Anyone other than me picking this one up today?
Already have it? how is it? I enjoyed the demo.

Was thinking about it until every reviewer blasted the game to hell. Boring story that takes about 10 hours until the plot advances, gameplay that is nothing to write home about, and a music store that is subpar makes me say nothnx. I'll wait for Eternal Sonata.
Eternal Sonata isn't going to be any better heh..
I'm renting it, hopefully it'll be here tomorrow.
I played about 4 hours into the first disk. I have no interest in playing anymore. The gameplay and storyline were just boring and generic. Maybe I should have given it more of a shot, but whatever.
I would suggest renting it before you blow $60 on it. Actually I can't even suggest renting it.
I heard it started slow, but after that it picked up. Guess we will see.
7ish isn't too bad and it did get some pretty good reviews in the last few days from GI (9/10) and Gamepro (4.75/5). I picked it up but haven't played it save the intro.Originally Posted by Cephius

Not going to blow 60 bucks on it either way, and I doubt that it's not even rentable, it's still an okay title.
I played the demo, it's like a DBZ styled RPG and it just doesnt interest me. The character names, the design, it's just weird. Maybe if the game came out years and years ago it would fit in perfectly, but in the age of MMO's and since FF12... I don't think I can sit down and play through a game designed like it is, that looks like it was made for a 8yr old.
Hopefully Lost Odyssey will make a better impression than this one.
But anyways, they clearly stated that they WANTED this to look like a traditional jRPG, with the whole random encounters and turn based fight.
Clearly, they must think they still live in 1997 and they just finished working on FF8.
At least the trailer for Lost Odyssey looked awesome.
And of course there is still the megaton - Mass Effect :D
I honestly love Turned Based, I just replayed Legend Of Dragoon and FF9 actually.
I just cant stand the character names or design. The fighting system is different, which is cool usually, but in this case it's not. There is nothing about this game that makes it worth being on a next gen system, there is nothing special about the design or battle system, there is nothing about this game that couldn't have been done 10 years ago lol.
I agree the graphics are a turnoff, but you can't really base your decision on that.
Then again, I wasn't too impressed with the demo either, so I feel you.
I wasn't talking about graphics. When i used Next Gen system i meant it doesn't need such a powerful engine, there is nothing spectacular about the gameplay.Originally Posted by Exoduso

Now... i may be the only one here that feels this way, but... i just could never find a way to like Dragonball Z, and oddly some of Toriyama's characters resonate with me and some just don't. Chrono Trigger yes, DBZ no. Odd eh? I never did get it.
But even still, it wasn't that that really turned me off, and sadly i can't really pinpoint what did. I think that while the job system sounds fun, the "everyone has a big blue attacking ghosty dragon" thing was just too similar from one character to the next? Too lame of a reason for it not to appeal to me maybe?
I may rent it, as i WOULD like to give it some actual time to impress me. The Demo was short and you get abruptly tossed in so playing the actual release would hopefully give me a better impression. We will see.
Eternal Sonata, i liked a bit more, but likely also a rental/Gamefly.
Eternal Sonata seems like the perfect rental, I doubt i'd fork over the money for it though.
Any initial impressions on Blue Dragon yet? I want to buy it but since I recently got my own copy of JSRF I can avoid buying it on my 'one game at a time' rule.
Unless it's super-awesome.
The music on the demo drove me wild. I mean, it's not the worst thing ever, but it.... chips away at your soul.
Lyrics should never be in videogame music.
People seem way too harsh about this game. So the OP isn't alone, I just picked mine up earlier today; I'll get started on it probably tomorrow. I expect to have fun it, although I know it won't be anything monumental. I'm not expecting anything ground-breaking or never-before-seen in this game, but it'll still provide many gaming hours. I guess I'm much easier to please than everyone else here to please when it comes to games, but then again mine cost me all of $11.
I think expectations are high because this is going to be the first RPG I'm excited to buy for my 360.
Contrast that with the first RPGs you bought for your other consoles and you see how disappointment is an easy state to reach with Blue Dragon, considering the heavy hype it got in Japan.
