And the amazing part of that stat I believe is every #2 team that's lost, they've lost to an unranked opponent. Basically, you don't want to play on ESPN if you're #2 and playing an unranked opponent.

Kansas or Arizona State? Kansas would be ranked quite a bit higher, but the Fiesta Bowl is in Arizona State's backyard, and it would set up an all Big 12 Kansas-Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl, which wouldn't necessarily be good for TV ratings. Hmmm. Guess I should worry about that after Arizona State beats Arizona, which is still close in the 4th quarter.

I think it will be Georgia vs. Ohio State unless the polls jump LSU over them. It still doesn't seem right that the team that was bad enough to not make the SEC Championship may make the National Championship game over the SEC Champion.

The last time something like that happened, Nebraska got crushed by Miami, but that Nebraska team was grossly overrated.

I agree about Georgia over LSU. Georgia's playing pretty damn good lately too, so hot. I'd rather see them slam it to OSU in the BCS Championship game. I too love the chaos like Brent, haha. You know though.. as soon as I say Georgia would hammer OSU, OSU is gonna roll em by 40 or something. THat's how crazy the season has been this year.

I've got a vested interest in ASU going to the BCS, as it would move Oregon State into the Holiday Bowl against (most likely) Texas. Hell of a game today between Oregon State and Oregon, as well, in case anyone caught it (because I know nobody cares). Looking forward to the Hawaii-Washington game starting in about 20 minutes too.

The final poll of the season doesn't really work like all the others. Voters have a tendency to adjust the polls in the way that will either benefit them (if they are a coach) or the way they think is appropriate (i.e. jumping LSU over Georgia since they won their conference). They wouldn't do it any other week of the year, but the last week of the season causes weird polls. You might also see Pac-10 and Big 12 coaches downgrading Hawaii to try and knock them out of the Top 12 so their second team is guaranteed a berth.

I watched the Oregon/Oregon State game myself. The backup backup backup QB for Oregon played pretty damn good. Oregon State playing Texas would be an interesting bowl for sure.

I hate how the final poll works every year. Coaches won't ever pick another team over their own if they don't have to which stinks. I honestly don't think that Hawaii will get bumped from the Top 12 (Assuming they win tonight, which I am in NO WAY assuming) and I think LSU might indeed jump Georgia and make it to the National Championship game. Have you ever heard of a team that was ranked #1, lost in a 3OT game, dropped out, then got ranked #1 again only to lose in ANOTHER 3OT game? I mean.. that's just how crazy the season has been. The fact that LSU has a really really good chance to go to the National Title game with two losses as the #1 team in 3OT that makes it bonkers. I still want to see UGA go.

I hear ya - I was praying for the outside chance of Illinois getting into the Rose Bowl vs. USC so Wisconsin could go to the Capitol One Bowl again, but it looks like they just accepted an invite to the Outback Bowl (probably vs. Tennesee).

Everything I've heard has put Illinois in the Rose if Ohio State goes to the NCG. Would that put Michigan into the Capitol One Bowl then?

Well, Arizona State won and Oklahoma have won. And the last game of the season has started.

EDIT: And Washington is already ahead 14-0 on Hawaii. I guess it would only make sense for the season to end with another huge upset... And as much as I hate rooting for the Huskies, it would put both ASU and Kansas in the BCS....

I think all these losses will increase the pressure to put a non Big-10 team in the Rose Bowl - Georgia or someone. But yeah if Illinois goes to Rose, Michigan will probably go to Capitol One.

holy shit I can't believe today. Yeah yeah yeah Georgia didn't win their conference but so what? Its the SEC and we lost the tiebreaker. Thats pretty damn good to start with. LSU is all banged up and hasn't destroyed people like we have (Auburn, Florida, etc). They wouldn't have even won the SEC championship if it wasn't for the LSU MVP of the game Eric Ainge having a shitty game and throwing a pick six and going three and out so many times. If you want to have a national championship with the best teams at this moment then its UGA all the way.

Currently the bowls are:
NCG: Ohio St vs. #2 (probably an SEC team)
Rose: USC vs. at-large
Sugar: SEC team vs. at-large
Orange: Virginia Tech vs. at-large
Fiesta: Oklahoma vs. at-large

The automatic qualifiers for at large berths are: West Virginia, Hawaii
The (obvious) at large candidates: Illinois, Arizona State, Kansas, Missouri

The picking order for non-assigned berths (4 at-large & Big East champ) goes like this in 2007:

1. Bowl that lost the #1 team to the NCG (if applicable)
2. Bowl that lost the #2 team to the NCG (if applicable)
3. Orange Bowl
4. Fiesta Bowl
5. Sugar Bowl

Assuming Ohio State is #1, the Rose Bowl gets first pick (probably at-large Illinois). If Georgia ends up #2, nobody gets the second pick. If LSU ends up #2, the Sugar Bowl will take Georgia. The Orange Bowl gets the third pick to match against ACC champ VaTech, which would have been Georgia or LSU were they available. But Georgia is claimed by the NCG and the Sugar Bowl gets LSU due to its status as SEC champ. That puts the Orange Bowl in the position of choosing West Virginia, Kansas, Arizona State, or Hawaii. I don't think they can take LSU (or Georgia); they probably take West Virginia for regional reasons. That leaves the Fiesta Bowl taking ASU or Kansas, and Hawaii ends up in the Sugar Bowl against LSU.

All that being said, Hawaii is behind 21-0 in the second quarter. Should they lose, that makes it all so much simpler.
