Re: Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

Evasion tanking is absolutely the best way to tank Byakko, I agree with Weeks.

However, when I used to tank him I did it with 2x BRD, dual mambos and dual marches. I wore Fuma Sune-Ate, Byakko's Haidate, and Swift Belt for my Haste, and threw on a bunch of Evasion skill gear for the rest. Osode on the body piece to mitigate all of the light add effects for when he does hit me, and 2x Katana because I was badass like that. Sushi ftw. There was no Walahra Turban.

    Let's see...

    Senjuiniriko
    Fudo
    Ungur Boomerang
    Optical Hat
    Evasion Torque
    Melody Earring +1
    Melody Earring +1
    Kirin's Osode
    Praefectus Gloves (sp?)
    Bomb Queen Ring
    Bloodbead Ring
    Boxer's Mantle
    Swift Belt
    Byakko's Haidate
    Fuma Sune-Ate

That sounds right. Like Weeks said, you'll evade over half his hits and it turns Triple Attack into a puss, especially since with March x2 and Haste combined with a little bit of Haste gear, you're already at cap.

You're a fucking NIN, not a PLD. Start acting like it.

    nin/drk or nin/war

I find that on the 4 'lesser' gods /war works just fine

    haste->emnity->-phsy dam->whatever

I really have to disagree w/ going w/ evasion set up. I just think that a + emnity - phsy damage set up is just more effective. But as many have said- Shit is situational- and I would add that it also depends on your style and what your group is use to.

To me- its all about the support you have. If your whm's or sunners are out smoking a joint or whatever- your toast. If they are paying attention to the situation- you'll be fine.

Re: Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

as a support job at many a byakko, smoothest tanking I've ever seen of the kitty was from a NIN/DRK. No questions asked. Can't really add any specifics that the actual NINs are adding, but did want to say that if given the option of different tanks brought to the table, NIN/DRK on this fight wins by a mile and a half.

BTW, it was his first God tanking experience as our shell is addicted to PLD/NINs (of which we have 3 very solid ones), and he didn't have his haidate yet to boot. With the right gear and support, its a cakewalk. Biggest thing is having at least a few people in the support line of things who know what to expect (hi2u paralyna the instant you're hit with paralyze, and knowing to expect at least one bad triple attack->claw cyclone needing curebombing and stuns). Combine knowledgable support who know how to treat a NIN/DRK (if I have to scream at another newbie RDM in the tank party who forgets to refresh a NIN/DRK I'm gonna gouge my eyes out with a sharpie marker) with you (the NIN/DRK) knowing how to tank and gear up, and have fun.

Re: Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

EVA tank on Byakko is NOT the way to go. Unless you're relying on /thf melees to feed hate to your ass, there's no way you'll come even close to a damage mitigation/haste/enmity nin setup. It's inane to even think it.

Evasion tanking died years ago for a reason.

EDIT: Well, fine, it does have 2 uses. Charbydis & that one Charby-wannabe on the ship to Nashmau.

Nin/drk or /war both work fine with haste, enmity, -phys, and hp. Evasion tanking by piling on tons of it also works well for instances where your low manning Byakko or without a multitude of jobs on. Many shells no longer need to have massive alliances and outside support groups for simple sky god runs.

Byakko not that bad, been done by WAR/NIN as well. Just need a good haste setup, preferably having dual BRD's and a good WHM set. Like other's said, for NIN -dmg%, haste, hp. Dual tanking is good (as you said you were doing) and having good melee to support you helps as well.

Re: Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

Actually there are a lot of ways to go about Byakko. Depending on your LS, amount of Stunners, if you're Solo Tanking or Co-Tanking.

If you have access to two brds you can go a full out evasion set up and get hit probably bout 1 every 3 hits. Getting Double March and Double Mambo. This way you can easily Solo tank. Another thing that is helpful is having a smn or two if possible. One for Stoneskin the other for Fenrir. This set up makes him really easy to solo tank.

If you have access to one brd go with physical down gear. Get HP gear where you cant and macro in some haste for Shadow casting. Byakko doesn't hit very hard to begin with. As long as a ranger has stuck a wind he's really no problem. Eating Tacos helps also of course.

