Soul Calibur on the other hand....
of course this just makes me wonder how the hell they're gonna handle Nightmare
Hollywood doesn't get that Transformers succeeded only because of a combination of Steven Spielberg assisting, sick CG effects, and the childhood adoration millions of grown-ups had for the cartoon. Michael Bay's only real contribution was screwing up all the combat scenes with his Michael J. Fox camera-work. They could have given it to a homeless person on the street, and it would have still been a good movie.
They're gonna keep trying out different combinations of popular fads and special effects, and lose all that money they did make on Transformers trying to recreate the phenomenon.
MK movies = <3
Cant wait for the new one.
I love Soul Calibur, but a movie of it could be bad...storywise none of the games are that strong and most of the characters don't lend themselves to OTT action sequences. I can only see fights being good if they're choreographed by a good martial artist.
I work at blockbusters, and we're getting the DVD to rent mid-September....I'm still not sure what to think of that...Originally Posted by Lordshin

Director: the person responsible for the interpretive aspects of a stage, film, or television production; the person who supervises the integration of all the elements, as acting, staging, and lighting, required to realize the writer's conception.
Director of Photography: the person who is responsible for all operations concerning camera work and lighting during the production of a film.
The "director" on a film set is probably more equivelant to your "supervisor" at your IT job. Doesn't quite add to anything when everyone else is doing their job and is definitely more qualified to. There's too many people involved in the production of a film to be able to pin it on one douchebag (Michael Bay) when things are shitty, but you can bet your ass he gets the credit when they go right.
When I think of Video game movies i remember: mario Bros. street fighter and Wing commander
then I cry
Holy mother of god, look at those pixels.Originally Posted by Epical

Probably the biggest problem I have with fighting game movies is none of the chicks they cast have the appropriate racks for the role. Surely they could teach a pornstar to kung fu dance and go "hiyah!" instead of "ooo baby!"

In all seriousness, I could see a SC movie. The problem is it'd likely get so diluted by attempting to accommodate the entire game's cast that it'll be shit when you see two guys you thought were badasses die 3 minutes after coming onscreen.
Mortal Kombat (the first movie).Originally Posted by djriceyes
Definitely NOT Street Fighter. Wirefighting style for the more fantastic moves and plenty of well-choreographed fighting, and you might actually have a movie. Course, you might have to CGI Volo, just for some of those truly un-natural contortions.
Basically, it needs to have action and visuals that hit you like a mack truck or else it'll join the long list of videogame movie failures.
You make a compelling argument.
What does everyone think about Advent Children? Or does it not even countas a "video game movie" for various reasons.
The real problem is that the people making those movies don't know how to apple to the audiences that would be interested in videogame movies in the first place.
At the core, the Soul Calibur vs Soul Blade sword story could work as a movie. It's not Shakespeare, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be entertaining. 'course, very easy to make it amazingly craptacular as well.
People actually paid to watch DOA?
I watched the SF movie when I was little. That movie shattered my dreams. Then I played Street Fighter: The Movie fighting game and gave me nightmares.
