    Time consumption in WoW?

I have a question to anyone who plays WoW here atm

Can you accomplish (in at least levelling a decent amount) various things in WoW in about 2 hours at most in a sitting?

I have found my time to become far less, so I'm likely quitting FFXI (hell, it takes 1-2 hours to gather for an event that can last 2-4 hours...), but I have some friends starting WoW. I'm just curious if you can accomplish more things with less time used in WoW (especially, as the impression I got, is that you can solo with any of the jobs reasonably, with quests or killing monsters).

How long do instances generally take as well?

xping will take a long time, even longer to than FFXI. I quit at level 40 because I just couldn't put so much time into leveling up anymore (and that's besides the fact it was getting boring, even with guides -- the guides claim that they can bring you to 70 fast, but they're mostly all written for PVE servers... I guess they work well if you do that, but if you try and play on a PVP server like me the areas they suggest are mostly stacked with a bunch of people from the opposite alliance ready to gank you just cus they're bored (too many kids play that game..))

Did you like not do any quests? It takes less than a month to get to 70.

If you play it religiously maybe... and yes I obviously did quests. I got to 40 in about 2 weeks, without playing too much, but the xp was just jumping up every level up by insane levels... almost 100k for 1 level in the 40s is too much for my tastes, even if I wasn't doing it solo (I played a lock, figured I don't need to do quests in a party..)

I might eventually pick it up again since the characters are never deleted, I just don't have the time to be playing a timesink game right now.

The xp quests give and the xp given by mobs increases too...

Again, not enough for my tastes... getting 4-5k per quest isn't that stellar.

The time consumption in a comparison from FFXI to WoW Leveling is astonishing.
WoW is built around not having to sit down for hours on end and grind shit. You have multiple places to go and quests to do and instances to farm to get exp and providing you with the ability to exp in a group or solo.
With 2 and a half ours and a decent knowledge about what your spells/abilities/traits do you can effectively get to 70 in far less time then it would ever take in FFXI unless you had a static PT.

If you want a leveling guide to give you an idea of how easy it is google: Joana's Horde Leveling Guide
or if you are Alliance use: http://www.wow-pro.com/node/600

You'll be able to level, craft, and earn money. I disagree with Slapper, you'll at best be able to do 75-90% of a level per day on your first character if you can only dedicate 2 hours to the game.

Instances will be difficult to manage since people like to play replacement musical chairs in this game, too, and setting up instances can take an eternity. Organized raid events depending on the guild will usually take 3-4 hours with a setup time of 15-45 minutes.

PvP might be your best option given your time constraints to gear yourself in epics; however, the gear isn't optimal for PvE as it places survivability above damage output.

It's the same shit in a different package.

Getting 70 doesn't take much time, isn't too hard either. It takes roughly the same amount of time as a 75 in XI, sometimes one can be faster than the other, however it is alot easier and not as frustrating. Quests give XP, alot of quests give you missions to kill certain mobs, so you get XP from mobs and from the quest. Sometimes you get ganked, whatever, its not as bad as having to find parties and there is no dealing with whiney players. You do it yourself, you do it at your own pace, and it's consistent. In 1-2hr's you might be able to get a couple quests done, you can farm a little too. Gold is easy to get, it takes barely any time or effort to get. At 70 you can farm gold at rediculous rates. Lowbie instances that you get PL'd through by a high lv friend will take a few minutes, with a group instances can take hours and hours. They reward a good amount of money and XP though. Later on you can save instances and continue them over sessions of a few hours to waiting a whole day.

You can do a lot in 2/3 hours than you can in FFXI, really easy to level, put together an instance group or just go farm for synth items.

General rule of MMOs: If the game has a PvP server, your first character probably doesn't belong there.

WoW is kind of the opposite. Once he reaches level 70, he won't have shit to do other than rep grind, raid (think instanced dynamis, only better), or pvp. If he's on a PvP server, he can go out and kill people for fun. Can't do that on a normal server.

Another thing that's good about PvP servers is that they teach you how to play your class under 'harsh' conditions. Leveling on 'care-bear' servers tends to not really put you under any situations where actual players (with brains) are out to get you.

A lot of people start out on PvE servers, and never learn how to defend themselves properly, simply because they never had to. This causes them to get their salads tossed the moment they step onto and a PvP server because the only real threat they've faced was a scorpion add.

Edit: One time I read on the BG boards (before split) that a player got to level 60 and had 4/5 tier 3 epics(think sky gear) in the same amount of playtime that it took him to get RDM to 75.

go PVP server so if you hate you char at 70 you can always sell it easy lol.

No really pvp has always been more fun even from the start. You bitch and complain when you are doing quests and someone kills you, or worse, camps you for a bit. But it's great when you catch someone in an area they shouldn't be in, and you camp the hell out of him. I always found raiding small towns with flight paths fun. Go in with 1-4 people, end up having to deal with 2-4 people defending, plus NPC's. so great. I have 14k HK's on one char and 60k on another lol.

I would never play off a PvP.
My first char was on a PvP server and while its annoying getting ganked it makes it that much more fun when you are the person ganking at 70.
Really fun ganking while opposite faction is killing a boss or something important :D

SoC + Nagrand Arena Event Bosses + Opposite faction = HK+100.

In some scenarios, you'll be engaged by members of the opposing faction who are at a similar level to you. Those were usually enjoyable situations for me. However, the more typical scenario is that you're level 28, finishing up some quests in Hillsbrad Foothills, and an ambush crit hits you for 3k; oh, and good luck getting your corpse back. There's not much defense against that...

learning running rezzes and not sitting and eating after you rez
learning how to use terrain to rez to your advantage etc...

Yea I started on PvE for those reasons. That just does not sound fun to me, more like a head ache. And I wouldn't want to do that to someone else either. What are you trying to prove by being a level 70 camping The Barrens killing people trying to farm hides for their leathercraft or doing some quest. Why don't you go try and kill someone your own size.

Maybe later in my WoW career I'll play PvP but at this point I am fine learning the game on the "care-bear" servers.

Why? Because we know you have this mind-set.
