I live in Texas, and the prices you guys were talking about for steaks astound me.
Things are so different where I live. Maybe the steaks aren't "good" or whatever, but I'm no steak expert so I wouldn't know.

But seriously the price the guy was paying in the OP is slightly lower than what I'd pay at a place near my house that has a similar "contest".
They refund your cash, give a shirt... a ticket for a free burger and they put your name on their "wall of fame".

Two words; Texas sucks. It is full of wannabe Cowboys, Chamillionaire and fans that still talk about how good the fucking Cowboys were about 10-15 years ago. Lived in Houston and Corpus Christi so I know first hand.

Now that I've got that out of the way, lets talk about Steaks. I'd have to agree with Skur on this one, I used to live in St. Louis and traved to Nebraska, Iowa and the regional Midwest quite a bit for school and work related purposes and the steaks there are Godly, to be modest. I am a "Black and Blue" T-Bone and Porterhouse type of man; the bloodier the better imo. I am no steak aficionado by any means, but I know a good steak when I eat one. The Midwest wins hands down.

Yeah, it was ridiculous. We went for my buddys birthday. We didn't finish it all but we tried. I had to walk out bending over because I couldn't stand up straight. All in all was really good food and not too expensive. Was $200 for 8 of us and it included 2 x 120oz steaks, 2 huge bowls of house potatoes(onions and peppers mixed in) and a couple pitchers of beer.

Not really, it's just the constant and non-stop "Don't mess with Texas", "Everything's bigger in Texas"
Toby Keith in EVERY commercial for anything Texas blah blah blah. It just got redundant and incredibly tiresome to tell you the truth. So it wasn't someone per se as much as it was the culture.

In Texas it like every 3rd sentence includes the word "Texas". Extremely narcissistic to be completely honest. It is like hearing someone at school or work talk about how "The Todd" scored last night or what "The Todd" did this yesterday or last weekend, you know what I mean. When you are at home today, doing nothing more than watching TV, count how many times you hear it and you will see what I mean. I think the residents there are just completely jaded to it, but people not from there notice it.

The people and the food are all around nice, but the culture of Texas or Die is made of fail sauce.
