actually i meant not having jury trials but thats a good reason also
T'was kidding.![]()
Some judges are major dicks about skipping jury duty, if you finally do show up, often times they will berate you in front of the whole court about your civic duty and how you are a failure as a citizen. I have never personally seen it, but my parents have. They mentioned it to me when I was summoned to jury duty three times within one year![]()
And failure to show up or reply to jury duty is a crime, though I suspect they dont enforce it all though much![]()
lol thanks guy :D They didn't call on my number, lucky me![]()
Ya if you skip.... police officers arnt going to come raiding through your bedroom door. It all depends on what type of case it is, and what state you live in.Originally Posted by alt
If its really just a civil case... non-felony usually nothing major happens if you skip the first time, but if you skip a 2nd one (in your lifespan) there will be a warrant out for your arrest 6 months-1 year after the 2nd one you skipped. Having that warrant will get you arrested if your ever FIO'd by a police officer, but it will also make your drivers license non-renewable.
If its a federal case..... ya, dont skip these. If you skip a federal case, there is no "2nd chance" there will be a warrant out for your arrest 2-3 months after the trial instead of the 6months-1 year like the civil one.
I recieved a summons during the spring quarter this year, and couldn't go since i was at OSU. Surprisingly enough, my friend got one this summer and supposibly got off by spouting that he was racist against everything/everyone. I don't know if that works though...
I've alway's wondered if someones religious views are taken into account for this kind of thing. Or being a witness, don't they still have you swear on the bible to tell the whole truth etc... and swear the jurors on a bible to be fair or whatever.
Since I would refuse to swear anything on the bible, would that mean I can't be a witness/juror?

Why wait for a moving violation? They can just go to your door. They know where you live.
I think the alternative he was refering to was, you know, not democracy. You know, that thing, with the one guy who tells everybody what to do. You know, a dictatorship?Originally Posted by Boyiee
I've never seen a court pull out a bible to swear on. At least not in any jurisdictions I've been in.
The jury duty selection process is the boring as hell part, I had it for a federal case a while ago and they just kept you sitting around forever, and then five minutes of questions, and then I happened to be one they thought they might want but weren't sure, so me and like one other person had to stay after everyone else got dismissed. It really sucked. And then I didn't get even get picked after all that. It was a case that had to with some sort of international trade violations something or other I know nothing about. It was the US v. some Japanese company and when they asked questions I could tell they were trying to see if I was racist. It was weird. But if you do get picked, your case might be actually interesting!

Dunno about the Bible part though.
I've actually received two of these, the lastest this past summer. I just told them I wasn't able to do it because I was in college, and despite me not being in summer classes, they said I didn't have to go in.
This is sadly true. The address they have listed for me isn't even where I live anymore, it's my parents' house. I skipped out on jury duty back in May and went in to get a postponement, when I got back there was a sheriff waiting for me outside my apartment. Be careful about skipping <.<Why wait for a moving violation? They can just go to your door. They know where you live.
