Not sure if you picked up an LCD yet.. but theres a Soyo 24" for $300 from Officemax. Doesn't support HDCP however.. but its supposedly a great panel. I'm still debating on buying one.. just cause there are a few other things I want to buy first.

should recieve this today so we'll see whats up in a bit :D
ghosting is less prevalent now that response times are high enough (<8ms) I don't actually get any ghosting at all on my 5ms response lcd.Originally Posted by Mifaco
dead pixels are less of an issue because lattice manufacturing is better on mainstream LCD's and most major brands have a 1 pixel policy now, so you can get them replaced fairly easily. (some even do in-store trade-in now)
limited resolutions are only an issue if you either a) use a really strange non-standard res. or b) like to change res. alot. if you're like most users, you don't do this (and games make it less necessary now than before) so it's not an issue if you buy an LCD that supports your preferred resolution.
that and there's no way most computer desks could support a 28"+ CRT.
well i have it now and its sitting on my desk, in fact im typing this message on it, it looks great, way better than my CRT, much crisper and clearer and its not some huge ass 50lb thing
my only gripe is that its at an angle and i cant seem to change that, but ill get used to it i suppose, otherwise im in love
EDIT: Deleted. Just noticed info already posted 2 posts up.Originally Posted by Mifaco
You can still pick up CRT's usually in most large PC stores, but usually in boxes under the shelves and not on display.
yeah like dell's site has NO CRTs at all, just LCDs but they have just so vastly improved that CRTs are going the way of the 56k modem and AGP video cards; they're out there, but no one really uses them
Samsung don't really do monitors of that size, so you probably got a TV which works great with PC's also. Only down side is, once it hits the TV description they generally remove (not always) the up/down angle change on the pedastal. Just nip into your local hardware store for some black/transparent protection feet which will help you tilt it up a couple of degree's.Originally Posted by Killgannon
if its a TV its missing all the TV plugs (svideo, composite, etc) lol
People still buy CRT monitors? I just let my friends upgrade their CRT to LCD and then instead of having them throw the CRT out, I take it!Originally Posted by Mifaco
sometimes you'll get a "TV" model that's the TV case + screen without the tv connectivity or the tuner.Originally Posted by Killgannon
my brother has one like that, it's pretty funny watching him play CS:S on a 32" display.
seriously, my next monitor is a 1080p 32inch sharp aquos lol.Originally Posted by Amele
Ok, I'm upgrading to a LCD monitor because of a severe lack of desk space in my dorm room. I have three questions:
1) What's the widescreen equivalent of 1024x768?
2) What are the monitor brands with "zero dead pixels" warranties?
3) What kind of a native resolution should I go for? I see 1440x900, 1600x1050, and I'm not sure if I can get a lower resolution without artifacts.
Unfortunately, quite a few: http://www.behardware.com/articles/6...xels-2007.html. Check the different pages, manufacturers are sorted in alphabetical order.Originally Posted by Mifaco
