PSP vs. DS for rpg's & srpg's maybe fighting games too

Going to be getting one of these, basically just for RPG's and maybe fighting games. Something that i can pick up and play, then hit quick save or something like that if i need to go off and do something real quick. ATM im leaning toward PSP for disgea and harvest moon... etc...

well I think PSP has more RPG's(last month they added like 8 new ones), while DS has more quality games. Also FFT is coming out for PSP in early October.

But if your looking to buy a new system, id recomend a DS over a PSP.

    DS:
    Pokemon
    Advance Wars
    Zelda(October)
    Limuios Arc

    PSP:
    Tales of Eternia
    Brave Story
    Riviera
    Tales of the world
    MGS Portable Ops
    FFT(October)

    Ummm

Tales of the world is shit, Riviera is meh, so don't consider them.

I personally wouldn't call DS games "higher quality"... It has some decent games, but most of them are pretty dull. It doesn't really have any "full RPGs", just pretty decent stuff that only lasts like 10-20hours for the most part, which is kinda sad cause some games are really unique and fun. (Like Lost Magic, really unique game, you learn magic runes, and you draw and mix them to cast different spells)

    imo:

    PSP has:
    - PSX Emulation (this alone makes the PSP a powerful RPG machine)
    - SNES Emulation (much better than the DS's)
    - Genesis Emulation (yay sonic, lol. Does DS even have this?)
    - NES Emulation (DS probably has this, and they're probably about equal I'd guess, but idk exactly cause idc for nes)
    - N64 Emulation (in early stages, super mario 64, SSB, and mario kart are playable I believe, with sound disabled. New version coming out soon supposed to be faster, still a work in progress so it can only get better )
    - GBA Emulation (Sadly, the PSP's GBA emulation is a lot better than the DS's, lol. The DS isn't really emulating it though, it's just playing it as is. PSP's GBA emulation lets you rearrange the keys (can set start as triangle, instead of the annoying-to-hit start button, etc) and has save states, and turbo mode)
    - Lots of Homebrew apps
    - PSP Games

    DS has:
    - DS Games
    - Some homebrew
    - SNES&NES Emulation (not too sure how good it is, I only ever tried running Chrono Trigger and it sucked, there may be newer emulators)

So.. yeah, the PSP is a lot more versatile than the DS. All the DS really has going for it are regular DS games.

The DS isn't bad, I own one and I like mine, but I love and use my PSP so much more. Personally I'd go for both eventually D:

I like the chat function on the ds, it was the method of communication when cell phones were banned in my school for the last like 2 months >_> (at least during class)

but I prefer the PSP overall

hmm yeah, I had that in my post somewhere, but I think it was in the part that I deleted =x

For the PSP to be worth anything at all, you're gonna have to go into the homebrew scene.

Oh, you might also want to wait for the PSP Slim to come out. There's a pretty good chance that Pandora's Battery might work for downgrading it/upgrading to a custom firmware, and if that's true, well, waiting will have been worth it <.<

PSP will have pretty good RPGs eventually, namely Star Oceans and Disgaea/FF Tactics.

Your missing the best PSP RPG, Valkyrie Profile which destroys anything DS has. I personally prefer PSP as it has more of the ones "I" I enjoy. I personally consider the PSP RPGs to be of equal quality as DS.

Fighting game-wise, I think the PSP wins. Even though Bleach DS & JUS are frickin' awesome games, the PSP just has more variety.

    DS Fighters-
    Bleach DS 2nd
    Dragon Ball Z: BlahBlah
    Jump! Ultimate Stars
    Naruto: Shinobi Retsuden

    PSP Fighters-
    Bleach: Heat the Soul 4
    Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower
    Dissidia: Final Fantasy
    Dragon Ball Z: BlahBlah
    Naruto: Narutimate Portable
    Power Stone Collection
    Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX
    Tekken: Dark Resurrection

whoa! alpha 3 is on PSP?! that might alone tip the scales. btw, i played Rivearia on GBA and it was pretty good.

Oh and i have no idea how to emulate or any other home brew stuff. Websites would be helpful, although i guess i could google "homebrew" lol. My decision also has to be based on current game selection as is i will be getting it in the next week or so, can't wait to long to buy. Its for a "trip" i have coming up.

If you only have one option, and assuming you know how to google, have some patience and have half a brain (for homebrew)... I'd go with the PSP. It has incredible potential, and the games for it aren't half bad, nvm the emulation. Just my $.02

But he already listed both PSX and SNES emulation, which therefore includes VP1 and SO1/2. (VP PSP version is slightly different in both good ways and bad, but it's the same exact game otherwise).

PSX and SNES emulation refers to homebrew emulation. I don't group re-releases as emulation..

I just meant that it would have been listing the same game twice. It's true that it's a lot easier to buy the ported version than to get an emulator working on your psp (and even easier and cheaper to put an emulator on your pc, but that's a different issue).
