    Re: Metroid Prime 3

Ok, played the game for about three hours so far.

Graphically, it looks pretty good. Its not 360 quality at all, but its definitely above the Gamecube. The environments are all very detailed, and so far have been fairly varied. I never played Metroid Prime 2, but from what I remember from the first game, this one is really different as far as story goes. Full voice acting (minus a mute Samus), planet hoping, etc. Theres still plenty of backtracking, and I've already seen a ton of areas I can't reach yet while playing.

The controls are probably the biggest (obviously) change. They kinda had me struggling for a while, little learning curve, but now I'm really enjoying them. Its similar to Resident Evil 4 Wii, except the analog stick on the nunchuck only controls forward, back and strafing, while turning/aiming is controlled with the wii-mote. You can also lock onto mobs, but this was kinda disorienting for me at first, because all it does is lock the camera, not the crosshair, so I would be strafing around an enemy and be firing into the corner of the screen by mistake. 3hours in, I've got a firm grip on the controls, and I'm loving the game. Its adventuring at its finest.

I think I read in the reviews its like 20-22 hours. But who knows if thats just beating the core game or exploring every square inch.

Even if it is with quests that's pretty long for a shooter..

I'm really loving the crossing-paths with specific NPCs (not providing spoilers), game feels more alive when it isn't just you vs. the world, albeit the narrative seemed to have come at a cost of a bit of linearity from my first couple hours of play, but I'm assuming once you're further in and got the main intro of the plot out of the way you'll be able to go about your duties freely.

Loving it regardless, controls are very nice, just wish I could tweak the advance controls a bit to make Samus turn faster when the pointer is at the extremes of the screen.

I just beat the first area(the space station), I've got to go meet a friend somewhere. But I wanted to say before I go, it's really cool so far. I imagine what Xavier said is true, at first the controls are very hard, I had a hard time keeping myself looking straight, but by the end of the level I was strafing around enemies w/o a problum.

Yeah, you can basically start doing it immediately. Its kind of like achievements on the 360, you do special things in the game and get coins for it. Most of the stuff involves using your scan visor on terminals, monsters, etc, although you get them from beating bosses too. The coins get used to unlock extras, artwork, sound, etc.

I think I have 2 friend coins atm, but I'd have to check to be sure.

So what happens when we trade them, and is there like a buddy list inside MP3 where I can add you?

I think it runs straight off the Wii system friend code, haven't seen anything for a MP3 specific code.

I added you to my Wii list, I'll be on the game in a bit but I don't think the other person has to be online to trade.

Yeah, does appear to be the Wii's system friend-list, which imo, is how all WiFI-enabled Wii titles should be.
(none of that 'per-title' friend-code shit like the DS and current online Wii titles afaik)

Anyways, on the third planet now, seems I finally get to explore at my own leisure, which beats the crap out of the rushing earlier on due to the urgency of my mission......but I got to ask, is anything else feeling nauseated after a couple hours? Either I ain't feeling 100%, or the near constant moving of the screen bugs my brain for some reason.
(even if you keep the reticled as centered as you can in a relaxed position, the screen is still subtley moving in the direction of the cursor off-from-center)

Using the singular Wii system friend code is so much better than an individual code per game, similar to how I think every DS should be using a DS-code, and not code by game.

You'd still have to go to the trouble of finding a motherfking 16 digit code to play with your friend, so "child predators" are deterred, but at least not for every single game. And I kinda felt dizzy for a bit, but it wore off as I got used to the game.

    Re: Metroid Prime 3

played it for about an hour or so, got past the first station and god the PED Suit And i'm about to head out now after that. Didn't get much time to play it tonight once i got home from work but i'll get some good time in the morning before I go back in.

Controls are pretty awesome so far, but it'll take some getting used to, sometimes when i want the screen to hold still while i'm strafing and jumping around i want the screen to hold still when i aim at stuff but it moves as the aim icon moves. It's not a negative thing at all, it'll just take some getting used to.

Also I like how real the aiming is, the detail of the enemies is so fine you really gotta aim to hit them, i was firing at some space pirates and it was like going under their arm or right past their ear, really gotta aim and hit them which is cool. I wonder if there is +dmg for headshots or body shots vs. limb shots.

    Re: Metroid Prime 3

Only gotten past the first tutorial part so far, up to where you get Hypermode. So far, only two complaints:

-Standard mode turns too slow, and Advance turns way too fast and easily. Guess I'll have to get used to it.

-Locking on. I try to lock on a lot when I'm fighting, but often I'll push down Z, and I'll just lock on to nothing. Even when there's a pirate right in front of me. This gave me tons of frustration on the first boss.

Same. I've started to just not bother locking on at all, and relying on raw aim with the wii-mote. Since all locking on does is center your view around the enemy, but not the crosshair, its not really necessary if your aim is good enough anyway.

    Re: Metroid Prime 3

Just finished the Space Station and oh man is this game awesome.

This just feels like the type of game Wii has been made for. I love games where you aim your shots with the remote, first RE4, now this.

One quick question about missiles. It says you can lock on and fire homing missiles, but I do not see how this is the case yet. When fighting the first boss at the end of the Space Station I was trying to aim missiles at his shoulders and then his head after I knocked his helmet off and I could not seem to do it.

I know locking on (with advanced controls) only locks your view, but is there some other method of locking on with the missiles that anyone has found?
