    Re: Piercing an infant's ears...

I really don't understand why anyone would even think of getting it done till the kid themselves decide they want it done. I'm not retarded like some people saying she'll grow up to be a slut or anything because of it . I just can't understand why. No kids around where I grew up ever had them till teens. I guess it has somthing to do with parents wanting to parade around there kids or somthing. Maybe in more populated areas.

    Re: Piercing an infant's ears...

Not touching the "whether you should or shouldn't" issue, that's your call, but here's something to consider.

The mall-era of ear piercing using a "gun" shoots a stud earring into the ear. This doesn't pierce, it punches through the flesh. Earring studs are not needles, they are blunted.

When my mother took me to get my ears pierced (at eight or nine? I believe), we went to a doctor, who used a needle to thread a slender hoop through the loob. I had no problems with infection, and none of the issue with sleeping with a butterfly closure smashed into my skull.

The two other ear piercings I have got done with a "gun" at 15, and it was awful. The flesh was bruised from the rough treatment, infection occured, and on a probably less "zomg" level, the actual piercing holes are significantly larger. You can get pierced with a 20 or higher gauge hoop, have delicate piercings, and not worry about heavier earrings hanging down to your navel.
