    Photoshop + New Videocard/Monitor = Strange Issues... Help.

    So I built a new computer. Running Windows XP Pro. The videocard is the Geforce 8600 GTS. My new monitor... is a 20" Apple Cinema Display. The thing doesn't come with Windows drivers, but so long as you have DVI it should work. Everything else seems fine (though there's no games on here yet to test out), resolution is good, colors are pretty, etc. But I discovered something... weird, in Photoshop today. Weird and extremely annoying.

    The layer set to "Normal", looks like this. It is a collection of high res textures that I've blended together. I have done this a lot before.

    When you set it to "Multiply" and reduce it's opacity... it starts to look like this. The lower the opacity, the more pronounced the lines become (the green/blue colors are correct, because that's the color of the layer underneath). Nothing exists in the image which should cause such a thing as these lines. It's kind of odd, but Multiply is the only layer blending mode that does this.

    On a friend's suggestion, I downloaded the latest drivers for the card, and the latest version of Direct X, but that didn't help... If anybody has any other suggestions, I would be extremely grateful. .-.;
    Thanks!

    I used to get that problem on my old computer, I attributed it to the ram/cpu. One of the two, the bigger the dimensions the more resources that program is going to use up. What is the rest of your computer and the size of the files you are working with?

    Edit: The reason I say this, is because if you notice, you can erase those lines. It's a rather weird event. lol

    Wow you're right, it... does erase. That's very odd. o_O; I guess at an absolute minimum level fix, I could erase 1% over the entire surface area.

    I'm working with rather ginormous files (12x8 inches @ 300 dpi for this one), but not any bigger than what I worked with on my old computer, and a small, screensize image has the same problems. Also, being able to make ginormous files was kind of the reason I bought a new computer!

    Hrm, that definately should handle it. lol

    Maybe try increasing the Image Cache for Photoshop (Edit -> Preferences -> Memory & Image Cache). If that doesn't work, try reinstalling the drivers if you havn't already, for your video card.

    I think increasing the image cache size would help. Also, set it off of your main hard drive (I vaguely remember that helping performance on my old Win 98 box)

    Driver updates/ Direct X updating might help as well

    Murr.

    CJ - Even with Image Cache set to use 80% of my available RAM (default is max 50%), it still doesn't help.

    Sigi - I'm running Windows/Photoshop from the smaller/faster hard drive, and I've split the slower 500GB drive in two, giving fully 172 GB of free range space for Photoshop to use as its scratch disk. Downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia, as well as the latest version of Directx, and neither has helped. :/

    I don't think it has anything to do with the hardware not being up to the task... this comp breezes through things I could still reasonably ask my old computer to do (at least 1/4 as powerful as this one), its just... fuxxoring up the translation somewhere.
