Eagle's may have made a statement about utility, and if you really want to hold him to it 100%, then you're right in acknowledging that aegis and gjallarhorn are better for the spent currency than mandau and most other relic weapons. But just because people make particular statement doesn't mean that you should feign being retarded and pretend like you don't know what they might actually mean. Divistheory couldn't have said it better. Ridill is useful for Thf in some situations, but on the whole it will be a toy for the most part, and utterly useless in most other areas of the game. In consrast, Mandau does have use. It boosts a Thf's performance on everything, and it does help with the HNM scene (planting great hate on tanks does matter for a good many LS's). Basically, if you were to compare the "ratio of utility," for lack of a better term, of (1)Ridill-Thf:Ridill-OtherJob to the ratio of (2)Mandau:Aegis/Gjallarhorn, I think that the number on (1) would be significantly smaller than (2). Of course, you can't really measure utility in numbers (until perhaps some impossible time in the future where human beings will know everything), but you don't need numbers to be able to see the difference, in sort of the similar way that you can compare two different apples and be able to tell which one is bigger without doing any measuring.Clearly you only see black and white. A ridill for a thf is practically useless, whereas a mandau for thf is revolutionary for the job, whereas a gjallarhorn for a brd is revolutionary for the game.
The important thing to note is that utility isn't the only factor that matters. A person should be able to play the game and go for items or seek out goals that he/she wants. For people that play the game only to seek out their own personal goals, they'll lot ridill if they're only 75 is Thf. For people who don't seek their own personal gain in the least, and are looking out for utility 100%, they'll likely understand that currency could be better spent on aegis or gjallarhorn. People's decisions are often based on their values. The lootwhores out there will lot the ridill regardless. The utility zealots will act much differently. Those who value utility, but also value the right for an individual to pursue the fruits of their own labor for their own personal gain, will act differently. At least eagle acknowledges utility, unlike many lootwhores out there. I'd act the same way. Personally, I'd never lot a ridill unless it dropped and there was nobody deserving present to lot it (and as erin mentioned earlier, one could easily level war to 75 to make better use of the item). While I most likely wouldn't lot ridill, mandau is one of my dreams in this game (one that will probably never be realized).
Note: If you're going to quote the above in response, let's not derail this thread into utility;ethics;philosophy.
I'm sure that there are many thieves here and elsewhere that are prepared to make that contention and consider it a non-"blanket statement." Among the thf community, ridill has been discussed time and time again over the years in the Allah' Thf forums and elsewhere, and is its worth for thf has generally been realized. It's situational for us and in most circumstances, not useful. For me, I outparsed a similarly geared ridill Thf about a year ago on trolls while I was using Blau/MercurialKris, and even then, /Misericorde+1 was superior though I didn't know for sure until a few parses and reading a few threads. This was before the dagger update of last year, so now Merc.Kris sucks even more. Sirocco kukri has much lower delay (dk if it has better TP/hit), much higher accuracy (so that you don't have to gimp yourself by using extra acc when using ridill), hits with a much higher attack rating, has a much better chance of landing a 2x-3x attack, and procs wind damage. You're seriously prepared to make the contention that a thf with a ridill wouldn't outdo a thf with 2 daggers, having never owned one. I'm not saying "zomg give a THF a ridill immediately", far from it, but I do like how one can immediately throw a blanket statement...
As some mentioned in this thread, there's a lot more to the update than grips. The effect of attributes (ie. Str) is being changed in the damage calculation of 2H weapons, and the WS's are being revamped to a certain extent. 2H damage on HNM's is also being adjusted. That's 4 separate improvements to 2H'ers (unless I'm missing another adjustment?). Honestly, nobody can ever say for sure what SE will do. When they made the Rng adjustment, they destroyed arrowburns, and this was not expected. The 2H update could be huge like that. And in the last year, they've made adjustments to 2H that haven't been such an incredible boost that they make 2H on par with dual-wielders in burn situations. The update could be similarly marginal. My hunch is that it will not be a huge update; that, generally, 2H will still not be able to compete with dual-wielders in burn situations...but you never know. There's a chance that the update could be pretty intense. We'll have to wait and see.I want to know whatever it is you're having because unless you get a multiattack grip you're still not standing center stage with the 3 in the topic title.
Lol.for a TH whore job
I honestly thought that the mage was cleverly dodging all the attacks at first. Then I lol'd.I think that sig is hilarious lol
Wow. I must admit that made me laugh a good bit. But...Archain, if that was really you posting something like that, and not some friend of yours using your name, I must admit that that may very well be the most out-of-character post that I have ever seen.Archain wrote:ANNIHILATE!

It was definitely Archain, and pretty in line with his normal character once you get to know him a little. I take it you never saw the post about his basement?Originally Posted by Shamaya

I also noticed he put this at the bottom in small text: "Dong is not utility, it is a way of life." haha
so is DONG going to become a key word now on BG ?

Cup of ramen ftw.
Archain posts on Allah? wtf cat.
People naysay the Ridill wielding THF, and that is fine. The true power of this combination lies in its subjob. THF/DRG, when mated with a Ridill, knows only the sky as the limit. A demonstration of Trick Attack + Jump with a triple proc will make you cognisant of that. And Triple Attack, despite musings from Chiz, will never fail to connect with the mob. And if you remain skeptical of the residual TP gain, just remember that /DRG affords you 10 extra accuracy.
When it comes time to WS, you have a few options. But because elemental weaponskills do not get along with Trick or Sneak Attack, I find that Fast Blade in full Hecatomb armor is the skill of choice. Revel in the brutality of double or triple attack proccing on nearly every WS! Watch out stratosphere, we're coming for you!
The wyvern targe and earring give you 6% haste that you would not be familiar with under any other circumstances. 6% haste and Homam results in an unrelenting volley of cool scimitar (falchion?) noises.
When the going gets tough, you can always High Jump the immense amount of enmity away. (Well, half of it.) And if you still find yourself in the throes of the mob's hatred, you can Flee away.
Consider this the retort of retorts.
As long as you are not THF/RNG then ok!
o where o where has our Dougie gone?
