Piercing an infant's ears...

So I have a 4 month old daughter, and it seems at least once a week we (my fiancee and I) get into a fight about piercing our daughter's ears. I think the idea is totally absurd to jab these huge prongs into her ear's. We're essentially making a decision for her that she should make on her own. Not to mention, it'll start out as little stud earrings at 4 months, turn into hoop earrings at 3 years, a belly button ring at 8, and by the time she's 16, she'll be dancing on poles with tattoo's of dolphins around her belly button. I won't stand for this shit! What say you BG?

I voted yeh simply because I'm Mexican and I'm used to that. The little girls get their ears pierced a couple of months after they are born. In fact, I thought it was very common, even here (I never paid any attention though, well, maybe cuz I don't care lol). I thought it was like wearing the watch on the left hand, belt is right, etc. etc. some simple shit.

At least, unlike circumcision, there's a good bet the child will want them pierced eventually anyway. However, I definitely think that anything cosmetic (including circumcision) should be left up to the child to make the decision when they are old enough to do so. Also, unlike circumcision, if your daughter doesn't like them, she can take them out and they'll grow back pretty much the same as they were before without any significant loss of tissue that is irreplaceable.

People seem to say no just because its a baby... I was down with you totally against it, my baby is 6 months old now. I was adamant, saying when she says to me she wants her ears pierced is when Im gonna take her to get them done.

Ill tell you what though, she is the cutes thing with earings lol. Yes she screamed and yes they hurt, but she only screamed for maybe 2 minutes after they where in, Im sure you know how to calm down your baby. Do the earings after she gets her vaccines, which Im sure you have done since they done at 2 months.

Personally from my experience, it was better this way, she didnt play with her ears so they didnt get infected, An older baby would be more prone to mess with the earings. More importantly they forget pain alot faster.

holy shit 16? almost every girl i know at 16 has at least had their piercings since they were at most around 8~10. By 16 girls start to get cartilage or their 2nd and 3rd piercings (per ear that is). Maybe that's just because of the liberal surroundings where I live.
