It's not cool. No one who has more than half a brain thinks you're cool for taking giant leaps and bounds towards cirrhosis, and killing braincells by the hundreds of thousands.

Drink in moderation, sure. Enjoy yourself, whatever.

But drinking until your body pushes the "Evacuate ship" button, is not wise. And bragging about it is even less intelligent.
Actually, I don't think anyone here drinks to that extent on purpose. As you can probably tell from the OP, I was lamenting. No sane person drinks to see how much they can drink.
    Yea......what demo.......said

Completely accidental I'm sure. They were convinced there was no alcoholic content to those multitudes of drinks they consumed in ludicrous quantities.

    Obviously.

Yeah, lets forget that the more you drink, the more carefree you are. Not everyone buckles down and goes, "hmm I' had 2 shots and a beer. I'm stopping for the night." Recounting is normally (in this case), done the morning after.

No, drinking in moderation is fine.

Drinking until your body forces you to become a bulimic?

    Not so much.

Not trying to start an argument or be sarcastic with you, but what would you consider drinking in moderation? Just social drinking? One or two beers/shots/whatever? Typically if I'm going to drink, it's going to end with me getting drunk. Is there a middle ground, or a reason to drink if not to get drunk? A lot of alcoholic beverages that I've tried were not that tasty in my opinion, I can't imagine drinking alcohol just for the taste. I'd much prefer a soda (which I rarely drink) or another drink entirely to a beer, if I'm just going to have one beer and don't intend on getting drunk.

Then again, I've only thrown up twice from drinking ever, and I've never gotten a hangover worth crying over. But the long term effects are still there, obviously, so I know drinking is still bad -- not saying otherwise or that I'm immune or something.

qft. If I'm drinking alcohol (happens about twice a month on average) then I'm doing it to get drunk. And of course no one sets out to drink 16 shots of 151 (in my case), so I'll explain to you how it happens.

First shot: That hurt, I feel nothing.
Second shot: Hurt less, feel buzzed.
Third shot: Wasn't so bad, feel pretty buzzed.
    Fourth shot: Now I'm drunk.
Fifth shot: This is a good feeling.
Sixth shot: WHO WANTS TO DO BODY SHOTS?
    The Next Morning:
(Me) Wow my head hurts a little and a don't remember a whole ton of last night, what happened?
(Roommate) You drank 16 shots of 151 and threw your cell phone at the wall when you saw your ex dry fucking some guy on the dance floor.
    (Me) Cheers.

If I wanted a tasty drink I'd just drink a soda or something. "Social drinking" or whatever you want to call it is just retarded... You get all of the detriment of drinking alcohol and none of the benefits. And don't try and tell me that moderate amounts of alcohol are good for your health, because there are no studies showing that. The only studies that show even that remote kind of relationship are completely correlational in nature (not causal), only involve wine, and max out at one glass a day. Now if you are drinking to just get a "buzz" or something of the sort, just smoke a little bit of weed and you'll be good.

Honestly if you can't imagine drinking alcohol for the taste, then your bartenders blow, which isn't a surprise seeing as how it is very hard to find a good one these days.

I used to think the exact same thing you did. Drinking alcohol just tastes bad for the most part, but then I thought maybe my bartenders and friends just didn't know what the hell they were doing. Turns out I was right. I learned how to make drinks properly, and now I often sit down in front of the computer or tv or whatever with a drink with absolutely no intention of getting drunk and am drinking it just because I like the flavor.

If you want to know what a good drink tastes like you should try to find a bartender that makes a drink with a good balance. Most bartenders go for these overly sweet and fruity concoctions that are just horrible, but a good bartender is able to mix the sweet and the sour, the strong and the subtle, to create a good drink. In a good drink you are SUPPOSED to taste the alcohol, but it is not supposed to be a bad thing. If mixed properly most people will realize they actually like the taste of things like gin, whisk(e)y, or brandy (which for some reason most people in college have never really tried). Hell one of my favorite things to do is find people who think "Gin tastes like a pine cone," and make them a drink that is composed of like 50% gin, and watch as they change their minds.