Subjob is up to you. Subbing drk is just wonderful and random stuns from the tanks can cut out a lot of the TP attacks. Not to mention the amount of hate you'll generate and mages can kinda go balls to the wall and have fun.

About the Brd/Blm thing. I always go Brd/Blm to sky when fighting Gods. I don't care if it's for Byakko, Genbu or even Kirin. Elemental Seal will make the Elegy Resist VERY Low. Coupled with a Troubadour it should stick the entire fight. Our Byakko's last anywhere from 3-5 minutes.

The most important thing however will be your Mages. If your stunners can keep an order. And your erasers keep Dia and paralyze off you soon as it lands. As stated having summoners to help with certain Blood Pacts is nice as well. We've killed Byakko with a War/Nin solo tanking. Honestly I think Genbu tends to kill more tanks than Byakko does. Maybe that's just us.

Re: Neenja Tank on Big Kitty

Bah, you ppl and your shadows.

I still tank as pld/war. The best blink tankers can go down in seconds. pld/nin is ok too i guess. I'd still rather have voke for short fights though.

Im on board with have a stun rotation rather then having 4 blms simutanisly (sp?) cast stun after razor fang/cyclone claw.
The old school AA & Stun rotation method is still a safe, proven method.

I think we can all agree on making sure a dispelling wind is used at the start. It will make any tank's job eaiser.

bah fax beat me to saying "dont forget to use wind!!!!"

2 brds in tank party is really overkill if that means other dd party not getting a brd. faster you kill any mob the less you gotta worry bout tanking.

There's a few situations where I use evasion builds for NIN tanking, but I've typically always gone the def/vit route in Sky. Reason being that against a mob like Byakko, an unlucky triple-cyclone will destroy you faster than many people can react. You can cut the per-hit damage from him way down with a good setup, giving your healers more than enough time to keep you up.

Plus Zip hitting me for ~80 a shot (when he hits me) is funny.

Proto-Ultima and Proto-Omega though, evasion wtfpwns these guys. I've had Ultima miss me 10+ times in a row with Kurayami on him, and evading Pile Pitch two or three times in a fight is just amusing. But I typically have an oshit macro ready to go with all my def/vit gear in case my shadows get owned.

Yeah, what is up with Proto-Omega? With just standard debuffs he misses 1/3 with full def/-dmg.

Just a general question, do most people save up gems and do them all on one day or do you spawn gods everyday?

Oooh, nice comback, the Zam one. Actually, evasion tanking Shijin is a zam-setup. And it IS a bad idea. All of the slots you have to sacrifice for EVA gear, you could have defense/enmity gear in, allowing you the same (if not more) survivability, and better hate generation/holding. Trying to hold hate on Byakko through provoke and Katana damage is just retarded.

And for the record, I've killed Byakko with 13. We used 2 NIN/DRKs, went beaaautifully. Evasion setups are not smart for low-man, unless you want an unlucky triple attack + Diaga + WS move to wipe your tank, and then mass death & bind recovery.

That I did not know, I'd like to try that out sometime. I've always vit/def/phys%- tanked those two.

Wow 13, you feel special? I've solo tanked him as NIN/WAR in a 7 man alliance with few damage dealers, and it was a pure evasion setup. I don't even feel special about it because evasion tanking hard things on NIN is really just how it's supposed to be done in the first place. Level PLD if you wanna take less damage and go PLD/NIN, you get more hate anyway. Diaga -> Triple Attack -> WS doesn't happen because after Diaga he gets stunned, and after Triple Attack he gets stunned, so that WS has no chance of killing you since you'll have shadows long up by then. In 1400 HP, it takes the full aforementioned including a critical hit on the WS to actually kill me. Some shitty stunners if that kills you. Sure, it's happened to all of us, dead from some bad luck on Byakko, but the chance is a lot lower if you're not spamming him with even more TP than he already regains.

No, I don't feel particularly special about my accomplishments in sky, just saying, I don't do Byakko with 18+.

Going to have to agree to disagree on this, EVA tanking is much less safe in my opinion, but it's hardly provable, and the pointless bickering is a real waste of both of our time.
