    Yuki vs. Gekko

    Last night, I hit 65 SAM, and eventually got access to Tachi: Gekko. Everything I've read says that Yukikaze, Gekko and Kasha have the same modifiers, and pretty much generate the same damage, and that the difference between the three are: 1) Skillchain properties, 2) Additional effect, and 3) animation.

    Working under that presumption, I don't understand why my Tachi: Gekkos were suddenly doing 7-900 damage, whereas my Yuki's had been doing 4-600. I hit 65 in a party with 4SAM/WARs for melee, and it was pretty much just Yukikaze spam the entire time, and with the exception of a few oddities (300TP, or possibly DAs) their Yukikazes were generally in that mid300-mid600 range in terms of damage. In the hour of using Gekko for the first time, I never saw it drop below 700 damage, and even hit one for 1200+. How do people generally go about testing what the modifiers for WS are, and what the fTP modifier is? I'd like to play with this to see if maybe SE changed them to be different from each other, but I'm not sure what the accepted method for testing is.

    Some pertinent info on the fights: Colibri at the tower camp in Bhaflau. Weapon: Zanbato, WS gear: Sipahi Turban, Spike Necklace, 2x Spike Earring, Hauby, Enky Bracelets, Rajas, Sun Ring, Amemet Mantle, Vanguard Belt, Myochin Haidate, Windy Kyahan.

    From what I've read, there has always been a difference in power, with Yuki being the weakest and Kasha being the strongest. There seems to be some kind of attack modifier that is also used when calculating WS damage. It's found in some WSs and physical BLU spells. I don't think anyones really nailed it down yet, but the proof is in the pudding.

    You might want to upgrade a few pieces of your WS gear first before comparing the last three weapon skills samurai has to offer.

    Has anyone checked yet to see if maybe they changed them to have different fTP values?

    Edit: Question's kind of vague. I mean different values from each other, as in having them actually be different WSes now.

    That's pretty much what I want to check, but I'm not familiar with the testing method. I know that people refer to going and killing level 1 creatures, but what details do you look for? Naked except for a weapon, use WS at 100tp 10 times, see what the damage is. Repeat at 200tp, and then at 300tp? What math is involved in arriving at what the fTP value is, as well as the attribute modifier?

    I do plan to upgrade my gear. The point I'm making is that with no change to gear used, just by using a different WS, the damage jumped considerably. If the two weaponskills are supposed to be the same, why does that happen?

    They have the same fTP. Just fire the WS sneak attacked at a level 1 mob with the exact same TP value for both of them. If they come out to be the same, they have the same fTP.

    I actualli had a theory on why this was true. I never got to test it out in practice, so it's nothing more than a thought. Pre-patch I believed Catastrophe didn't cap out on too weak, but after a large enough data set, I noticed it actualli had. (The few times it did land on the cap, the math worked perfectly fTP/Mod wise.) While Catastrophe's range of values didn't change, it's distribution, and consequently average had changed signifigantly. It averaged around 1.9 pdif, and crit average was hitting around 2.9 (not the 3.0 cap.) If Gekko (for example) had a 2.3 pdif average and Kasha had a 2.0 pdif average. They would both have a crit average at 3.0 and it would be impossible to see a difference in SA+WS tests on Lv1 Bunnies. The difference would show up in WS average over a period of time on something where the 3.0 pdif cap isn't being hit (which is often in practice.)

    That being said, I have no data on Gekko/Kasha. My aim was just to figure out my own WS.

    They are the same, just have different elements. Whichever you choose to use is up to you, just Gekko looks cool. I use Kasha soly because I have the gorget for it and havent had time to farm up the one for Gekko or Yuki.

    They all do the same damage. Except for Wyrms. They don't like flowers.
