you have 300+ Enhancing, you are treading under 20 en-spell damage. By bumping those half and quarter-resists from 4/9 to 5/10, you can guarantee an increase increase of least +1 even if your en- is heavily resisted. That and the acc increase is what makes Hollow useful over Brutal in a Blau/Joy setup.
So you're Wrish then.Originally Posted by Whatinthe

And as to why not Kraken Club, there is another inherent weakness that affects Red Mages. Swings that a truncated by the next attack round do not have their en-spell damage counted. I found when I was skilling up club that the next attack round started approximately after the 5th swing, if I got a full 8 the last three would not have additional effects listed in the log. This was before I had a plethora of haste gear, so I am not sure if someone wearing full haste would stop counting additional damage after the 4th swing or not.
So basically the main draw of a Kraken for Red Mage (increased hit frequency for more en-spell damage) is hampered by the main draw of a Kraken.
I think this is a malfunction in the game not logging the En-spell damage as opposed to the damage not actually registering...easy enough way to test would be just turn your back after every swing to see when 5+ hits land, if they get their effects proc'dOriginally Posted by Septimus
I think the log truncating effect damage would only hurt you in a parser opposed to anything else![]()
The damage may still be calculated since it is all server-side, but it will hurt you in the parser which is is the point of this highly academic discussion.Originally Posted by Carnusty
