It was really funny when the shell holder of a JP linkshell checked my second character on the way to Dragon's Aery, but then changed gear when said character checked him back.

The whole thing is a bunch of horse feathers.
There are retards on both sides of the fence. It's just that only NA has any say in this thread. /c when you're camping HNM is pretty much fair game, Son Szu said "know your enemy", and it applies here. Again, I stress, there are retards on both sides. /c'ing someone without asking doesn't make you a fuckard, but knowing it's offensive and whining about getting check spam or whatever after you do means you're an idiot.
Christ, if you're going to quote the Art of War, please at least spell the guy's name right. It's Sun Tzu. Anyways it's not really knowing your enemy because there is no form of PvP in FFXI .

    Re: Examining players

I have mostly got /blush or /smile from jps when I have checked them in the past never got slapped, the only person I have had change gears on me while /c was some thief from db last night i lagged while trying to check their bazaar they went into a gear changing fit, i laughed waited till after the window and looked at their bazaar.

On the casting lots is a part of the game it is not the same, you can not check peoples bazaars without checking them, you can win items without lotting.

My first 3 weeks on kujata I couldn't run from the mog house to the auction house in whitegate without being checked atleast 30 times lol, server transfer /checks all right!

Again, read what I quoted you on, if you still don't get it, you really need to read the manual.

I remember when I was on Shiva I checked this guy named Blackdeath, and he turned fucking crazy, he spammed me "death" and spam checked me for like an hour. I don't think he was japanese though. Fuck him. lol
That was probably Blackdragon, he gets emo when you check him. He's in an NA LS so I guess he's like a wanna be JP.

Unless you're talking about the ability to filter lot results (which doesn't fix the problem which is why I didn't go into that, infact it makes it easier for people to steal loot from you) I really don't understand what you're talking about. Either way, you're just distracting from the issue.

Face it, forcing ridiculous and irrational cultural tolerance towards a society which doesn't believe in true cultural tolerance (only skin-deep politeness) is downright silly.

Yes, I mean you can filter out lot result if it bothers you. Why shouldn't people lot just because you get annoyed by lotting and don't want to filter it out?

Also, the only person racist here seems to be you. You basically called out an entire race because of gaming. Even if you were right, what does that make you. So the reason for you to be racist is because other people are racist. It is ok steal from other people, because those people might steal as well.

Fucking logic, do you need any help?

Stating a trend about the majority of people in a country is not racist. It's branding the average member of a nation by the beliefs the society shares. No where did I say asian, I said Japanese, and Japan is a nation! So no, it's not racism.

Also, it'd be racism if I thought everyone of Japanese origin ethnically behaved in the same way, and I do not. Plenty of JPs don't care if you check them or not (the vast majority on my server, actually). This is just aimed at those who do care. Those who do care are obviously steeped in their diametrically opposed sad little paradox of a culture.

Clearly I have no trouble finding logic, but I really appreciate your offer of assistance.

However, it does seem like you don't understand the difference between racism and prejudice. Perhaps you need some help there.

    Re: Examining players

Prejudice would be if I met a Japanese person and didn't check them simply because of their race, assuming that they were offended by it simply because they belong to a racial group...which I guess is what you're proposing, right?

(By the way, you can just admit you're wrong and stop talking now, or you can keep trying to take cheap shots and make an ass of yourself)

Lotting isn't annoying becuase of the messages, though, it's annoying because you're basically stealing items from your teammates. Filtering out lotting messages won't prevent that theft from taking place. However, since /checking someone doesn't actually *do* anything to the person you checked, filtering it out can be a handy way to prevent yourself from becoming annoyed by seeing a semi-perverted message (if you're Japanese). Also, I'm not certain why you feel /checking someone at an HNM camp is appropriate but not elsewhere in the game. You say "know your enemy," but frankly I'd rather get a better feel for whether the people I'm partied with are going to be idiots.

The thing is - who knows if this is offensive to the person you're checking? Again, it shouldn't be - People just shouldn't be offended by being checked, unless they are the aforementioned mentally handicapped. If a specific JP politely expressed his desire not to be checked, I'd probably respect his retard wishes. Beyond that, I'm not going to assume that just because someone is JP means that they are mentally handicapped. That would just be wrong. Beyond a couple /blushes afterwards, I've never had anyone react negatively to my checking, and I've been doing it for the better part of 4 years now. I'm not going to toss out my experience with the /check command because someone on an online video game message forum is trying to convince me that there is a culture of retardation in the JP community.

    Re: Examining players

I'm always interested in what gear players equip. I always check partymembers if I get an invite, if I'm able to spot a Francisca wielding 75 WAR while I'm still in White Gate it saves me a lot of time and/or frustration.

Use your chatfilters appropriately if being /checked annoys you.

QFT, and QFT on the second as well. :3 He's/She's been doing that nearly every post, without much provocation, and I really don't know why/see the necessity of it.

    Re: Examining players

I have /c filter on. Not because I don't like being checked, on the contrary, I have decent gear (and some very good gear) for all of my jobs, and I'm damn proud of it. The reason I filter it is because I found myself thinking "Shit, did I have my GOOD gear on when they checked me?", and it seemed like a stupid thing to worry about, so I put a stop to it. Also, I hated it when someone would /c me right before I intended to change gear, and to avoid being a dick, I would feel obligated not to change gear for a second. Ignorance is bliss. Now if I happen to change gear .5 seconds after someone /c's me, then I don't know about it, and so I don't care about it.

Also, I check whoever I want to check, though I tend to avoid checking PT members when I'm not the leader, and when they don't have bazaar up. I'm not so much worried about offending as I'm worried about them being overly self-conscious about what I think of them, and either get pissed, or start apologizing about it or something stupid that I would really rather not waste my time with.

For some reason, when people get /c'd by people with better gear, they feel ashamed, even if their gear isn't anything horrible. I try to avoid judging players by the amount of White boxes they have, and I try not to dismiss a wal-mart RDM, as I've known some of them are damn good at their job and just don't have gil/time for all the ZOMG uber gear. Now if I catch em wearing melee gear to an official PT (meaning not a fuck-around PT) then I might have a few choice comments...

    Re: Examining players

If its really been a source of offense for so long with the japanese... shouldn't SE just modify the translation? The company is after all japanese themselves, they PUT the translation in there, in japanese. If after 4+ years they haven't bothered to fix it, I don't see why another culture (NAs) should make it their problem by avoiding use of an in-game included function.

    Re: Examining players

If I want to examine someone, I will.

As mentioned already it's a free range game function. If the game intended you to choose when to be examined, they'd of included:

'Bob has requested to examine you, allow? >Yes
    > No'

    as with a party invite.

I've never had someone complain about being examined, nor have I ever had an issue with being examined.

That's another point. If JP people felt checking is so bad, why didn't the JP company put {May I /check you?} into the translator?
