Totally agree... did you beat it yet? the ending is just as good IMO. Not to mention the extremely well-written/translated dreams.Originally Posted by Vinen
Naah, about to enter the final dungeon. Will beat it when I get home from work tonight or tomorrow.Originally Posted by Exoduso

Why did the immortals come to the world in the first place. Was their mission... did they ever mention it?
Sequel here we come?Originally Posted by Vinen
One can only hope... they certainly left things open..
also: they could do something about the whole Seth/Gongora going back to their own world thing, it would be interesting to see if Seth ever makes it back or if the immortals ever make it back to the opposite side, or what Gongora is up to and if he's still trying to come back to the human world.
BTW, there's some little voice recorder thing you can listen to in CD4 in Gongora's basement (gotta go all the way to his study and beat some silly little fight first, then it's on the left on some purple pod).. it basically talks about how they came to the world and what their mission was, so they DO briefly touch on it.. it's kind of vague though, especially since it's in Gongora's basement and not everybody thinks about going there a 2nd time. (you have to go west from the main hall of his house, there's a royal seal there... once you remove it there are stairs to the basement, go all the way to the east to get to his study and that scene is there..)
That would depend on the emotion, I guess.
I feel like a nerd for saying it, but as much as I *thought* I considered "cute" characters no more than an annoyance in most games, Nintendogs "immersion" tugged at my soft spot for RL dogs pretty strongly.
I also remember being pretty sad in Dragon Warrior 4 at the beginning of the Hero's quest since his whole village sacrificed themselves to protect him (including his lover, who used Transform to turn into a copy of him and fool the monsters into thinking he was killed. You could also be a female with the male lover getting killed.) Walking through the destroyed town and out of the mountains alone after that was...pretty epic for me, at about 11. To this day I still remember it pretty well.
LO was pretty good also, and Earthbound! (I lost quite a bit til I found out the only way to win at the end, and that blew my mind, especially because of the name I put in.)
I haven't played the game but reading this reminds me of Assassin's Creed, play the entire game but learn almost nothing about the story of whats going on.Originally Posted by Vinen
Assassin's Creed is getting 2 more sequels, so everything will eventually be answered.
As far as LO goes? it does kind of explain it, it just doesn't dive deep enough... hopefully with the numbers LO has been getting they'll consider making a sequel for it (and seeing how they already announced Blue Dragon 2, which did considerably worse than Lost Odyssey, there's no reason for an LO2 to not show up eventually... whether or not it'll be a whole new story or not is a different question though, i'd love seeing a direct sequel to Kaim's story though.)
Blue Dragon was wicked fun, but it felt kinda... year 2000 user friendly, just seemed like there could have been more to it.
A little depressed to only see one Planescape: Torment reference (props, Eterius), but happy to see at least a COUPLE of PC games.
What can change the nature of a man?
PS:T definitely had me by the throat the whole way through (and still does; I still can't bring myself to play through the evil paths because I just can't bring myself to betray any of my --- waaiiit a sec, I just realized I could totally sell Ignus into slavery. Maybe I will be Evil next time...
Anyways. Just some incredible storytelling, the way TNO deals with his past selves (especially once you get to the Sensatorium? wooo), and everything with Ravel. Nordom was a great character, and for being introduced so late still had 400 times the character development of all of the characters in CC combined.
Even in the beginning, they start hitting you with the betrayed and oh-so-patient dead love...
I will wait for you in death's halls, my love...
Soul Reaver 2 gets no love? ;_;
I'll be surprised if anyone else here has played this, but the PS2 game "Rule of Rose" is by far the single most hauntingly powerful game I've ever played in terms of its story. The actual gameplay is horrible, and it wasn't released in quite a few countries due to its sexual undertones (an unjustified criticism, in my opinion).
It's fairly obvious that the game's creators were essentially trying to create a sort of interactive movie rather than a videogame as such, evident by the beautifully tragic and deeply layered storyline coupled with the truly magnificent score. If anyone's seen that recent movie "The Orphanage", it definitely has elements of that in it, although RoR is aimed more at telling a heartbreaking story rather than a chilling one.
Here's a couple of excerpts from the game's music:

They pretty much embody the mood of the game, extremely dark and melancholic. I initially fell in love with the game because of this music in the initial trailers. I'd recommend this game to anyone that's prepared to slog through less than ten hours of rather shitty gameplay for a fantastic story.
Kingsfield Series, nuff said.
Xenogears
followed by games that had music that really touched me at the same time as an 'attempting to be really emotional dealing with teamwork' story event. -.-
Yeah, Xenogears is always a hard one to top.
You'd be hard pressed to find something that tops it... there's a reason why I haven't played Xenogears twice. I don't want to spoil the memories from playing it the first time. There's shit in that game you can actually take and apply to your real life, it's like, wtf.Originally Posted by Mizango

Nothing trumps Xenogears story. period. The only game that I felt was ever close to the notch that Xenogears held was Chrono Trigger and that was still a bit behind.
I'm glad someone mentioned Phantasy Star II. It's stayed at the top of my list for the longest time now. The death of Nei was one of those, "Noooooooooooooooooooo! You bitch! You bitch!" moments. Phantasy Star IV came pretty close to that when Alys dies.
Other games:
Lost Odyssey
Final Fantasy IV
Xenogears
Xenosaga sans 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
Final Fantasy Tactics
Chrono Trigger
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Shining Force
