Most Powerful game you have ever played

Ico (though most people have never played or even heard of it)
and the second game made by that same company,
Shadow of the Colossus.

Killer 7 was pretty intense also. Especially one you got to the hotel and (sort of)found out what is really going on.

(I understand none of these are RPG, however neither is MGS3...)

I liked FFT's story, and the ending, how all was moved, the different plots within plots that occured, so many times I just wondered, wtf couldn't Delita join me again! lol it was definately my favorite game when I first got it, and still is to this day.

Suikoden 1 was great, it was sad what happened to Odessa (poor Flik - Suiko 2 did great for him, in that they constantly kept his love for her even after all those years), the main char McDohl, what he went through with Gremio, if you saved him great! if not, either way it was sad, to have to fight his father too, and for him to say he was proud but died..man; and in the ending with Victor and Flik staying back like that...

Suiko 2 was great from the start, to see Victor and Flik again just reinforced just how cool those two chars where, the other returning chars as well made it good, but the story, the villain Luca Blight, and other things in it made it epic, from Nanami's "death" to the struggles and leading to having to fight your best friend had me wishing my guys didnt have to fight at all, lol. The last dungeon was awesome too, with facing Han and having him die like that, then Culgan and Seed (I felt really really sad about these three guys, they were loyal to the end, just wish they were on my side, lol). Getting the best ending made it all worth it, to just go back on the road with Nanami and Jowy was amazing for the end.

Suiko 3 was bittersweet to see a few chars come back and parts of it that made me miss S2 (Star Dragon Sword referring to Viktor made me QQ), seeing Bright and Futch and they talk about Humphrey as well made me just play S2 again before I finished S3, lol. And to find at the end, how Luc went so delusional but it made me sad too that he went out that way.

S 5 was great too, it gave that background I always fucking wondered about Georg Prime (he was awesome in S2 as well, so mysterious, lol) and well...others went into detail about it also, just was great, reminded me why I loved the Suikoden games (S4 could barely be counted as much of a good story and was a let down in comparison to the others).

Hmmm im shocked noone said MGS, that situation where Meryl was hit by sniper fox, and you had to save her? or the ending, it was "moving". i loved suikoden too. And oooo ICO i loved that game, it felt like another Prince of Persia kinda huh?

also, Oblivion(started playing it recently) FF7, FF9, FF10 and Broken Sword. That game has its own class imo.

I remember that Jack was one of the largest assholes ever witnessed in an RPG. He rivals Yuri from SH. Other then that I remember the game not being that great.

Hmm. Valkyrie Profile was a fantastic game. Everytime you recruited a new person you got to see what happened to them. Usually pretty tragic. Still nothing was as rough as watching Loki kill Lucan in that game.

Metal Gear Solid. The sniper rifle showdown with Sniper Wolf out in the snow. The first time you fight Psycho Mantis with some other save profile in the game where he mentions what you've been playing.

The entire ending of Legend of the Dragoon.

In Shadow of the Colossus, the first time you see the first boss and realize, oh shit I have to kill that?

I consider MGS 1-3 to be the best games I've ever played. I enjoy the great storyline(s), characters, villains (although I prefer the foxhound unit much more than Dead Cell or the Cobra unit) and I really also like how creative Kojima's team can be. (ie. Meryl's codec frequency on the back of the CD case, Colonel's "I want scissors 61!" rant.) Not to mention the ending of MGS3 is my all time favourite and all the events leading up to it were some of the most fun I've had in a videogame ever.

As far as emotionally gripping games go, two come to mind:

Ace Combat 5 is one. Without giving anything away, mission 17 "The Journey Home" made me bawl.

And the other is definitely Homeworld. Those of you who have played it know exactly what I'm talking about and are probably crying at your computer all over again.

I guess I'm a bit surprised at how few PC games are on this list; almost everything is JP RPGs. (Though considering the basis of this forum, our sample is probably a little bit biased.)

Homeworld was just amazing. Probably the best game manual I've ever seen, the thing was like 50-60 pages and almost all of it was story background and extended information on all the units. The presentation of the game world and how the designers immersed you in the culture of the Kushan people on their journey to Hiigara was fantastic.

My most recent fix with Mass Effect has led me to feel that the connection the player creates between him or herself and their avatar Shepard really surprised me. I honestly can't even imagine any other way Shepard would look or act other than the way I played him on my first run through.

We get that you like Mass Effect... but for some of us, jrpgs have a more lasting impact than those open-world western rpgs. (and yes, I actually tried giving Mass Effect a shot but the storyline was way too boring and shepard's lines fell too scripted for my tastes... it just felt like the VA was reading shit from a piece of paper rather than actually trying to act the part.)

Still entitled to my opinion the last time I checked.
