PC crashing because of ram

Ok I have an 832GM and I added a K-Byte 512MB PC3200 DDR DIMM Memory. Best Buy online said it was compatible with my system but my PC crashed while I had it in. So I took it out and no problems so far. So what exactly is the problem here.

could be a bad stick of ram.
Try booting the system with ONLY that stick of ram. If it doesn't, it's bad.

That or try a different slot on your mobo if you have it available. You should be using a slot thats directly next to the one you already had installed. Anyway, sounds like you got a bad stick or the compatibility was wrong.

well when i put the ram in it shows up on my PC but after a few minutes the PC crashes and im sure its compatible because bestbuy said so unless they lied to me

best buy doesnt know jack shit about computer hardware fyi, as long as they can make a sale they'll sell you whatever, they'd sell you a SATA drive for your 486 if you wanted one
