dont get me wrong I have nothing against vodka martini, but srsly does no one use gin anymore? imo since it has a much more complex flavor than vodka the vermouth goes with it better, dont need to make it as dry as with vodka. If you've never tried it try not to be put off by the 1st time, I dont think anyone likes gin at first, I sure as hell didnt lol but it grew on me pretty fast.
J&B on the rocks or neat at the bar.
I can be convinced to drink American Whiskey but I usually stick with Bushmill's or Jameson for straight Whiskey.
Protip: When drinking single malt/rye/certain high end American Whiskies, you can add a few (1-3 drops) of water and it will seriously enhance the flavor.
Best new "chick" drink: Three Olive Cherry Vodka and Sprite/7up
No joke. Try it out, ratio is 2:1 or 5:3 if your feeling frisky.
Best Whiskey - Whoever busted out the Laphroaig before wins this thread.
ADDED: I agree with the guy above me. Gin is for martini's. Not vodka. Like martini's? Try a dirty Gibson. (Martini with cocktail onion and touch of onion juice)
They make onion juice?

Cool I just got promoted on BG forums from Puppetmaster to Dragoon.
Amen to that. I like my martinis with Tanqueray no 10 and a good dry vermouth (Noilly Prat if I can find it around here). I use a 4 to one ratio for mine, and a drop or two of orange bitters. Stirred never shaken, and a lemon twist for the garnish.Originally Posted by deivi
This is one of the more classic recipes, even the orange bitters which is a little known ingredient that was in the originals, but faded out rather quickly due to it being hard to find.
Also I think to make more people like this drink it is important to NOT skimp on the vermouth. So many people in America have this fear of vermouth, and don't realize that it is the vermouth that helps compliment the drink and balance it. If you really don't like vermouth, don't ask for a martini, just order a glass of cold gin. There is nothing wrong with that, it's just not a martini. At my parties if anyone evcer asks for a "Dry gin martini" I usually just put my usual amount of vermouth in and don't tell them. Nine times out of ten they say "wow this is one of the best I have ever had. What's your secret?!" and they get rather shocked when I tell them vermouth.
Too many people these days only follow the trends, and right now it is very trendy to order an extra dry martini even though most people don't know why the hell they are ordering it or have never even had a non dry one in the first place.
Tanqueray is good, (prolly gonna get flammed here) but I like Bombay Sphire more, and you cant go wrong with Beefeater
Why would you get flamed? They are all good gins. It just depends on your tastes. My stock bottle is generally always beefeater. Bombay Saphire is good, but I would not recommend it to a novice gin drinker. I still haven't aquired that much of a taste for it but that is just personal preferences. It has a bit too much of some kinda taste for me. I would normally say "Junipery" but honestly, I really don't know.Originally Posted by deivi
<3 Beefeater, very good Gin :D GDI guys, now I wanna go to the bar after work wanted to go home and play some gamesno liquor at the house right now
I took a small travel spray bottle and filled it with the vermouth.
Take the Martini glass and spray into the glass creating a nice even coat of vermouth around the glass
Fill with ice ass cold gin (my preference is always the tanqurey)
Found this makes for a very tasty martini.
Holy shit I just made a fantastic drink. I shall share the recipe.
First you need to make some ginger syrup. Get a half a pound of ginger root, slice thin, leaving the skin on. And put 3.5 cups of water to a boil. Add ginger, reduce liquid by half, strain well, add 1 cup sugar, and bottle. It stores for like a month.
Now for the drink
This is a varient of Audrey Saunder's "Gin-Gin Mule" and I give her full credit for the inspiration
1 ounce ginger syrup
1/4 ounce simple syrup (disolve 1 part sugar in one part water)
3/4 ounce fresh lime
1 1/2 ounce gin
6-8 mint leaves
Muddle the mint leaves together with the lime juice in the bottom of a shaker glass. Add the remaining ingredients and shake hard with ice for 10-15 seconds. Until the glass frosts. Strain into a highball glass filled to the brim with ice and enjoy.
This drink is freaking fantastic. It's kinda like a mojito, but somehow completely different. And it has a lovely finish with a nice kick of the ginger...
