Yeah... graphics in FF7 killed it for me after comming from FF8 & 9. haha...
I thought FF8 was the best, graphic's wide, FF game for the PS1. Well... FF9's models looked much better, but the way FF8 streamed CG's into the background, as you played the game, was amazing to me. It's a feature I wish more games took advantage of.

You know when I think about it, that might be the main reason why I hated FF12 so much. I mean it's fun to play and everything, but it just didn't feel like FF to me... I wish Square went back to the format (and by format I mean turn-based, random encounters, epic boss fight music, and great storylines to boot) they used for FF8/9, definitely my favorite games in the series (post-SNES games that is... FF4 and 6 are the shit <3.)

For me, FF6 and beyond have all been top notch fun and quality no matter what new battle systems they've experimented with.

Personally, I'm hoping for another dramatic change in the battle system. I'm liking the real time approach to the newer RPGs as well. Turn-based random encounters are archaic now. Yea it was fun when we first tried it, but video games are constantly evolving into better things. In FF12 you could choose your level of involvement from battle to battle, a step in the right direction imo.

Try looking at each new FF as a completely different game from their predecessors.

Oh I hear ya, I just like being nostalgic I guess heh. I really enjoyed Persona 3, and that was turn based...

I agree that i'd like to see a new battle system with each FF though, but tbh that has been the trend more or less. Sure, they were all turn-based up until FF11, but each introduced a different way of learning skills/magic/etc., as well as gear so that was always refreshing.

I wouldn't mind seeing real-time battles in FF13 as well, as long as they drastically change the approach from FF12. I keep going back to it and I know other people here loved it, so i'm not trying to change anybody's mind here... but for me, the gambit system killed the game. Even if it means spamming X for 2 mins to win a fight, i'm still inputing the commands. When everything becomes automatic (with the exception of running around), it kind of kills the experience for me. With that said, every time I pop FF12 in and start playing it I really enjoy the gambit system IN THE BEGINNING... as the game progresses and you obtain some broken spells though, the game just becomes too robotic and automatic. Yes, it was a step in the right direction, but I hope they can find a way to incorporate Lost Odyssey's battle system into real time (they did say that the battle system in 13 would be to input commands and then watch them play out, and LO basically does that, only it's turn-based rather than active, real time gameplay.

Re: Most Powerful game you have ever played

After having dealt with the relentless grind of MMORPGs, playing FF 8 is alot less painful, especially once you realize you can mostly just Card mod and refine items to fill out your spell catalog instead of endless drawing.

I've been replaying all the PS1 Final Fantasys on my PSP for the last 2 or so months, currently finishing off the "main" 3 with 8. The translation feels a bit rough by todays standards, but the story is really far and away superior to the stories presented in the other games imo. Squall is an annoying bastard (though he gets better once you hit disc 3 and he grows a heart), but the relationships and feelings between all the characters is great stuff.

It's amazing how nobody seems to realize this. I haven't played in a long time, but IIRC the only spells that can't be convienently carded to 100 are Ultima, Aura, and maybe Triple. Every time I played through, I was pretty much done with Drawing by the time Squall joins SeeD.

Yup. Then again I played FF8 like 6 times.

Triple is actually pretty easy. You only need to draw about maybe 10 or so per character off of Cerberus when you fight him, then you can do a sidequest during Disc 3 + Card Mod the Quistis card (worth 180 Triples) to fill out the remaining ones you need.

Who gives a shit about Triple?
    Honestly, who even uses it?

Only spells worth casting in FF8 are Meltdown and Aura, everything else is a waste of time.
I might be remembering incorrectly, but I also think there's better spells to junction to each stat too...

Wouldn't Haste be better for junctioning for speed? Pretty sure I junctioned Haste to speed and had Auto-Haste on one of my characters for SUPER SPEED! Though it's been a while since I last played 8.

Edit: Triple is only fun for really really really long spell animations. I remember triple casting apocalyspe while I went downstairs to get a drink and some crisps, came back up and the spell hadn't even come close to finishing.

Hated that spell for one damn reason. Whenever I'd play the game with my friend and either of us casted that, he'd yell "KAMEHAMEHAAAAA!" EVERY FUCKING TIME.

Why would you cast Meltdown when you can just cast Doomtrain?

That train has got to be the dumbest summon in all of FF.

My friend used to say "STOP I'm approaching my limit break!" Every time he was touched for whatever reason.

Final fantasy tactics guys.. Most BAMF game ever..
I mean, at that point when you make an O SHI- moment by saving your only file at the end where you can't go back, and then suddenly you gotta fight on this badass boat, and you're like "holy shit it's Alma don't kill her" and you gotta fight this crazy bitch and she scares the crap out of you if you're like 14 years old at the time. Of course I had a whole team of Knight's (WAR'S) with the dual wield ability (/nin) and they were all pimped out with excalibur's (Haidate's) she went down fast. But anyways back to my point~ that game had such a badass storyline and I got so wrapped up in it when the princess gets stabbed at the end

    On a side note~ I LOVED Xenosaga 1, but I QQ'ed over the no real reward from my save file, and I'm like half the way through the game in XenoSaga 2 and have no real will to finish it. Hearing that 3 kicks ass makes me sad that I'll never finish 2 to play it ; ;
