    Direct 3D Issues.

Hey guys, just got my new Pc, yes its running vista. Anyway, everything is up to date but here is the error that I am getting.

    http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/1807/polerrortq9.jpg

Now heres the funny thing everything was working until I attempted to change the resolution in the FFXI Config box. So I'm not sure what the problem is. The cards are Nvidia 8600 GTS x2. Any help at all would be really appreciated. The vista version is the 32 bit version, sorry if there was already a topic for this but hopefully someone will be able to help me out.

    Do you have DirectX installed?

Try grabbing a version of 3danalyze and making the .exe think that you have a lower version of direct x, might work.

*facepalm* there's your problem. Double check your resolution. It's prolly set to some odd resolution your monitor can't do.

Even after they were set to the defaults they did not work. I'm going to be trying the other suggestion. I'm reinstalling the pol version aswell before doing anything else.

I installed the POL version for vista from the website first. Then I installed the three cds.

Fallso I'm unfamiliar with that program. I downloaded it and I am not quite sure how to make it work. Would you be able to just roughly guide how I would go about that?

    Re: Direct 3D Issues.

    Right ok.

Step 1) For the hook DLL path, select your FFXI folder (where the pol.exe is)
Step 2) For the exe, select "ffxi.exe"
Step 3) Leave Pre Run exe blank.

Step 4) Tick all of the boxes under "Hardware Limits (cap bits)" and "Hardware Limits (features)"

God willing if I remembered this correctly, when you click run down at the bottom, it should run ffxi and make it think you have directx9.

If that doesn't work..take a look at this site: http://www.s0nicfreak.net/ffxitnl/

It's for the TnL caps problem but should be helpful in some way.

open the run thing and run dxdiag, then go to the video section and test direct 3d. It should give you some information on what's wrong with direct 3d and 3d draw etc...Something might not be set up right, or something from the driver didn't get installed right.

That's the other option, check drivers. 8600 has can do TnL.

    Re: Direct 3D Issues.

Ok well after just playing around for a few hours I some how managed to get the game to operate and it works perfectly now. Since the windower forums seem to be a waste of time I'll ask here and at least get an answer maybe. I can run the Windower-lite version on my pc now, but when I use the full version of the latest release it will shrink to a box about one inch in size into the top left of my pc. Then it will simply freeze there and I'm unable to open it.

why are you recommending 3danalyze, it is a wrapper for video cards that don't have T&L, He has a Nvidia 8600 which has it.

He said he had vista, which I would assume he doesnt have updated drivers. Chanes are he is using the ones that come with vista which are generic.

I remember on some versions of 3danalyze they had a option to make an application think you had a different video card..thought that might've solved it if it was graphic card dependant and not directx.
