Short, but very too the point. I think it really hits the nail on the head in terms of the need for a strong community within the game.

That guy's English is fucking terrible. (Unless it was translated from Japanese, which it looks like it might be.)
Guys angry his GF dumped him, so he bitched about it in an article. Nobody helped 90% of us who started this game OH so long ago, we found other people that needed it and tried until we did it.
I don't think English is his first language. Regardless of bad grammar I think it does reflect the troubles that many new players go through.
Sounds like your typical run of the mill noob who hates FFXI due to playing years of easy mode MMOs, and emotionally unstable to the point where random people on the internet hurt him with that very word he is! Noob!
Nail on the head? Hardly. Cry moar.
You can't even have numbers in your character's name. And it appears he isn't talking about FFXI at all.
Game's no fun at low levels without friends, duh? Least later on you can gain some pleasure out of dicking someone else out of a drop or something.
You can't even have numbers in your character's name. And it appears he isn't talking about FFXI at all.You can't have numbers in your name in most newer MMO's nowadays, it's an arbitrary example. Do you nitpick when someone uses an SSJ[name] example and say "omg you're not talking about XI, you can't have capitals after the first letter".
Skimmed it; I want my 90 seconds back.

Says his name is Rodrigo, from Brazil. So there you have it.
Emo articles from people who sucked at an MMO/anything, suck.
I propose a new headline tag
[ER] = Emo Rant
When I started Final Fantasy, man was I pumped. I had been looking forward to it, watching a friend play JP Beta, and knew that it was what I was looking for in a game. When I made my character, after letting my computer sit for like six hours downloading & installing the updates and game, I couldn't decide what to name him. In spite of my anxious desire to get into Vana'diel, I really hadn't realized how hard it would be to name him! I wanted to name him Ri d'Daraan. But of course, finding out that apostrophes & spaces weren't allowed, I was a little miffed. But in spite of everything I tried to create something fun and diverse!
I created an Elvaan because I just knew that this would be like every other RPG to date, and that Elves would have the highest DEX, so I could wind up being a really awesome THF. When I started, I remember not being able to control my character very well. Full-Keyboard mode was so disorienting and it took a stranger, passing by, to explain how to change to Compact mode. From that point, he took me to learn about Signet, and then Missions. He took me on a quest, and chained it to the next quest (Something to do with ingots, in Bastok Markets), and he showed me over to the Auction House. From there, he bought me a sword, and took me outside to show me how to kill, farm crystals, and so on. Then we took a fire crystal and he taught me about gold-smithing. From that point, he gave me 10,000 Gil, a stack of Fire Crystals, and bade me good journey. I'll never remember his name, and it was when I made my character, originally, on Titan, but all of that is what made me stick with Final Fantasy.
Our community is one of the strongest, most diverse, and most mature. In spite of our tons of problem players, I can assure you that because we have a smaller subscriber base, and because most of our subscribers are loyalists to a long term franchise (which many have been playing since they were small children, when Final Fantasy for NES came out), we have more respect for our game, and the community overall, than nearly any other MMORPG out there. That community is what has led me to spend four & half years earning treasures which will never fill my wallet, and making many friends which I will never know. I've defeated enemies which will never hurt me, and I've shown valor I would never have in real life.
All of my memories of Final Fantasy will be treasured, even the ones that have upset me or pissed me off. Honestly, I don't know what this guy's problem is. All I can think of, is that he obviously doesn't know how to enjoy an experience for what it truly is. Some people get involved in games to escape life. Some get involved for fun. I think those who come to escape, are forgetting what games are supposed to be about.
Then again, who plagiarizes their character's name with the expectation it'll be original, and can possibly expect to fully enjoy a world that is, pretty much, what you make of it?
This game doesn't need a strong community. People who talk about community have no fucking idea what they're talking about. The way this game is designed, even if every character worked nicely with each other, could fill any possible role, and then used the right job to fill that role, some random guy would still be left out, because they can't do a fucking thing on their own. Since John Doe Hume isn't going to be 100% selfless, no amount of bullshit togetherness will automatically get a guy a spot in a decent PT, because it's all about the bottom fucking line.
What this bitchity-bitch is bitchity-bitch-tripping about is just not getting his way, to which I say...
Boo-a'fucking-a'hooo
but there's a smn meleeing with a club, awesome!!!!!!!1
I guess it matters at least a little because anyone is going to see his pictures and think he's talking about his time on FFXI.
Anyway, he focuses on too much of the bad and not enough on how to fix it(on paragraph at the end, or really two sentences).
This is the most advanced player topic I have ever seen.
I was lucky somewhat at the start. My friend November helped me with my 1st set of gear being Bronze armor of course and from there I was able to figure out what to do.
I've always told people time and again that you need to learn not to depend on people when you 1st start out and to make your own way into the world of Vana'diel to be able to get somewhere.
I solo'd my RSE gear *which I still have to this day* as a Lv.45 RDM and have taken it as an expereince with some pride that I didn't have to depend on anyone to get my keys or locate the chests to pop with which to get the magical patterns.
I like the soloing aspect of ffxi which honestly needs to be expanded upon outside of BST and a few other things players can do.
I think it's absolute rubbish, I didn't know anyone when I started the game, and I very quickly met some friends and worked my way up.
Well in case you haven't noticed, community doesn't mean everyone is equal. Even in the base living conditions of a small social commune, you still will have alphas, betas, and losers. People will never be equal, no matter where you roam. By community, I guess I mean, I've seen more willingness to help one another, pass items for others, and so on, than I've ever heard about in any other game that my friends have played. I could be naive, maybe my LS's general good-nature towards one another has spoiled me...
Anyway, I do agree with you about the blogger, LD. I guess that's all the OP wanted to know. Sorry for my sentiment.Originally Posted by LD
Whine, whine. I had one good friend help me out my first few days in FFXI, and by help, I mean show me how to kill my first mob, buy me the basic bronze armor set, and teach me about Mog House, and mission starters. That's it. I still found this game incredibly fun from day one.
Basically. 8)Originally Posted by Lexa
