Advice on getting accounts back.

I decided to quit FFXI about 8 months ago in order to pay my bills, and work and allow FFXI to not get in the way of my real life but now that I am once financially stable again I would like to return. After quitting I canceled my content ID and my computer after that encountered a problem so I took it to the computer store and they rebooted it and fixed it. A few days later one of my RL friends told me he saw my character in game somehow.. I didn't really care to be honest because I didn't intend on going back.

So after 8 months I installed FFXI again and was about to log on and then the password didn't work. First thing I did was contact Square-Enix via webchat on the playonline website, I provided all the necessary details and after doing so the man said "I can't help you because one of your details (the credit card) was incorrect" I apparently changed my credit card and reactivated it again which I didn't.. I kept saying I could provide him with any information on the account but he continued to say that unless I provide him with the current credit card number then I would never be able to return again.

I'm curious on some troubles and experience people on this forum have encountered and appreciate any advice you people have to say, I'm quite upset that SE are this poor with customer service..

NA client requires that you are able to provide the new CC# or else they will not give you the new password.

Mine's Euro but they are both the same. I believe the people at the computer shop took my character and changed the details and this is why I cannot gain access regardless of being able to provide 2 previous credit cards I put onto the account. I called the computer shop up and asked if the person who fixed my computer still worked there and he doesn't.

I just don't understand this "no creditcard, no deal" rule. Surely they understand that if somebody steals your account, the very first thing they are going to do is change your details, particularly your credit card?

If you can provide every single detail on the account and the previous credit card number, surely that is enough to prove that you legitimately own the account, or at the very least, are far more likely to than the person who doesn't have any of that information apart from the cc..

When I called, they asked for all previous credit cards and how long they had been billing it, what address to and under what name. Eventually they reset my password

I would try calling them, always seem to get a lot more done that way. If this fails you could try going back to the store you took your pc to and ask if anyone else has reported missing data. If it was a member of their staff, you should get compensation!

Thanks for your responses I manged to get my password back after giving the same results but talking to another person, it shows there is hope with the SE customer service.

You could also tell them you will be having all previous charges charged to you old Credit Card disputed.

Friend of mine is trying to get his account back in similar fashion, but they tell him w/o the current CC info he can't get it back. Even though he has the CD keys and past CC info.

Any tips on what to do? We're thinking he should just harass them until they give him his account back.

This has been discussed many times in my LS and with some friends. A friend of mine gave me his account before he quit and like me he played on Xbox 360. I never changed his password so if he ever wanted to get on and bullshit he could. He sold his Xbox and the guy that bought it took the account and changed the PW on it. Luckily I was able to get the account back from the guy but it brought up a big issue to me that SE could easily fix. They are one of the only services on the internet that I know of that does not require you to provide your previous info. Easy fix so people don't get their accounts jack as much imo.

I recently got my account stolen as well, and have called several times and am able to verify everything other than the current credit card number, and the current address, which of course the bastard changed. I am even able to tell them all previous CC's and how long they were billed, along with registration codes, the whole 9 yards. They still won't give it to me >< Any suggestions?

For every account that is "stolen" there are probably several more that were sold by some wanker with the intent to just change the pw back after he gets the $$. I imagine that is the reason they are a pain in the ass about it. Seems farily legitimate to me.

So they make it incredibly difficult for a legitimate player who has had their account stolen to get it back regardless of whether or not they have all the relevent information, so as to protect players who RMT accounts off other players? Yeah, makes perfect sense to me.

Heh. They've recently changed policy at SE...

Three months ago I had a pass returned without knowing the credit card # because I had the POL reg. codes... Today, I realize my second char was stolen, but the person has changed the cc. I still have reg codes, but they won't restore cuz I don't know the CC. It was changed a week ago, and they require the "current" information... Mind you, it was billed to my account for August, not this new cc... ANy tips?
