Not going to use small font for this, because its not really a spoiler.

I read that the reason Retro decided to streamline the weapons, ie, Ice Missiles, was because they didn't want to make the controls too cumbersome, because its hard to really use the 4 directions on the d-pad, A, B, -, +, 1, 2, C and Z during fast paced combat. I don't really think thats a good reason though, but it may be because I have somewhat large hands. I don't personally have a problem hitting anything but the 1 and 2 buttons effortlessly while playing, and I think they could've just used the full d-pad for beam changes.

But, streamlining the weapons works all the same, so no biggie to me.
I think it's more of a pain to use the down button for missiles rather than just being able to atp the top 3 buttons to change beams. I'm not far enough to see yet what the left, up and right are used for yet, hopefully new beams to switch to instead of only having the power beam. I'd like it more if instead of having to hit the down button to shoot every missile I could just hit it once to select missiles and use the b button to fire them and use the other one to switch back to power beam or whatever other beam.

I don't have an issue with the 1, 2 since they aren't for much important unless you really need to open your map in a hurry. Oh yeah, being able to flick the wii-mote up and jump in the morph ball is cool as hell.

I'm not very far in the game. (pretty sure you're farther along than I am) But I don't think the other directions are used for anything. There's no more beam-swapping in this game. When you pick up a new beam, it overlaps your old one like in older Metroid games.

I don't have a problem with 1 and 2 either since they aren't used for combat and instead just bring up the menu and a crappy hint system (example of hint system: complete your objectives listed in your notepad). I played the first 3 hours without knowing you could jump in the morph ball, lol. I was doing crazy shit w/ the bombs to get airtime, and then I randomly stood up really quick (irl) in the morph ball and saw Samus jump, lol.

Doing the ball jump by moving the remote is about as high as a normal bomb jump or maybe a little higher but it's hard to tell. Just finished off the last bounty hunter on the Space Pirate home world and although I knew you'd end up fighting all the 3 people they showcased before the game's release a part of me wanted to kill them so bad for no reason...

    SAMUS used Grapple Beam!
The Wild RUNDAS's Sp Def harshly fell!
    SAMUS used Hyper Beam!
    It's super effective!
    The Wild RUNDAS fainted!

Well I played through the first level and kept going a bit further a while ago, and I kind of get what the gamespot guys were saying about the controls being too easy... everything about it felt easy (even though it was fun)... took me a while to get used to dodging attacks, but overall I'm enjoying it greatly.

Normal mode is way too easy, about an hour in I restarted on Veteran, and the game has been much more enjoyable.

Yeah I've been playing in veteran mode only and the game hasn't felt too easy at all seeing that normal enemies can prove challenging/painful a lot of the time.

If I didnt like Metroid on gamecube, is there any hope I like this one? The gun swapping for every damn monsters, the lack of dodging ability (or cover) and the lack of place to fight (getting knocked back of you 2 feet large platform wasn't that fun) is what annoyed me the most.

There isn't any gun swapping in this game, the environments are mixed (open and closed quarters, in/out doors) and dodging is just lock-on and strafing left/right.

I never played MP2, but this game feels a lot more enjoyable than MP1 was to me.

There is cover and for general enemies there was cover in MP1, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. It's not explicit, but standing behind something that absorbs enemy fire is cover to me. Dodging isn't explicitly dodging... but rolling up into a ball and zooming around counts, right? Circle strafing counts, right? Side dashes count, right? No gun swapping necessary in MP3.

    Play it.

Still pretty early in, on the second world, and kinda disappointed by Hypermode. Its way too powerful. I was hoping I could get through the game while barely using it, trying to keep my "corruption" or whatever down, but that seems unlikely. Hypermode is just like 200x stronger than my current power beam, its insane. And when I ran into those Phazon Pirate dudes, using the power beam was like giving them a warm massage, while Hypermode killed them in about 5 seconds. Hopefully beam upgrades will help me get off my Hypermode dependancy...

    A) lolnormal

    B) Hypermode quite often will cost me an energy tank when I would have otherwise been able to have dodged attacks and taken 30 damage tops even though it would have taken longer. I am very surprised how balanced it is.

    Re: Metroid Prime 3

One thing i've noticed so far with this, and with MP2 actually, is that they learned from a lot of their mistakes in the design from MP1 through now. In MP1 there was all kinds of tricks you could do to bypass area's by being able to jump on some ledges that weren't really meant to be used that way and get around things and skip area's to get items faster but they really smoothed all the edges down so it's impossible to get anywhere other than where you're supposed to.

Not a bad thing, but it's fun trying to find little things to hop on and things to play around with.

I don't really use the hypermode unless I need to in order to proceed with the game, but it's nice to know it's there if i'm up against 3 or 4 guys and i just wanna blow them away fast.

There was "cover", but I can't think of many places where it was useful. You wouldnt be able to see/shoot monsters unless you were going far outside where you would be completly discovered. Not to mention the ton of hp you were sitting on, you could straigth tank everything. Strafing is fine, but if you can clear a whole room autolocking on every monster one by one, it's kinda boring.

You do have a ton of health, but when a barrage of shots takes down half of an energy tank (as is the case with hypermode monsters in veteran), you have to conserve it. Especially when you have 6 of em on your ass.

Just cleared the game, 97% collection rate and clocked in about 14 hours of play. I might try the game again in Hyper mode but I'm going to just take a while off and make sure I keep up with my class work for now.
