I was running around slaughtering bone chip mobs in gusgen when I saw a party of 6 anon /follow people. Not claiming these were RMT or anything *cough* The 'leader' checked me as I ran by. I immediatly checked him back only to get hit with 5 spammed checks by that person.

Needless to say he only had equipment in visible slots and CLEARLY got offended by this counter check. I had to laugh.

It isn't that the actual translation is so offensive, it is merely "Soandso gazes you." or so I've been told.

(should be an at, but I guess that is assumed in the japanese syntax)

It's just rude to do the gazing without asking, and gives the feeling of being leered at, as opposed to curiousity.

Reason #1 why not asking first wins (well, at least in this instance):

Was leveling a sub in the Dunes when a Taru approaches /shouting Raise Please <pos>
I checked him immediately, 30BLM no subjob. He quickly switches to /anon. I told him to get lost. Had I not /c'd him as quickly as I did he prolly would have gotten his raise (yes, we had a PL)

Did a search of the area and his buddy that was eating sand was a 30WHM no sub.

isnt this what this game is all about? having sweet gear and making sure others know it? I guess I just dont understand this, everyone no matter what continent youre from desires the best gear, they want to be congrat'd when they aqcuire the drop but then they get pissed if you /check them to see it? Dumb.

Agreed. Some people just get so offended by it. Kinda funny. I will examine them more if they get pissed off.
