I think i got more use out of it than any blm, whm or smn woulda anyway. I solo'd on mnk a lot and being able to outdistance something for a couple seconds to get a shadow up when otherwise it'd be hackin at me and the +8 eva (before af1+1) was always good to have.

I also was able to kite a lot of things in potential wipes as mnk/war in dynamis and saved from big wipes a few times or at least having a lot of unnecessary deaths due to a rogue NM or boss.

It definitely had it's uses and given that mnk feet is one of the worst places for our equip vs. other jobs at the same equip slot, it's not a horrible thing to give to a person who does mnk to a lot of things. But seriously, it's just a toy and really doesn't matter who you give it to, it's a play thing, so give it based on attendance is probably the most fair thing or sell/split.

They aren't worth much now but before I quit I got about 150+m for mine less than a year ago.

The added benefit they provide to BLM doesn't justify giving them to only BLM if someone else with jobs that can use it have far more contributions to the shell

I didn't say that and if you read my post, I think they should be sold for LS gil or given to dedicated members. I just find it funny people like the MNK a few posts ago think they get more use out of them and some people think they are only good for getting to HNMs faster. Some people just obviously don't know what they can be used for it seems.

Who said they were more useful on mnk than blm? I don't see it. Also, training sea can be done on any job with gaiters or crimson.

Don't need any +movespeed to run around sea, but it does make it much easier.

BLM gets a boost in soloing, so did I on mnk. hardcore blm solo and hardcore mnk solo operate differently but having the speed increase allowed me to do a lot of things that were otherwise impossible or extremely unlikely to do. especially in duoing and soloing. As solo I never had to worry about losing shadows cause i can just run around til Ni timer was up, in duo same thing. Sure you can run around faster, but you also have many debuffs/sleep spells at your disposal, something not available to a mnk trying to solo.

I'm not saying that it's 100% always better, and not denying that it is useful for blm, i said that I got more use out of it than probably most blm/whm/smn since if it's all for solo anyway it doesn't really matter who gets it.

give them to the mages who deserve them? mages already get so little from the endgame, if someone has put in the time, why not let them have it? everyone has different goals to accomplish, so to tell someone they can't have a drop because it is not ex and deemed a "toy" by some melee who think they're only useful for going to MH -> AH faster... i don't know, i think it would send my morale down the toilet.

just don't give it to someone who hasn't earned them yet, or enjoy your stolen gaiters. XDDDDD

This is true.
Gaiters are a life saver for BLMs, most of the time they will get more use out of them than the other 3 jobs that can equip but yeh participation should be top consideration.

my ls gives priority to who ever camps it after a few claims. we don't give it to someone if it drops on the first kill from their camp b/c sometimes people stop after that.

after that, we give them to blms who really deserve them from over-all ls participation. then to whms who deserve them. it's worked out pretty well so far.

w/e. You soloing some random T mob and a BLM soloing Ix'DRK are a bit of a different scale. Like I stated, people don't get what the right BLM can do with them.

You can solo MNK and DRG without gaiters rather easily. Ix'DRK you could solo with or without gaiters assuming you could actually isolate the main from the 2 RNGs.

At the risk of derailing said thread, how does this work? Everytime I've tried this (either entrance or portal, I can't seem to gain enough seperation between the RNG and DRK. While the RNGs do like to stand back and ranged attack, they don't stand back far enough to really seperate when I try >.<

Is there something I'm missing about this for solo attempts? Obviously in a Duo or more this is very easy.

Dunno how to solo as BLM, but as RDM/NIN, before popping it (sheer animousity), activate chainspell, click ??? > Grav both adds and Bio3 the Ix while running to zone.

As I said, i'm not denying they are useful for blm, but blm has tools at it's disposal which really anything it can do with gaiters it can do without if you're the right BLM. It'll make it easier sure but it doesn't open any doors to let you do something that would be otherwise impossible. As a mnk, the gaiters give the means to do things that would be otherwise impossible without them.

In both cases they are still just a toy. The right blm or the right mnk doesn't make any difference because in most cases they'll probably be going to someone that doesn't use them for anything to push their limits it's just about having them.
