Po shot my warhawk down last night with 2 shots with his sniper... pretty crazy shit lol.

And I'll be one of the clan's pilots, make everything go boom!

I think I'd prefer being a ground troop myself, but we'll see. I like sniping as well as frontline fighting in most of these types of games.

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

Always been a sucker for Sniping... even though it gets my ass handed to me more often than not. That being said though, this game just seems too "GO GO GO!" for sniping to really get much attention for long, and the titular (yeah) vehicle is what has me the most excited. The idea of being a support Warhawk, just laying clusters for speedy foot soldiers seems like fun.

I keep having this mental image of my Warhawk coming up from behind a cliff all Rambo style (or am i thinking of Face Off?) ... and very likely getting blasted out of the sky the moment i do, but... i can dream.

Also... why teh fck wasn't the retail version shipped yesterday to somewhat coincide with the PSN release? I dun get it.

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

There's a shitload of stuff actually, I only messed with the warhawk last night because I wanted to get used to it.

There are tanks and ground turrets that are fucking devestating, especially when you have to protect an area from an aerial attack.

I'll probably give the tanks a whirl today, I wanna see what they're all about.

By the way, the warhawks have this thing you can pick up that diverts missles that are being sent your way, you basically just activate it as they're coming and it makes them miss... however you can only hold 2 at a time. Last night when Po and I played by ourselves it wasn't a problem because it's all over the place and the items respawn rather fast, so we just picked more... but in a packed enviornment it will be hard to do that. Therefore, I decided to mess with Po a little (and later some other dude that joined our match as well) and sent 1 missle, to which they responded with that diversion thing... then I sent 2 at them, and they used it again (you can't really tell how many are coming your way, especially when you're looking the other way..), which then left them without any of those diversion bombs left, to which I responded with x8 missles to blow them up heh (when you have multiple regular missles, all you have to do is hold L1 when you see the target and it'll start packing up the missles, you hear small clicks and you see the target retriggering which lets you know how many missles you're stacking up... then you just let go of the L1 when you're ready to blast them).. auto targeting with the warhawks/turrets/tanks only works on other ground turrets/warhawks though, so you can't target a single player that's on the ground, just gotta be lucky with the aim.

One weapon the warhawks have is pretty sweet, it's a homing missle that does some pretty massive damage, but you have to auto target it by holding L1 and the charge is pretty long (there's a side square that gets smaller and smaller until it fully lucks in and then you shoot it... i'd recommend only using it if you're sure the enemy has no diversion bombs left though because you can only pick up 3 homing missles at a time)... last night when Po and I already got used to actual flying (versus just hovering which is much easier but slower), we had some pretty sick showdowns with diversion bombs and homing missles heh... there's also a pretty good lightning attack with the warhawk which sends bolts at the enemy and does some nice damage. In one of the 1vs1 we had, i got him down to about 50% and then we kept spinning around and around trying to shoot each other, then we rushed in infront of each other and started shooting, but instead of shooting I charged up a homing missle and let it go right before we passed each other, which killed him and made a huge smoke in the air, and then my warhawk went right through the smoke, it was so fucking amazing... the graphics are incredible.

In short, get the damn game people, let's mess some other clans up.

Exo and Po, have either of you encountered any system freezing? Hearing that occasionally in game (but more often at the end of the game after time has run out) that people's games/PS3s are just freezing up. Restarting fixes it apparently, but it continues to happen.

Others have just re-downloaded it, and that seems to clear it up also. I guess this was a problem for some in the Beta as well.

No Freezing at all, and we played 3 games together (and Po played even more later but I don't think he had any trouble..)

As a matter of fact, there was no lag whatsoever at all either.

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

Good to hear, no Freezers in GFP!

Another bit of info i hadn't realized... you can have a passnger player in a Warhawk?? According to the FAQ i read, the passenger in a Warhawk gets access to an Enhanced Map showing all players/vehicles in the game area. This was something i hadn't heard before... and sounds interesting... kinda like a scout.

Some other interesting bits (that you may already know) since there is no "online manual":

    What are the ground weapons?
Knife, Pistol, Rifle, Sniper, Flamethrower, Rocket Launcher, Proximity Mines, Binoculars, and Grenades

    What are the air weapons?
Machine Gun, Swarm Missiles, Homing Missiles, TOW Missiles, Lightning gun, Air mines, Cluster Bomb, Chaff, and the Stealth Weapon

    Can I kamikaze?
Yes. You can attach Proximity mines to your vehicle/warhawk and drive it into the enemy's base and kill yourself and your enemies (and your friends).

Abandoned vehicles and warhawks will self destruct after approximately 2 minutes.

    The maps:
Archipelago is a map of extreme size. There are 7 high rise islands that can be accessed ONLY by air. Each island is separated by water and a 300 ft drop. Each island also houses a node and a flag (flag position changes depending on map variation).

Badlands is basically you desert setting, with enough stone arches and formations to satisfy anyone. It's basically laid out in a linear fashion, with AA turrets at each node. At either end of the map, there is a small (destroyed) city which serves as the main base of each side.

