You can't download the update while POL is down.

I'm GMT+2 means i can't play from 6pm till 2:30 am, thats like the worst posible way.
Positive thing is i can start update download, go sleeping and its finished when i wake up, now gotta find some more movies to watch.

@ Pergo, I'm pretty sure "Check Files" is just a feature that allows you to check FFXI for errors or missing files. It doesn't download updates, and especially if POL is... offline anyways.

You could check the files you already have, but you actually have to have the files to data mine them and POL has to be up to get those files. Not too complicated.

the last 2 updates I used outside pol "Check Files" and got the update a good 30min-1hour before the inside "Play" button was changed to "Check Version". once theres maintainance, they usually 'add-in' the update shortly after the servers go down... the check version button appears some time after that.

i know there were a few other people here at bg(dat miners, i think) who did the exact same thing... thats how i found out about it.

and i've never checked if you could check files if pol is down, since i don't really remember the last time it was down
