    Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

So I've been at 75 on my nin for a while but never tanked any real HNM, your occasional random NM like Guivere blah blah. So we have a Bya run coming up and its only gonna be me and another pld as tanks (everyone is going back to school ; ; ) So i was wondering what setup i should use in terms of physical dmg reduction or haste? Bya is a thf/whm or something so i was leaning towards dmg reduction. HALP!

    edit: wtf smiley faces

Eat Tavnazian tacos and dump any evasion gear you have. Wear Arhat's Gi full time and as much haste as possible. Wear an earth/terra staff. Instruct your linkshell to do a stun order with the stunners that goes immediately when they're ready. Tool spammage is good hate. If you see Byakko start Banishga III, start Ichi, you'll cast right after it lands (this may take some timing practice).

    NIN/DRK

Shit is situational, but I'd suggest going with a full enmity / Haste setup for stuns and recasts in general, and a full DD-% gearset when tanking. Anywhere you can't put Enmity, HP or Haste put HP.

nin/drk + pld/nin or nin/drkx2 will work well. Just need both tank coordinate hate well (can let 2ppl sata on each tank). And having some ppl spam stun on byakko for every 3-5secs.

as for equip, you can use full haste for casting utsusemi. And the -phy damage(also as the hate eq) when draw hate too. it wont be any problem as long as the byakko doesnt stay on one target more than 5-7secs...

maybe you can try the stun katana too, and switch to 2h weapon for weapon bash >.>

It's just Byakko... He's not _that_ bad. I've nearly solo tanked him before, was trying to out do the other 2 Ninjas on him, even with SATA on them I held hate nearly the full time and tanked him fine, PLD/NIN. He was on me for far more then 5-7s at a time, lol. Sure, he rapes shadows and if you fuck up you can be toast in a moment but with good support and knowing how to keep shadows up, he's nothing amazingly hard to tank.

Focus on Haste, Enmity, Phys-, HP. Just like your gear should be when tank anything else on NIN. Use whatever you feel comfortable with, some NINs use Terra's Staff, some use katanas and DD a bit. It's just a freaken Sky God.

I got NIN to 75 and basically just merited for the longest time til I could finally tank in sky. (RDM mainlol) First few 'big' things I ever tanked were Seiryu > Suzy > Byakko. Suzy/Seiryu were fun, and I was wtfscared for Byakko. Came up, I didn't die, and I felt it was much easier than what I was thinking it would be.

I have a very nice Haste set, even nicer since that kitty dropped his pants for me, and decent Enmity. I'd go Enmity, DMG Reduction, and Haste, and macro whatever you need in, for whatever you are doing, etc.

Anyone tried throwing a BRD/BLM at him?
I'm wondering if SV+ES+Troubadour+Elegy sticks, should last the entire fight.

Pescatora is a nice, though expensive, food option as well.

Re: Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

I've solo tanked Byakko plenty of times. Solo tanking can work, but the whms work a little harder. Once we got another Galka nin as good (prolly better) than me we can duo tank byakko like.... without ever getting hit. It's pretty sick. Don't need any whm's.

When I first started tanking byakko I didn't have swift belt, and I just went full Arhat's +1 (Head, Body, Legs) and earth staff, jelly ring, BQ rings, HP earrings, happy egg, Eva Torque, high breath mantle, warwolf belt, etc. You take more hits, but with Pescatora (Pescatora is much better than tacos IMO) they're for like 60 damage. -40% Physical damage is good if you're not gonna be getting shadows up quick enough, which is tough with kitty.

After getting some better gears i just wear Arhat's +1 body. Then stack haste. Turban/Haidate/Swift/Dusk. Double Mambo from a bard and you're golden, should be np. With galka HP it's just not a hard fight at all, you can let 2 claw cyclones through and still have 25% health. Anyways.... just my n00b take on the fight.

Kitty isn't hard, but DON'T stack Evasion, it's really dumb. Eva is nice, and you'll evade more, but it's not consistent, and all at takes is 1 series of good hits to take you down. A dead tank is no good.

Re: Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

Generally, I tank Byakko as NIN/DRK, but /WAR is fine. Its just easier to not worry about hate as /DRK. As /DRK I go with this:

    Main: Earth Staff
    Ranged: Ungur Boomerang
    Head: W. Turban
Neck: Evasion Torque (too lazy to spend on Harmonia Torque)
    Earring: Loquacious Earring
    Earring: Eris Earring
    Body: Arhats +1
Hands: Koga Tekko or Dusk Gloves.
    Ring: Bomb Queen Ring
    Ring: Mermaid's Ring
    Back: High Breath Mantle
    Waist: Swift Belt
    Legs: Byakko's Haidate
    Feet: Fuma Sune-ate

If you are going /WAR I usually give up some haste for more HP and Defense so with Defender I can take a hit or two. Food is generally Carbonara for the HP bonus.

Either way, don't have your stunners randomly stun (as suggested above), have them stun after Diaga and Banishga which are usually too fast to stun. It give you a second to get shadows back up. As much as people brag, tanking Byakko even with the best tank can be a crap shoot. A triple attack then a Claw Cyclone can put down anyone, no matter how good they are.

Brd/blm, Troubadour + Elemental Seal + carnage elegy

Usually dies 2-3 minutes before elegy wears if you have an ally.

Maybe my LS is different than most, but we almost always spawn 2-3 gods per event so we have people coming as normal job combos... and honestly just coming /BLM for one ES is a waste on a mob that spams Paralyze.

If you have a RDM to spare with Capped Slow II Merits they can /blm get Etudes and use a full MND setup with ES to really slow him down.

I did it a while back and along with Elegy from the BRD you could really notice the slow effect.

Where is this talk of using double mambo on byakko coming from? The tanks asked me to do that last time to see if it did anything and it did shit for them so they had me go back to my normal marchx2.
double march on the tanks and wear 15% haste in gear to max out recast. Then basically pile on the emnity and damage reduction gear to whatever degree you need. Everything else you shoulda already know as a ninja.

Two Nin/Drks and having stunners go after Diaga and Banishga and tank danger. Byakko will just sit there doing nothing stunned for stretches lasting almost as long as 10 seconds sometimes.

Re: Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

The absolute best way to tank Byakko is in full-on evasion gear with double Mambo. He misses about 60% of the time with a maxed out EVA build. Usually I end up with a co-tank who is either a PLD or has an incomplete evasion setup, so I go to the standard Arhat's/enmity build, but evasion tanking him is more effective.

Re: Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

Byakko's isnt really an HNM i dont think, but anyways, NIN/WAR should be fine for Byakko make sure you are balencing hate between you and the other tank. As far as gear goes...really depends on what gear you have, dont waste any slots also put either haste or emn or hp in all slots.

On a side note, Byakko can fuck you up really fast if you arn't paying attention and have hate. You can always just be gimp as hell and pretend to tank but that's no fun!