    Destroyed Capital
is possible one of the best maps (IMO), as it has towering skyscrapers and isolated towers accessible via the air. The main, central area is where the action really takes place. There's an aviary and a small gazebo in the center, and on either side, there stands huge towers that is an ideal sniper spot. The secondary locations, of which there are 6, are where the AA turrets and nodes are located. below all the action, there is a think haze that warhawks can use as cover to avoid being shot down by the turrets. Be careful not to go too far down, as the water is very difficult to see and you will probably get killed quickly.

    Island Outpost
is one of the largest maps, and represents the ultimate in strategic locations. With a multitude of nodes and bridges connecting each half of the map, this one has everything. High points for snipers, low spots for ground troops, and large bases for mounting your favorite vehicle and warhawks. There are a LOT of turrets on this map, so when manning a warhawk, keep plenty of chaff handy.

Eucadia is possibly the largest map. Here, you can drive for probably 5 minutes in a jeep and not reach your opponent's base. There are several small villages that house the nodes for CTF and Zones, and each team has a small main base at either end of the map. Here, like Island outpost, it is very easy to get killed by a turret if you like warhawks, so just stay alert.

    Will i like this game?

Yes, unless you are a pansy.

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

We haven't tested it, but yes the guy that comes with you has access to all the people on the map, so he's basically your navigator (your map only shows you enemies that are in your radius.)

EDIT: And the Chaffs are the distortion bombs that make your warhawk evade the missles.

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

lol I was skeptical, it is the first online game i'm playing since FFXI, but from my experience with it last night it's really fun.

I still don't get how to chat though... I guess you can't talk to people from the opposite team, because Po and I couldn't talk (I believe someone wrote somewhere it's L3, but pressing it did nothing.)

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

Yeah, its the only way. It is a Press to Talk sorta setup. Press in L3 to talk, let go after. Sounds like that may take some getting used to. You have your Mic/Headset registered in PS3 settings?

I was kinda bummed to hear that there is no Squad Chat functionality, like Resistance has. You can half ass it, and just mute everyone else but your "Sqaudies" but that seems a bit too much to have to do every time. I am also unclear if you can hear EVERYONE, on both teams. Again, seems like that would just be silly if so.

Oh, another thing... teamkills. I was hoping that there would be none, but apparently there is and furthermore if you do it enough, the server kicks you out of the game =P

Here is a nice informative topic. Can't play yet, so i am soaking up screens and info at work. =)

I like this pic from a mock up of downloadable content later on down the line:

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

Someone joined our game yesterday, and joined Po's team and still killed him heh.

But yeah, I guess it makes sense that it doesn't let you talk to the other people in the game... but it would've been easier in the practice sessions for example heh.

EDIT: As for that pic, I hope they don't make you pay for this shit..

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

Q: Can I make it so that I can only communicate with certain people?
A: Yes, using a "patch" system, you can adjust options for every player in the match. You can make it so that you only hear and speak to clan members, or only to squad leaders [not sure how one becomes a Squad Leader...], or even just people on your friends list.

Well, as stated by the game director regarding DL'd Content, he personally doesn't want to "nickel and dime gamers for content that should have been included in the game" but of course only time will tell on that. Some may be free, some may be purchased with cash or sacrificial offerings.

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

Sorry guys I am here finally! :D

I was out running errands all day, but I played a few matches this morning and did pretty decent.

Yes the knife is very powerful. I killed one dude with it with 2 swipes, and then ran behind another guy and just 1 shot him with it to kill him. So probably if you sneak up it is 1 hit, otherwise it is 2 or 3.

Obviously the Warhawks are the most fun, but I swear some of the biggest thrills is being on the ground and taking out the Hawks. My fave thing to do right now is get the rocket launcher and try and shoot it at the Hawks. You press and hold R1 for it to lock on until it makes the same noise as the homing missile and then it goes for them. It is not as accurate as the Homing Missile which makes sense, but it just feels so good to take a Hawk down with a rocket launcher from the ground :D

Exo another item I found was this item which makes you invisible on radar and like transparent in the air. Forget its name. I don't think it will matter much for 1 on 1 since you can still see the Hawks in the air, or small matches, but on a big match to activate that and pop around the back of the enemy base and you could take out a shitload of people.

And we need to play Island base or w/e it is called. Best map I have seen yet.

GOD DAMN THIS GAME IS GOOD ... I think it is definitely system seller worthy.

Edit - Grae just saw your post. Did he say how this "patching" is done to speak with clan members? I did not see that option when setting up the match.

    Re: Warhawk Impressions?

I used that yesterday to take down that nacho guy that played with us. It's the weapon that you equip by holding left+down on the d-pad right? Starts at 100 and when you activate it it turns you invisible and you can fly around with it... the number went down pretty quickly iirc. Problem is, the second you want to equip a missle and shoot it, it takes the invisibility off at that moment, not when you shoot it... i'm sure it's still got its uses though, especially in packed matches.

Yep yep. It was cool, and it will be a strategic weapon for sure while playing big team matches.

When will you be home to fuck around tonight :D ?
