The tree-killing actually was required. A couple servers came really close to not having OP warps ever, but SE extended the deadline and they were able to finish it just in time. If they were much later, Fairy and Midgardsormr would be the only two servers without OPs today.

Unless you can think of a server that never killed their trees, even after the deadline extension.

It's not a world event because it didn't require the cooperation of the entire server, didn't do anything drastic, and was just another holiday event.

I really doubt SE would have denied servers OP warps, especially when there wasn't a server-switch option available.

I used WoW more because the people here are more familiar with it and with this event in particular, which was hyped up by Blizzard fairly well.

And I'm not comparing the two games, I'm comparing specific parts of them. You're incredibly naive if you think SE wouldn't do well to learn from some of Blizzard's successes.

I KNOW its been said many times before: FFXI is a party-based PvE game and WoW is a all-round game thats suits almost everybody's needs... (i mean 9 million people are getting their money's worth)

IMO FFXI is a unique game and its difficulty ( and tediousness) weeds out the bad players from the good, i know more people in WoW who just plain suck than in FFXI....
But enough about FFXI vs WoW >< (sorry for derail) they both have good qualities and bad qualities....

BTW fish ranking is content >.> i dont see how it isnt... sure its not USEFUL content... but its content nonetheless >.>
