    Smithing furniture question...

Currently I have my moghouse set up so I can switch between two overwhelming elements and my Moghancement: Smithing, depending on what I want to do. The two I switch between are fire and lightning. I used to do a lot of desynthing and the desynt moghancment really helped. I also noticed that when I was skilling up on fire crystals and I put my moghancement to Fire I enjoyed more skillups (no evidence to back this up, but I continue to do it and it works for me).

More recently however, I have been trying to get my first HQ Haubergeon. Currently I'm lvl 89 with all my Smithing stuff and cloth is up to 60. Since I haven't attempted HQing very many things with an earth crystal I began to wonder if just having the lightning furniture in my moghouse (even though its not "active" during my synth) is effecting my results.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Current MH set up is:
    51 TaruStools for lightning/desynth
    16 or 17 cupboards for fire/smithing
    3 or 4 bookshelves for fire/smithing
    Anvil for Smithing

(Clearly I don't use my MH for items everything is in storage.)

mog:crystal doesn't affect anything except for material loss when breaking a synth.
mog:craftskill only serves to increase your effective skill by 1
    overwhelming/powerful/faint energy has no effect

Just as a clarification for someone who knows very little about the specifics of crafting, when you say "overwhelming/powerful/faint has no effect" do you mean that there's no difference in the effects between the three? Or that there is no effect whatsoever beyond their being necessary to receive the appropriate moghancement?

There is no difference in effect between the 3. The only thing that counts is whether you have the Moghancement:fdsfgs key item

Hmm...I knew that it effected material loss, but I never did consider if overwhelming/faint/ect. really had an effect till today while I was posting this question. Aurik you seem pretty credible from what I've read around here, and it backs up what I was expecting to hear anyway.

Well I guess I can free up some of my Mog House space! I've had that stuff for years and its just a cluttered mess!

Sorry I worded my question poorly, so I can't figure what you meant in your answer haha. What I mean to ask is, say you have earth energy (faint/powerful/overwhelming, whatever), but with Moghancement: Gardening, then you're saying that doesn't do shit for earth synth, right?

Right. The only thing that matters is what moghancement you have.

Thanks for the clarification. I recently began crafting again seriously for the first time in two and a half years, and reading these forums it's like "throw out the old dogmas, everything you thought you knew is wrong" lol

    Re: Smithing furniture question...

I don't think there's really much evidence to say that Moghancement: (element) is or is not strengthened by overwhelming energy. Personally, I have tried to get 101+ energy with earth and then proceeded to do some synths that were 15 over my skill cap and tested it out some, and I lost about 60% of my materials on average every break, but merely anecdotal at best, as I didn't do enough testing to prove anything. However, overwhelming on your Moghancement: (craft) does indeed do absolutely nothing as far as giving you additional skill. I have proved that in another thread here somewhere recently.

are there uses for overwhelming energy outside of crafting? (like, does it serve any game purpose at all?)

None that I know of. I can't recall any tests which has ever shown a difference between overwhelming & faint. I think it just checks your key items for the presence of a moghancement, and doesn't check the actual strength ever.
