    Couple questions (Graphics card related)

I been having a few problems with my new visiontek radeon x1300 xge card making my screen flicker (although this problem randomly dissapears every now and again). Any idea what might cause that, I messed with my refresh rate and it seems gone for now but I fear it's return.

Edit: it's back but might be less frequent.

Second question, is this an acceptable temp (FFXI in moghouse and firefox running along with some background apps)?

Core goes up to 63 in crowded areas, and hovers around 59 in other places.

although I hate temperatures that high, if it's a pentium D cpu, it's likely normal with stock heatsink and poor airflow in case. If it's any other cpu especially a core duo 2, I'd check the heatsink/thermal compound.

It's an althon 64 3200+with stock heatsink (I got a bunch of case fans though).

I've been playing ffxi on this comp for years (minus the new gfx card) I never had many problems with it untill recently (I noticed it because the fans started running really loud).

So you think better thermal compond or something will help?

I find Core temp is better for giving you the most accurate core temps.

Those AMDs run hot, so I wouldn't stress it if your using the stock heatsink. I would try to get a better heatsink if possible.

if the fans are running louder, might want to do a run through your system with a can or 2 of compressed air. You might have some dust-clogged intakes/heatsinks

That temp is just fine, if you look at your tjunction it say's 85c or something along those lines. Any temp with a 5 in front of it is fine especially if that's either at load or at least being stressed.

my PC idles around 40c and at load is about 55 with the core's getting into the 60's during a stress test. Granted my CPU is overclocked but still my temps are higher than yours and well within acceptable. If you wanna lower it just check your airflow. Fans are good, but to many can be counter-productive.

As for the screen flicker, i'm not sure, it sounds like a refresh rate thing, but you said you already played with that. Make sure that what you set it to is appropriate for your monitor, see if maybe your monitor is just breaking down, is it old?

My friend has had this problem before, and it wasn't the refresh rate. He had two monitors hooked up to one computer and he was having a flicker problem because the power to it was off. The computer was sending it too much Hertz? I don't remember any more details but could try looking into that.

try hooking them up one at a time, see if the problem persists or if it is only with one monitor. You might have an issue with the refresh rate being good for one of the monitors but not for the other if they are different monitors with different specs.

usually flickering is a refresh rate issue or a dying monitor.

I didn't post a solution, I don't know much about that, but that was the problem my friend was having, so I was just trying to maybe spark a different idea on how to fix the problem since it isn't fixed yet. Just trying to look at it in a different angle.
