Most Powerful game you have ever played

Bah, maybe I'll just watch cutscenes/stuff from EP1 and play EP2 before getting to 3, that way I'll be positive I haven't missed anything awesome/important in terms of story.

If you can get a deal like this, it's probably worth the investment. Game is pretty short (25hours) if you rush through the main quest only, 40h if you do all 3 bonus dungeon, most secret bosses and the annoying GS subquests. It's the worst game out of the 3, but it still had some good point really. It just feel empty compared to other ps2 rpg

The main reason why people hated it is the lack of answer to episode 1 question. When you wait 1year½ for a sequel, and have to wait another 1½year for the conclusion, you expect more answerz and some sort of progress. However, there was very little progress in that direction, it was mostly about past event and character backstory. Doesnt really apply when Ep3 is sitting right next to your ps2 tho.

Cutscenes in XS1 and 2 (ESPECIALLY IN 2) are much better actually viewing than reading about them in the database of XS3... that's just my opinion though. The experience just isn't the same.

EP 2 isn't hard to find in the UK, I just don't wanna spend upwards of £50 importing an average game just for the cutscenes. But I'm sure I can find a used copy of EP2 for like £5, so I'll probably play that through. How hard is it getting to grips with EP2 after only watching EP1 cutscenes?

You will be fine if you dont mind weird transition between cutscenes (gameplay and boss fight add nice pause). Ep1 cutscene were probably the most complete out of the 3, and you can pretty much see everything only watching them.

Vandal Hearts II. Played it, got the "bad ending" and just wow. So much heartache going on there. Very good game so I won't spoil what exactly happens.

Bad thing though, I looked up in guides what you have to do to avoid the bad ending, it's pretty extreme/obscure.

lol, seriously. There are so many endings based on who lives / dies... etc.. And some of the choices are like o.o;;; ESP the one that deals with the main female character.

Really? I thought that was incredibly cheesy and painful to watch. The song isn't bad (JP/ENG is actually pretty good) but the context it's sung in is awful.

You see, I felt very differently from the way you describe it. It was very heart wrenching to watch that whole "awww, they're in love so much, and now death." Yes, I didn't just describe it very well, but the way the song went with that amazing transition to the world of Lenne and whoever that guy is and their death scene was amazing.

I agree with a lot of what's been posted. Xeno, the FF's, so many classics. Baldur's Gate 2 probably heads my list because I believe no game has ever created such interesting and dynamic characters, the pc-npc interaction and npc-npc interaction was off the chart.

I'll share a story a little off the board about NHL 2004, the single greatest video game event ever, or top 5 at least

My friends and I play Co-op where we each lock a position. So I lock to left wing, my other friends lock center, right wing, left and right defense respectively. We played all 82 games that year over the course of 5 months and went 81 wins, 1 loss. We don't reset ever or quit out of games, if we win, we win, if we lose we lose.

The playoffs came around and we stomped through the first 2 rounds as expected 4-0 each series. When we got to the conference finals we were up 3-0 and into game 4 and somehow we lost. Only the second time since we bought the game. Then we lost again and again. The series was tied 3-3 and it was around 2:30am. We were stunned. Well, we took 10 and then got back in front of the PS2 and hunkered down to play the 7th and deciding game. We started well and built up a 4-1 lead going into the 3rd period. And that's when we got "video-gamed" as I call it. As the 3rd period is winding down, suddenly you can't check the computer off the puck, or poke check or stop it in any way. It just gets to score. The computer scored the tying 4th goal with under 1 minute left and we barely got into overtime as it hit a post with seconds remainng.

The 5 of us just sort of stared at each other in stunned silence as we watched what was our 6th month of playing this game together wind up in overtime in the playoffs. We had played every game, and not pussing out when we lost a game in the season or playoffs, not playing on 5 minute periods with no offsides or penalties or any bullshit. Real hockey for 6 months on our weekends when the girlfriends would forget about us and our pizza 73 account could have another $50 order added to it(and no mr.operator we don't want to know how much money we've spent on pizza in the last 6 months thank you). It still gives me goosebumps thinking about this, but when we finally decided to click 'resume' and start the overtime, everything was riding on it. Every minute felt like an hour, and a desire to backcheck your ass off, cringing at every shot the computer took, wondering if that shot was the last.

With about 5 minutes left in the first overtime I was able to skate down the left wing, make a little move to beat the defenceman, but he managed to knock me off the puck. I skated into the corner for the puck, around the net and passed it across the crease so my friend chuck playing center could tap it in for the winning goal.

We went fucking nuts. I threw my controller and jumped off my seat onto the couch where chuck and one of the other guys were sitting and the other two guys piled on yelling as well. It was pure joy and I think we actually woke one of the neighbours up because we yelled so loud when we scored. We were celebrating like we were out on the rink instead of in a buddies basement at 3:30 in the morning. It was so amazing, few video game experiances have ever been like this, man it was awesome. To this day, we play NHL08 when we can. Some guys are married to their girlfriends now, some engaged; most living in different homes, but we all still laugh about "that one game" that got us so worked up we became kids again for a few minutes.

Well, what do you consider to be RPG? Each of us were locking positions and managed our players independently in terms of trades and development. I think there are certainly qualities of RPGs in modern sports games.

As for not being powerful...the only thing close to the same level of emotion during that game was when I helped lead our linkshell to beat dynamis lord. It was the first time dynamis lord had been defeated by anyone from north america on our server, and the jp's had only done it once iirc. It took us 5 months I think to go from never doing dynamis to killing DL in early 2005; 3 wipes at 1% and two of us with 100 merits were light years ahead of everyone else in that department. No one owned kraken's back then /shrug.

But I don't think even for that first DL kill we were as pumped as scoring that overtime goal.

Maybe for it to be "powerful" it has to be something that makes you cry? I disagree but if that's how ya feel, hey, right on. ciao

I'm not sure you should be taking this way to defend your point, because it's definitively not the best one. >_> Typical definition for RPG is story oriented games, with DnD'esque leveling system and battles (active or not) against various enemy. You can go against player's concensus and rewrite everything but that's kinda dumb.


As for the whole thing, any games can be intense, but we are talking about intense scenes (plot twist, story). Hockey game has no plot twist afaik.
