Eva tanking can obviously work...... but like it's been stated.... it's just much less reliable. You need more reliable stuns and faster cures (if you get caught without shadows). You're arguing for Eva tanking (which apparently SE designed nin for, whatever that proves), but you haven't said anything that proves Def gear is any less awesome. I barely get caught with shadows down and if I ever take damage it's for like 40. I don't see why anyone would go for Eva tanking unless it's chary. I'm pretty sure it's more expensive as well.

It's like arguing Fuma boots Vs. Dune boots for Monk. Fuma boots aren't BAD, they work, but Dune boots are better.....

Just do what Ruke does, that's my philosophy (his livejournal = nin bible)

It really isn't any less reliable though, and it's great for solo tanking when you need to last longer. It's also not more expensive, because you don't need to buy HQ gears like Arhat's Gi +1 and I dunno whatever else you guys get. XD NQ Melody Earrings really work just fine.

I somehow can't quite see how a solo tanking NIN who doesn't evade much can always keep shadows up on a mob like Byakko. It's the same concept as Charybdis: he hits hard and fast/lots at a time, so adapt to the situation, don't take his hits. With Elegy and Slow II on, Charybdis takes a good 12-14? seconds to get to his next attack round, which leaves plenty of room for a DMG reduction setup. Why not use it there?

Anyway, I kinda agree with Yutuyu now, the argument is kinda silly because both setups work out about the same. It's more whether you want to be a make-shift PLD (PLD tanks Byakko a lot better in fast fights, for the record), or a NIN.

Just gotta really keep an eye on his WS, since an unlucky triple followed by WS or just a crit WS that goes through can really rip you a new one.

I think I've taken like ~900ish damage Claw Cyclone from him with -40% damage reduction.

Yeah it is a silly argument. I just like thinking that my way is better. To each his own, as long as you can make it work properly. I just don't like people who buy a Scorpion harness and wear Suppa + Minuet Earrings and NQ Amemet and are like "HAY GUYS I CAN TANK BYAKKO NOWZ!" Doesn't work that way, you really gotta invest in your style, and not like 100000mil gil, but just get the gears you need to do it, and stop being lazy.

You do realize that, in the course of about 25 words, you have completely contradicted yourself, right?

Byakko may be easy, but it's definitely not a short fight. Even when he goes smoothly, it still takes a good few minutes. And if you're entire support crew doesn't show up that day, everyone else will be glad you subbed ninja.

Ok genius, "a good few mins" is still a pretty fucking short fight. you fail...again
Secondly, why in the fuck would anyone risk losing pop items by poping gods without enough ppl?