If anyone reading this is ever in Tuscaloosa, just hit me up on here. I guarantee you I can make some of the best drinks you have ever had, as long as you are open to tasting new things....free of charge for first timers

    Re: Note about Jello Shooters

I don't know why people brag about not puking. I don't puke often but I wish I did. I just can't even force myself to if i've been drinking...no gag reflex. But I feel so much better the next day when I can throw up as much of the alcohol as I can.

I don't drink often, or in large quantities but I have my moments where it gets out of hand, moreso when I was in college and a bottle of captain morgan or JD in a night wasn't unheard of. But now it's more like a 6 pack (which i don't care what anyone say's isn't really a lot and barely buzzes me) or a couple glasses to a bottle of wine, same deal with the 6 pack, def not enough to go overboard.

There's nothing wrong with drinking unless you do stupid shit like go driving. If you wanna kill your own brain cells, have at it cause there are a lot of things that kill brain cells, drinking just does it faster.

All that aside, the most fun times of my life were when i was absolutely obliterated drunk on some island in tampa bay with two of my best friends (that happen to be hot chicks). Most of the time when i ask someone if they were drunk or sober for the most fun time they can remember, they were drunk. assuming they aren't some straight edge, drinking is the devil homo.

Edit: and the most jello shots I have done in one night was however many fit on a cookie tray when I was in high school, was a bad night after one of those prom things I went to....I ended up passing out mid-stride walking outside onto the porch, fell on my face, puked off the balcony and passed out for a couple hours. When I came to there were some kids sitting on rocking chairs throwing cheetos on my back.

Am I the only one who can drink, pass out from it (I dont know my limit most of the time >.> ), and wake up the next day perfectly fine?

Ive only thrown up once atfer drinking, and as it turned out another person had gotten sick from the food we had eaten then night before, so I blame the food and not the alcohol.

I remember this. You had bruises under your eyes from puking so hard. Hilarious.

Seriously.. I looked like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xejf_Fym5q8

    The pressure from puking bursted capalaries in and around my eyes, causing blood to expand in the whites of my eyes, and bruises around them. I looked like someome had given me a shiner in both eyes. ;;

Same for me. I always thought that if I started getting them I'd stop drinking because it wouldn't be worth it, just based on how I've seen my friends after a long night of drinking. Glad they haven't come on yet! I'm sure it'll catch up with me when I hit 30+ though.

Also, when doing Jello Shooters in excess, be sure not to jump in bear pits.

Well to be honest, I'm only 19, so I haven't had the pleasure of drinking a well-made alcoholic drink made by a bartender. I've had a couple mixed drinks that tasted good I'll admit, I didn't say that no alcoholic beverage tasted good, but I still can't see myself drinking for the sake of the taste even if it was good. Different strokes for different folks I guess, and who knows, maybe it'll change as I get older so I won't write it off just yet.

When I was your age (i'm only 24 that's such an old thing to say ) I had the same view as you. I thought everything that had alcohol in it tasted pretty bad, and the only reason i was drinking was to get hammered. Then something just changed along the way, I stopped drinking stuff to get drunk and drank stuff cause it tasted really good.

When I was younger I drank stuff that was just insanely strong mixes, like 60/40 drinks where the 60 is the liquor and 40 is the mix and just pounded it down. As I started to try different drinks and properly mixed, some started to taste damn good. White russians are really good if you like vodka/kahlua, jack and coke has a nice flavor but thats just cause i like the taste of jack, i've gotten into certain kinds of wine, shiraz's and rieslings are my two prefered and i'll drink a cabernet sauvignon cause my fiance likes it a little stronger, but no fucking merlot. Pinot noirr is pretty good too. And beer even started tasting better when I started getting into nicely brewed lagers like yuengleng and sam adams instead of young cheap shit like natty ice and milwaulkee's beast.

I think it was just the fact that i turned 21 and could do whatever I wanted (so to speak) that changed my taste for drinking. It's completely a social thing now and I could care less about going out and partying and getting hammered. If i get hammered then my night was a failure, if i have some drinks with friends and can maintain my composure throughout the course of the night then I had a good night.

That said, every once in a while you are gonna get hammered and as long as you got someone to watch out for you there's nothin wrong with that.

The good times you remember having >>>> The good times you don't remember having.

Get drunk, don't get self-destructive. I can't believe how long it takes the average twentysomething to learn this lesson. Some never do.

People drinking themselves unconscious every time are fucking degenerates. Learn some self control.
